Leeds Amazon driver shouted for help while clinging onto van
An Amazon delivery driver shouted for help as he was clinging onto his stolen van moments before his death, a witness has told a court.Claudiu-Carol Kondor, 42, died when Mark Ross drove the vehicle into a parked car in Leeds, on 20 August last year, Leeds Crown Court heard.Ross, 32, has admitted manslaughter but denies murdering Mr Kondor, who was originally from Romania but lived in Sheffield.During the hearing on Thursday, witness Tracy Higson said she had been driving home from a shop when she saw the van come "flying out of a side street", with parcels tumbling out of the open passenger door.
The jury previously heard how the van had been stolen at around 18:45 BST and Mr Kondor, who tried to stop the theft, grabbed hold of the van through the near-side passenger door.Mr Kondor was then dragged along as the van was driven at around 60mph, twice the road's 30mph limit, the court heard.Even after it collided with a parked black car, Mr Kondor managed to cling on.It was when the van crashed into a parked blue Mini on Heights Drive, around 0.3 miles (0.5km) from where it was stolen, that Mr Kondor was fatally injured.
Ms Higson described how the van was being driven "erratically" and she had to swerve her car in order to avoid a collision."The passenger door was wide open, the Amazon driver was hanging off the side of the door," she said."The gentleman that died, I heard him shout 'help' as he was still hanging onto the inside of the door."When asked what she saw inside the van, she said parcels which "all came flying onto the road as it came round the corner"."I picked them up and put them in my car," she said."There were people over the road, running towards them. To me it looked like drug addicts, that's why I picked them up, put them in my car and rang 999."The witness was asked if she recalled seeing speed bumps in the road, but she said she could not remember.
'He whizzed past me'
Another witness told the court she saw the van as she was walking down the road, driving "zigzaggy". "It was going at some speed," Lynn Spencer said."I couldn't tell you how fast because I don't drive, but it whizzed past me and there was a gentleman hanging onto the side."She said she remembered exclaiming "oh my god", adding: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing."The jury heard Ross, of Conference Road, Armley, denies murder, saying he did not know Mr Kondor was hanging out of the van, and thus did not intend to kill him.The trial continues.

A search of the flat resulted in the discovery of 29kg of cannabis, 197 grip seal bags of cocaine, weighing 58.5g, and £37,500 in cash. Prosecutor Byron Broadstock said the cannabis was worth £79,160 and the cocaine was worth £10,740. Cenaj, of Mill Street, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class B drugs and being concerned in the supply of class B drugs. Ergys Nika and Jetmir Nika, both of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, and possession of criminal property. All three defendants were said to be Albanian nationals and were of previous good character. In mitigation for Cenaj, defence barrister Benjamin Waidhofer said the defendant has spent 137 days on curfew while on remand, and was in a "different position" to his co-defendants. Hashim Salmman, for Ergys Nika, said his client wished to return to Albania to see his family upon his release from prison. Heath Edwards, for Jetmir Nika, said his client wanted to turn away from a criminal lifestyle and has "potential and opportunity" in the future. Two men jailed for theft of £4.75m gold toilet from Blenheim Palace
Two men have been jailed for the theft of a £4.75 million gold toilet from Blenheim Palace. The fully-functioning 18-carat gold toilet, which had been installed as an artwork at the Oxfordshire country house where Sir Winston Churchill was born, was stolen in a raid in the early hours of September 14 2019. Michael Jones, 39, from Oxford, has been jailed for 27 months. James Sheen, 40, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, has received a four-year prison sentence. Sheen is also serving a 19-year sentence for a string of thefts, including £400,000 worth of tractors and high-value trophies from the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket. The pair were part of the gang who planned and carried out the burglary of the Oxfordshire stately home. The fully functioning toilet was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and was a star attraction in an exhibition at Blenheim Palace, the house where Sir Winston Churchill was born. The heist took place hours after a glamorous launch party, and the distinctive toilet was split up or melted down and sold on soon after it was stolen and has never been recovered. The toilet was stolen during a five-minute period by sledgehammer-wielding thieves who smashed their way in, Oxford Crown Court heard. They drove through locked wooden gates into the grounds of the palace in two stolen vehicles before breaking in through a window. Entitled America, the toilet weighed approximately 98 kilogrammes, was insured for six million US dollars (£4.75 million) and was made from gold, which was itself worth about £2.8 million. Passing sentence, Judge Ian Pringle KC said: 'This bold and brazen heist took no more than five-and-a-half minutes to complete. "America has never been seen again."
