No movement observed at Attari-Wagah border after exit orders for Pakistani nationals
Amritsar: None of the persons, either from India or Pakistan, crossed the Attari or Wagah land border on Saturday, after India issued exit orders for the Pakistani nationals following the
Pahalgam terror attack
.
Earlier in the day, there was a rumour that a few Pakistani nationals had arrived at Attari. However, the immigration officials confirmed that no one had left or arrived in India via the Attari land border on Saturday.
According to the data provided by reliable sources, a total of 2,794 persons crossed the international border – 953 Indian nationals who returned from Pakistan and 1,841 Pakistani nationals who crossed back into Pakistan – between April 24 and May 2. The immigration officials, however, have not officially confirmed these numbers.
Meanwhile, Maqbool Chaudhary, a social activist from Qadian in Gurdaspur district, who is married to a Pakistani woman, said the Pakistani nationals living in India on long term visas had been receiving calls from the police as well as from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) asking them to apply for Indian citizenship if they were yet to do so and upload their certificates on the FRRO portal.

Notably, the Union ministry of home affairs on April 28 issued an order regarding the LTV policy for Pakistani nationals and directed that the long term visa holders had been exempted from revocation of their visas. The govt, however, has decided that all such Pakistani nationals holding the LTV and who had not obtained Indian citizenship were required to apply afresh on the FRRO portal with their documents, including a copy of the LTV certificate, photograph, address, profession, religion details, etc.
Maqbool informed that the application form for reapplying for the LTV would be available on the portal from May 10 and the link would remain open until July 10, adding that the instructions stated that the LTV of any Pakistani national who failed to reapply in the said period should be cancelled.
Sources did not rule out the possibility of many Pakistani nationals living on short term visas still living in hiding in India.

"The skills of our engineers to build Chenab and Anji bridges, and the hard work of our workers who carved through the mountains have eliminated the gaps that existed between the 'crown jewel of India' and the rest of the country," Sinha said. He said the prime minister has changed the Union Territory (UT) of J-K in the last six years. "Its holistic development is the top priority for the prime minister and his various policies, speedy implementation and industrialisation have brought the Union Territory to the focal point of growth. Sinha said since April 2022, Modi has dedicated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 1.15 lakh crore to the people of J-K. He also expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for ensuring firm and decisive action against terrorism and its ecosystem. "Operation Sindoor avenged the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam and has drawn a new red line. On one hand, the unmatched power of our armed forces is ready to protect the integrity of the nation and on the other, creative power is dedicated to a developed India," the LG said.
