Talent show raises money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Students at Evergreen Park Community High School raised nearly $1,000 for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society through the 12th annual National Honor Society Talent Show.
Thirteen student acts performed in the show, including rappers, a Mexican folkloric ballet, singers, the high school's Unaccompanied Minors a cappella group and members of the Rock Band class
Members of the NHS voted to give money to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society because one of its members' sisters is being treated for lymphoma. The talent show donation will be made in her name.
Money was raised through sales of the $5 tickets and baked goods made by students in the Culinary Arts Club. Amy Kazin and Ken Kazin helped with the show's production.
Trout season starts begins at Cook County lakes
Anglers can start fishing for trout at sunrise April 5 in the Forest Preserves of Cook County, including at Axehead Lake and Belleau Lake in Park Ridge, Sag Quarry East in Lemont, Horsetail Lake in Palos Park and Green Lake in Calumet City.
The district has stocked more than 5,000 pounds of catchable-sized rainbow trout at the fishing lakes. During the season, there is a five trout per day creel limit with no size restrictions. Those fishing may not use more than two lines and no more than two hooks per line.
Anglers 16 and older must have a valid Illinois sport fishing license with an inland trout stamp. The license is not required for Illinois residents who have a disability and a State of Illinois disabled ID card showing a Class 2 or 2A disability; have a Veterans Disability Card; or are residents on active military duty who are home on leave.

Pulitzer Prize-winning authors speaks at Leo HS
Jonathan Eig, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recently spoke to students and others in a packed auditorium at Leo High School in Chicago, which purchased the youth version of his latest book, 'King: A Life,' published in January.
Thanks to sponsors, including Leo alums, enough books were made available that the entire student body and next year's freshman class of about 100 students could have a copy.
Eig shared that it took him six years to write the book, a biography of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. He was introduced by students who read passages they selected.
'Dr. King died in 1968, so he's just a figure in the history books to our Leo students and most of our staff,' Leo President Dan McGrath said via a news release. 'But in the book and in his presentation, Jonathan Eig did a wonderful job of bringing Dr. King into the room, bringing him to life in a way that underscored why his work was so important then and remains important now.'

Gavin Newsom Meets Privately With Trump Ambassador Jon Voight in LA
Gov. Gavin Newsom and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump's three Hollywood ambassadors, met in Century City on Thursday to discuss the actor's 'Make Hollywood Great Again' proposal. A Newsom aide and a representative for Voight confirmed the meeting to Politico. 'They shared a commitment to working together to help to build up the film industry in the U.S. — particularly California and Los Angeles,' the outlet reported. Former Warner Bros. executive DeeDee Myers, who is director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, was also present. The meeting came as California's $750 million film tax credit plan remains in the air as state budget cuts have weighed down the process. The pair of California Film & TV Jobs Act bills passed their first floor votes in Sacramento this week, though it's unclear if Trump's tariffs and/or Los Angeles wildfire recovery efforts could impact the outcome. If successful, the bills would expand the types of productions that are eligible for tax incentives, offer a 35% tax rate to L.A.-based productions and increase the program's cap from $330 million to $750 million. Newsom also previously suggested a $7.5 billion film and TV national tax incentive program last month. 'The governor is fully committed to this proposed $750 million investment in California's film and television industry, which will protect good-paying jobs and support the workers who power the state's creative economy,' a spokesperson for Newsom said in a statement. The Oscar-winning actor's May proposal includes a carrot-and-stick approach, mixing tax incentives, foreign film tariffs and co-production treaties to encourage U.S. movie production. Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone are Trump's other two Hollywood ambassadors. TheWrap has reached out to Newsom and Voight's teams for further comment. Michelle Obama shares her honest thoughts on Malia dropping last name
Former first lady Michelle Obama has opened up on her honest reaction to her eldest daughter, Malia, deciding to drop her last name. Now going by Malia Ann, the former first daughter has adopted her middle name for her professional pursuits in Hollywood. The new moniker appears in the credits of 'The Heart,' the short film she wrote and directed. The 18-minute drama was screened at the Sundance Film Festival last year and had previously won the award for Best Live Action Short at the Chicago International Film Fest. During an appearance on the latest episode of the 'Sibling Revelry' podcast, Michelle finally broke her silence on Malia's decision to ditch the Obama family name after leaving the White House in 2017. 'Our daughters (Malia and Sasha) are 25 and 23,' Michelle told co-hosts Kate and Oliver Hudson. 'They are young adult women, but they definitely went through a period in their teen years where it was the push away. … They're still doing that.' Michelle remarked that the co-hosts likely understand exactly what it's like to be the children of people who are famous. The Hudsons' parents are actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson, though both were primarily raised by Hawn and her longtime partner, Kurt Russell. 'It is very important for my kids to feel like they've earned what they are getting in the world, and they don't want people to assume that they don't work hard, that they're just naturally handed things,' she said of the potential for her daughteres to be labeled as nepo babies. 'They're very sensitive to that — they want to be their own people.' The 61-year-old said she warned Malia that a name likely wouldn't matter much, given that she's still the widely recognized daughter of a former president. It didn't change her mind, but Michelle respects that she's 'trying to make her way.' Malia jumped headfirst in the entertainment industry after graduating from Harvard in 2021. She directed a Nike commercial that debuted earlier this year, and is credited as a writer on the NAACP Image Award-winning Amazon Prime series 'Swarm.'

Diddy Trial: Forensic Video Expert and Cassie Ventura's Best Friend Bolster and Hinder Prosecution's Case
A forensic audio and video editor and a longtime close friend of Cassie Ventura, the ex-partner of Sean 'Diddy' Combs and his alleged longtime victim, who is central to federal prosecutor's case against the fallen rap world superstar, testified in court Wednesday. The former testified that he reviewed cell phone video, surveillance footage and 'sex videos' while working for the feds on the case, and the latter spoke about the moment she said she was dangled from a balcony by an enraged Combs. Combs has pleaded not guilty and vehemently denied wrongdoing as he faces a five-count indictment that includes sex trafficking and racketeering. More from The Hollywood Reporter Zurich Festival Lifetime Achievement Honor for Oscar-Winning Composer Hildur Gudnadóttir Billy Joel Doc Makers Lament Ailing Subject Couldn't Make Tribeca Opening Night but Insist "He's Going to Be Fine" 'Lee Soo Man: King of K-Pop' Director and Subject Talk New Prime Video Documentary Frank Piazza is an expert witness who testified that he was unaware of the Combs sex trafficking and racketeering case; he said that he reviewed cellphone video, surveillance footage from the infamous attack by Diddy on Ventura at the Intercontinental Hotel in L.A. and 'sex videos.' The possible modification of the tape, a notion floated by the defense ahead of the trial, was refuted by Piazza, who assured the court that the footage was not manually altered, saying that he'd slowed the footage to real time because a technical file converting video process inadvertently sped up. At the request of the government (at a rate of $295/hour), Piazza compiled video clips of the footage to 'track the movement of individuals inside the events'; signs of tampering were not present and the video, which was again shown to the jury for the eighth time since the trial began, were reliable depictions of what occurred in December 2016 in that hotel hallway. He also analyzed 10 'sex videos' recorded between 2012 and 2014 pulled from the 'Frank Black' user profile — a Combs pseudonym — and the laptop Ventura submitted to investigators. During cross-examination, Piazza told the court that the time stamps are not inaccurate, but that motion-activated cameras only update time stamps with distinct movement, saying that motion triggers a time stamp change in this camera system. Heading into the afternoon, the jury heard testimony from Bryana Bongolan, whose alleged ordeal was briefly discussed earlier in the trial. She testified about a fight with Combs in 2016 when the powerful mogul 'held her over a 17-story balcony.' Bongolan said Combs 'threw (her) onto the balcony furniture,' and she sustained injuries. Bongolan testified that she still suffers from 'night terrors and paranoia.' She did not report the myriad instances of violence, one of which included Combs tossing a knife into a wall, but she was terrified of Combs and his massive power. At one point, Combs threatened her life when she was accompanying Ventura on a 2016 beach photo shoot. 'He came up really close to my face and said something around the lines of, 'I'm the devil and I could kill you,'' Bongolan said. Bongolan and Ventura's rampant drug use together over their long-term friendship was another topic on Wednesday. In cross-examination, she was grilled about doing drugs with Ventura, selling them to her and giving them to her for free. The two would take cocaine, Percocet and Cocoa Puffs — marijuana blunts laced with Ketamine. The court adjourned after 4 p.m. Wednesday and will resume with defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland's grilling cross-examination of Bongolan, but not until 11 a.m. Thursday. Finally, the defense team had a long-awaited win Wednesday when Judge Arun Subramanian allowed them to meet with Combs in the court until 6 p.m. to strategize about the case. The team has been pushing for this extra time from the judge for weeks.
