Gen Z travel trends: Solo, flexible, and digitally driven

Time of India19 hours ago

Travel, the Gen Z Way: Solo, Digital & on their terms! Cleartrip, a Flipkart company and one of India's fastest-growing online travel technology platforms, has released new data insights from its latest report highlighting how Gen Z travellers are reshaping the Indian travel landscape.
As per Cleartrip, India's Gen Z is travelling differently—and on their own terms. New insights reveal how this generation is reshaping the way Indians plan and experience travel.
Driven by a digital-first mindset and a preference for independence, young travellers are embracing solo trips, smart payment choices, and flexible itineraries. 'Gen Z travellers are rewriting the rules of Travel. For them, travel is not just a break, but a lifestyle choice and a form of self-expression,' said a Cleartrip spokesperson. 'They're independent, digitally savvy, and far more willing to spend on personalised, comfortable experiences, often preferring solo or niche travel over traditional group itineraries.'
According to a recent travel report, Gen Z is 7 percent more likely to travel solo compared to other age groups. Unlike traditional family holidays, these trips focus on individual preferences, favouring nature, adventure, and quiet escapes over packed sightseeing schedules.
This shift in mindset is also seen in how they pay. UPI and debit cards are more common than credit cards among this group, with UPI transactions about 10 percent higher than in other age brackets.
Over 10% of Gen Z travellers also prefer EMI-based payments, allowing them to access better travel experiences without waiting for a bigger budget.
Convenience plays a role too. Meal-inclusive bookings are more popular with Gen Z, showing a growing preference for hassle-free travel options.
Flexibility and value continue to guide choices. Gen Z is more likely to use flexible booking options and redeem reward points, including travel coupons and loyalty offers, more often than other generations.
These trends point to a broader shift in Indian travel—where younger travellers are prioritising ease, value, and independence. For them, travel isn't just a holiday. It's a personal experience shaped by choice and convenience.

Israel-Iran tensions: 61 Rajasthanis stuck in Georgia; group seeks urgent help from PM Narendra Modi, EAM Jaishankar

JAISALMER: A group of 61 Indian citizens from Rajasthan, mostly chartered accountants and their families, are currently stranded in Georgia following the cancellation of their return flight due to escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran. The group, which includes three residents from Jaisalmer, was supposed to return home on Friday but found themselves caught in the crossfire of international flight cancellations. The travellers, part of a delegation organised by the Rajasthan Tax Consultants Organisation under the leadership of Ratan Goyal, were in Georgia for a residential refresher course from June 8 to June 13. Among those stranded are Jaisalmer resident Pramod Bhatia's son Bhavik Bhatia, daughter-in-law Sakshi and grandson Kiyansh, who had planned to fly back to Jaipur via Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight on Friday. However, the ongoing conflict has resulted in widespread cancellations affecting their travel plans. Pramod Bhatia, who is also a chartered accountant, described the situation as distressing, stating that while the group is safe, their families back home are increasingly worried about their well-being and return. The group took to social media platform X to seek urgent assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, foreign minister S Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Georgia for a safe evacuation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat 1 Teaspoon Every Night, See What Happens A Week Later [Video] getfittoday Undo "After checking out of our hotel and heading to the airport, we were informed that our flight to Sharjah had been cancelled due to the conflict," Bhavik told his father. 5 wildlife sanctuaries in India for shutterbugs who love the wild side

If your idea of a perfect shot involves more growls than grins and more paw prints than passport stamps, welcome to the club of wild-hearted shutterbugs! Wildlife photography isn't just about waiting in jeeps and hoping a tiger blinks at your lens, it's a thrilling blend of patience, timing, and the occasional monkey trying to photobomb your frame. Ready to this? Here are five Indian wildlife sanctuaries where nature makes for the ideal backdrop of your photograph. Ranthambhore National Park , Rajasthan Ranthambhore is basically all about drama, with royal ruins draped in vines and the odd banyan tree posing, giving you the drama, history, and a dash of danger. The tigers here love a bit of limelight, especially around water bodies like Padam Talao. Capture them mid-prowl or mid-yawn, and you've got a frame worthy of awards and jealous Instagram DMs. Kaziranga National Park , Assam Kaziranga's one-horned rhinos know how to strike a pose, wait to find them against a backdrop of tall grasslands, swampy wetlands, and misty hills. With elephants plodding through, wild buffaloes grazing, birds doing aerial acrobatics, every corner here is a photo op waiting to happen. Sunderbans National Park, West Bengal The Sunderbans is less about crisp tiger portraits and more about mystery. This mangrove maze is home to the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger, and while you may not always spot one, the tension in the air? Totally photogenic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Think shifting tides, claw marks on tree trunks, and crocodiles playing peek-a-boo from under your boat. It's like the noir version of wildlife photography — thrilling, shadowy, and weirdly addictive. Keoladeo National Park, Rajasthan If you prefer wings over whiskers, Keoladeo is your feathery paradise. Once a royal duck hunting ground, it now hosts thousands of migratory birds — from vibrant kingfishers and cranes to the odd pelican with main-character energy. Bring your longest lens, because these birds are both camera-shy and dramatically fashionable. Mornings here are a meditative blend of fog, flutter, and the occasional splash. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala Periyar is where wildlife photography slows down, takes a deep breath, and goes cruising on a boat. Located around a peaceful lake in Thekkady, the sanctuary offers shots of elephants drinking at the shore, sambars hiding in the greenery, and otters being their adorable, slippery selves. The misty Western Ghats backdrop adds cinematic flair, making every frame feel like a still from documentary. One step to a healthier you—join Times Health+ Yoga and feel the change

Delhi govt to start evening buses for tourists to PM Museum, War Memorial

Tourism minister Kapil Mishra on Friday said the Delhi government is going to start AC electric bus services to ferry tourists from Pradhan Mantri Sanghrahalya to the National War Memorial on an evening tour. He said more such bus services are being planned for other tourist places in the Capital. 'We have planned to start evening tours by AC electric buses from the Prime Minister Museum to the National War Memorial. We will hire new nine-metre electric buses from the Delhi Transport Corporation for the purpose. The service is going to start soon,' Mishra told HT. The Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya at Teen Murti Bhavan is a tribute to all Prime Ministers of India. The museum was inaugurated in 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The National War Memorial at India Gate is a memorial to the valour and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation. It was inaugurated in 2019 by Modi. Mishra said the details of other tourist places which will be covered under this service are being worked out and will be finalised soon. The minister said the buses will have a coloured design to make them stand out. An official in the minister's office said that according to the fare plans discussed so far, the bus ride will cost ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children aged between six and 12. There will be a tourist guide on-board who will inform visitors about the significance of these places. Fares are likely to be finalised soon, officials said. While presenting the 2025-26 budget, chief minister Rekha Gupta had announced that her government would develop a new tourist circuit to cover the National War Memorial, Kartavya Path and the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya.
