This comes with a number of Barcelona's standout stars in the midst of nothing short of sensational individual campaigns.
Amid an ongoing search for the treble, the likes of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and the aforementioned Pedri have all been named as legitimate contenders to be named world football's best player.
And though he has previously been keen to play the subject down, on Monday, the latter of this trio at last admitted that a Ballon d'Or triumph is very much on his wishlist.
Speaking to the media, in quotes gathered by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Pedri admitted:
'Since Rodri won the Ballon d'Or, it has become clear that a player who controls the midfield and dictates the tempo of the game can win this award. It has always been my dream to win the Ballon d'Or, but right now my focus is on team trophies'.

After 6-year absence, Isco returns to Spain's squad for Nations League semifinal. Rodri still out
MADRID (AP) — Isco is back with Spain's national team after a six-year absence, while Rodri remains out after a long injury layoff. Coach Luis de la Fuente on Monday named 26 players for the Nations League semifinal against France on June 5 in Stuttgart. Germany and Portugal will play in the other semifinal on June 4 in Munich. Advertisement The 33-year-old Isco, the former Real Madrid player who is now with Real Betis, hadn't been called up for Spain since 2019. His solid performances for Betis in the Spanish league earned him a spot in the national team again. 'I've never paid attention to how long they've been away," De la Fuente said. "It was the right time for Isco to return, he'll be there and he'll contribute, because if I had thought otherwise, he wouldn't have been there.' Rodri recently returned for Manchester City after a long layoff because of a serious knee injury, but De la Fuente felt it was too soon to bring him back to the national team. 'He's very important but has been out for eight months and played only 10 minutes," De la Fuente said. 'I've spoken with him and we thought it wasn't the time to take any risks.' Advertisement The coach did select midfielder Gavi, who also sustained a serious knee injury but played often for Barcelona this year. 'He's at a high level and has room for improvement,' De la Fuente said. 'He has to keep working to maintain the level he was at a little over a year ago.' Included in the list, as expected, were Barcelona players Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Dani Olmo. Athletic's Nico Williams also was called up. Some of those missing were defenders Iñigo Martínez of Barcelona and Raúl Asencio of Real Madrid. ___ Squad: Goalkeepers: David Raya (Arsenal), Álex Remiro (Real Sociedad), Unai Simón (Athletic Bilbao) Advertisement Defenders: Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Óscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo), Dani Vivian (Athletic Bilbao), Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona), Pedro Porro (Tottenham), Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid), Robin Le Normand (Atletico Madrid) Midfielders: Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Mikel Merino (Arsenal), Gavi (Barcelona), Alex Baena (Villarreal), Fabián Ruiz (Paris Saint-Germain), Aleix García (Bayer Leverkusen), Pedri (Barcelona), Isco (Real Betis). Real Madrid-bound Franco Mastantuono breaks a Lionel Messi record
Incoming Real Madrid signing Franco Mastantuono secured for himself an altogether noteworthy piece of Argentine football history, in the early hours of Friday. This came by way of his senior debut in the colours of the Albiceleste. Advertisement Argentine marked their return to action earlier today, locking horns with Chile in a 2026 World Cup qualifier. When all was said and done, Lionel Scaloni's troops emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result, courtesy of an early strike on the part of Julián Alvarez. It was the aforementioned Mastantuono, though, who went on to grab the headlines. This came after the prodigious attacking midfielder – all set to make the move to Real Madrid this summer – became his country's youngest debutant since the turn of the century. At just 17 years and 295 days old, Mastantuono was introduced off the bench during the 2nd-half in Santiago. Incoming Barcelona signing ‘will become the best in the world'
Incoming Barcelona signing 'will become the best in the world' Soon-to-be Barcelona star Joan García has this week been tipped to become the very best goalkeeper in world football. This comes a fresh round of praise on the part of one of his former coaches. It is of course common knowledge across Spain at this point that Barcelona have set their sights firmly on Joan's signature. Advertisement Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements between the posts for next season, the Blaugrana have earmarked the Espanyol standout as the ideal profile for present and future alike. So much so that some sources have gone as far as to point towards a transfer announcement as being all but imminent. And one individual in no doubt that Barcelona are set to secure for themselves nothing short of a world-class performer is Jesús Salvador. Salvador spent four years overseeing Joan's development at Espanyol, as a goalkeeper coach. And drawn on the 24-year-old's talents during an appearance on 'La Bruixola del Radioestadio Catalunya' on Onda Cero (as cited by Diario Sport) this week, Salvador gushed: Advertisement 'He goes unnoticed off the field, but he transforms inside. He has a lot of personality, prominence in the air. He is used to conceding many scoring chances and now, if he ends up at Barcelona, he will go through the opposite. He will not have as much work but when he does, he will have to be highly efficient. It involves brutal concentration. That aspect doesn't scare me about Joan. He is ready to increase his performance. 'He will end up being the best in the world,' it was concluded. Conor Laird – GSFN
