President, PM pay tribute to security forces
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid tribute to the security forces for killing 14 India-sponsored Khwarij in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.
In their separate statements, they praised the bravery of the security forces and reiterated that due to their professional expertise, the scourge of terrorism would be uprooted entirely.
President Zardari reiterated nation's resolve to eliminate terrorist elements and defend the country remained unwavering and expressed the country's commitment to eradicate the Fitna-al-Khawarij.
Calling terrorists, the enemies of the humanity, the prime minister in a statement said their nefarious designs would be thwarted.

Govt releases detail of Rs17tr Uraan Pakistan

Photo: PPI The federal government has released details of a five-year development plan — the Uraan Pakistan — estimated at Rs17 trillion, whose objective, according to Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, is to make Pakistan economically self-sufficient. Under the plan, the federal share will be Rs7 trillion, while the provinces will contribute Rs10 trillion. Ahsan Iqbal said the target is to transform Pakistan into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. For this, the development budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26 has been set at Rs4.2 trillion. Under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), the government has allocated Rs1 trillion in federal funding. The government has allocated Rs33 billion for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam; Rs35 billion for the Mohmand Dam; Rs100 billion for the Quetta-Karachi Highway; Rs25 billion for the Indus Highway; Rs15 billion for the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway and Rs10 billion for Karachi's K-IV water project. In the education sector, the government has earmarked Rs9 billion for Danish Schools and Rs4.3 billion for the Prime Minister's Skills Programme. It has allocated Rs1 billion for the treatment of Hepatitis C and Rs800 million for diabetes. The government has reduced the number of federal projects for the next five years from 1,071 to 800, eliminating low-priority and inactive projects. This reduction is expected to save the national exchequer Rs2.73 trillion. The federal development portfolio has now been limited to Rs12.8 trillion. The government has also established national centers for nanotechnology, quantum computing, and new industries, laying the foundation for the creation of a 'Quantum Valley' in Pakistan. According to the report, inflation dropped from 11.8% to 3.5% by May 2025 while the current account surplus reached $1.9 billion. Remittances also increased by 31%, reaching a total of $31.2 billion and the fiscal deficit decreased from 3.7% to 2.6% By eliminating unnecessary projects, the government saved Rs5.4 billion in April alone and 27 projects were approved or proposed in May 2025. The planning minister said 210 out of 240 PSDP projects have been thoroughly evaluated. Consultations regarding development partnerships were held with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the World Bank.

In an interview with AFP, Bilawal urged US President Donald Trump to play an active role in bringing India to the negotiating table for comprehensive talks with Pakistan. He stated that while Pakistan is open to discussions on terrorism, the central issue of any meaningful dialogue must be the Kashmir conflict. He highlighted the growing dangers posed by India, which used terrorism as a justification for military action, potentially destabilising the entire South Asian region. "The destiny of 1.7 billion people cannot be left to faceless non-state actors or India's so-called new normal," he warned. In a separate interview with Chinese media, Bilawal called out India for deliberately undermining regional peace through unilateral aggression on Pakistani soil. He stressed that the Pakistani community in the US must unite and contribute to shared goals of peace and prosperity. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to peace and dialogue, emphasising the country's role as a responsible actor amid rising tensions. The former FM appealed to the international community to support efforts for peace, noting that lasting stability in South Asia hinges on inclusive dialogue. A peaceful South Asia, with normalised trade relations between India and Pakistan, would bring widespread benefits to the region and beyond, he added. Bilawal further acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan's military leadership in the ongoing fight against terrorism. "We have consistently taken steps toward peace, while India continues its aggression," he said. "If India escalates the situation, Pakistan retains the right to respond accordingly." He also addressed the issue of Indian-sponsored terrorism in Balochistan, supporting terrorist groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and th Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He questioned whether this would lead to an ongoing cycle of conflict after every terrorist attack, given India's approach. He further stressed that Pakistan condemns terrorism and firmly rejects any involvement in recent incidents in Kashmir, calling for impartial international investigations, which India has so far rejected. Bilawal also raised concerns over India's threat to disrupt Pakistan's water supply under the Indus Water Treaty, describing this as a potential trigger for war. He urged the US and the international community to intervene and prevent this dangerous trend, warning of its catastrophic consequences for the entire region. He also proposed the possibility of an India-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which could enhance bilateral prosperity while benefiting regional and global stakeholders, particularly the US. Bilawal concluded the mission with a strong call for international support in ensuring lasting peace and stability in South Asia, stressing that both Pakistan and India must prioritise dialogue and cooperation to address shared challenges and secure a prosperous future for the region. Other members of the parliamentary delegation thanked the US for its positive response and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to peaceful resolutions of all unresolved issues.
