My Mom Is 53 and I'm 24 but We Agree: This Is the Only Skirt Style Worth Packing for Summer Trips

My mom is 53 and I'm 24, but when it comes to spring and summer style, we're surprisingly in sync—especially when packing our travel outfits. Lately, we've both been reaching for the same easy, elegant staple: the maxi skirt. She just returned from Italy, where she wore the Madewell Maxi Slip Skirt and the Smocked-waist Poplin Midi Skirt, and I'm already planning outfits for my summer getaway to France in August. We both agree: There's nothing more versatile than a breezy, flattering skirt that works just as well for dinner in Provence as it does for a weekend at the Jersey Shore.
From timeless white maxi skirts to romantic floral prints, we've found styles that suit both of our travel wardrobes—whether they're from Madewell, Quince, Amazon, or beyond. Every pick is packable, stylish, and endlessly wearable, no matter your age or itinerary. Below, you'll find the skirts we're packing and how we'd style them—starting at just $34.
We both fell for this timeless satin skirt for the same reason: it's flattering, easy to style, and makes every outfit look elevated. I originally picked it out for my mom in-store, and she's been wearing it on repeat ever since—most recently in Italy, where she paired the green shade with Madewell's Merino Wool-silk Sweater Tank and a gold belt for a dressy dinner look.
I love that it has a subtle slit and lightweight fabric that's perfect for warm-weather destinations, but also layers easily for cooler evenings. Whether you're styling it with sneakers and a tee or kitten heels and a blazer, this skirt is a suitcase M.V.P.—and it's currently on sale.
This A-line skirt is the definition of effortless. The pleated fabric has a floaty, summery feel that works in almost any setting, from an outdoor café in Nice to a casual brunch in NYC. My mom leans classic, styling hers with a button-up blouse and white sneakers. I like to wear mine with a strapless top and a cardigan tossed over my shoulders. It's the kind of skirt we can both reach for and style completely differently—and feel equally comfortable and chic.
This silk maxi skirt is a newer find we both immediately wanted in our carts. The tie waist and slightly lower fit give it a modern, laid-back feel, and the fabric makes it feel far more expensive than its $34 price tag. I can see us both wearing this on a summer night out—she'd go for a white tee, jean jacket, and flats, while I'd opt for a black bodysuit and a blazer. It's a surprisingly versatile staple that works from vacation dinners to date nights at home.
With more than 3,000 five-star ratings and a best-seller spot in Women's Novelty Skirts, this flowy ruffled option from Amazon earned its place in both our suitcases. The details set it apart—ruffles, an underlayer to prevent sheerness, and a forgiving fit. My mom loved how easy it was to style during a weekend trip to Long Beach Island, pairing it with a white tank and sandals. It's the kind of skirt that does all the work—just add a basic top and you're ready to go.
Quince is one of our favorite spots for affordable luxury, and this 100 percent European linen maxi skirt is no exception. It's breathable enough for a long summer day of sightseeing, but polished enough to wear to dinner with a pair of strappy heels. We both love how it pairs with everything from tanks and tees to Quince's matching linen vest. It's one of those rare pieces that works across generations and dress codes.
This Madewell midi skirt was one of the standout pieces from my mom's Lake Como wardrobe. She styled it with a ruched tank tucked in, so it looked like a breezy black dress, and finished the look with red ballet flats and a denim jacket for chillier nights. The smocked waistband is comfortable and flattering, and the lightweight poplin fabric holds its shape beautifully. She loved it so much that I've already made plans to borrow it for my next trip.
The J.Crew Maxi Skirt is a departure from our usual neutral wardrobe palette, and we both love that. The romantic floral print and ruffled hem give it a vacation-ready vibe, and the '90s-inspired cut feels fresh but timeless. I'm picturing it for a sunset dinner in Provence with a white tank, crochet bag, and tan sandals. My mom's already eyeing the matching tops, like the Pintuck Shell Top or the Ruffle-trim Camisole Top, to create a full set. It's proof that patterned skirts can still be versatile. $70 $56 at Abercrombie.com
We couldn't resist this colorful, veggie-print skirt from Abercrombie—it's fun, unexpected, and just what your travel wardrobe needs to break out of a neutral rut. The linen-blend fabric is breathable and soft, and the elastic waistband makes it super comfortable. I'd wear it with a white tank or the matching crop top and sandals for a European farmer's market morning. My mom says it reminds her of vintage prints she used to wear, but with a modern twist.
This floaty, tiered maxi skirt from Aritzia is a dream for summer travel. The pink color caught my eye immediately, but there are tons of other shades if you prefer a different vibe. Made from a drapey, breathable material, it's ideal for walking through European cobblestone streets in August without overheating. As soon as I showed it to my mom, she said yes without hesitation—it's the kind of piece that feels both age-inclusive and fashion-forward.
A true day-to-night hero, this linen-wrap maxi skirt from Banana Republic checks every box. My mom loves that she can throw it on over a swimsuit with slides during the day, then dress it up with a white linen top and heels for dinner. I plan to wear it with a ribbed tank and sandals in the city before packing it for a beach trip. The high-rise cut is flattering, and the wrap design makes it feel a little more elevated than your average linen skirt.

Brianne Howey's Georgia Faces A Life Sentence And Murder Trial In ‘Ginny & Georgia' Season 3 Trailer

Netflix has released the full trailer for Season 3 of one of its biggest young adult hits, Ginny & Georgia, Season 3 of which could be headed down a dark path. The show returns to Netflix June 5 with 10 episodes. Season 2 ended on quite a few chaotic notes, including Georgia (Brianne Howey) getting arrested at her fairytale wedding to Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter). More from Deadline 'Ginny & Georgia' Season 3: Everything We Know So Far 'Ginny & Georgia' Season 3 Casts Ty Doran & Noah Lamanna Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin Set As Host Of 'American Gladiators' Reboot On Amazon's Prime Video 'You know what I loved about your wedding?' Jennifer Robertson's Ellen Baker tells Georgia in the kitchen of the Baker household. 'It wasn't this cookie cutter copy and paste affair, it was very memorable.' 'Especially the part where I was arrested,' Georgia adds. To be clear, Georgia did commit the murder of Tom Fuller, husband of Cynthia Fuller (Sabrina Grdevich), whom she smothered in Season 2 while he was already ailing and in hospice. And her son Austin (Diesel La Torraca) witnessed her do it while he was playing a game of hide and seek with Cynthia's son Zach. He remained hidden in the closet while Tom's monitor flatlined. Austin's father Gil (Aaron Ashmore) also came to town last season, adding another wrinkle to the already layered life of Georgia Miller. 'My mom's awaiting your murder trial, and everyone at school is looking at me like I'm in the circus,' Ginny (Antonia Gentry) tells her best friend Maxine Baker (Sara Waisglass). 'It's fine.' 'College essay writes itself,' Max jokes. She later expresses deep concern for Ginny to the other two members of their friend group, MANG, Nora (Chelsea Clark) and Abby (Katie Douglas). Until her trial, Georgia will be under house arrest with an ankle monitor, which starts beeping when it needs to be charged. There seems to be tension between Paul and Georgia, though he can be spotted running with Ginny. RELATED: 'I've always known my mom was different,' Ginny's voice plays over scenes of her walking through a parking lot and being judged by her fellow students. 'There's more to her that people don't see.' 'Everyone thinks I'm a violent, unhinged monster,' Howey's voice plays over a scene of her having what looks like a panic attack. 'You can't give up,' Raymond Ablack's Joe, owner of Blue Farm, tells Georgia. 'At least it can't get any worse, right? Except if I go to prison, that would be worse,' she says with Joe next to him. 'I'm not a bad person, but if you come face to face with bad, you become a little bad yourself.' 'Mom needs me,' Ginny tells her father Zion (Nathan Mitchell). 'You think you have the whole story, but you don't.' Paul doesn't want any more secrets between him and Georgia. 'I've been defending my mom to everyone. I'm trying so hard to protect her, but I don't even know if it's the right thing to do,' Ginny says to a solemn looking Marcus (Felix Mallard), who had his own mental health struggles at the end of last season. 'I don't want my mom to go to prison.' Ellen Baker reaches out to comfort Ginny. 'You think she did this?' Paul asks Zion. The clip ends with Georgia chipperly declaring that she and Ginny are 'ride or die,' which they have been since the show's first season. RELATED: Created by Sarah Lampert, Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia gained a new showrunner in Sarah Glinski after Debra Fisher helmed the first two seasons. Executive producers include Jeff Tahler, Jenny Daly, Holly Hines and Daniel March for Dynamic Television as well as Armand Leo, Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron for Blue Ice Pictures. Co-Executive Producers are Elena Blekhter and Ali Kinney. These Comfy, Lightweight $42 Jeans Are as ‘Soft as Sweatpants' and the Only Denim I'm Packing for Summer Trips

If you typically avoid wearing jeans in the summer, you're not alone. While I usually live in jeans, once the weather turns warm, I almost always opt for shorts, skirts, or breathable linen pants. However, I've recently felt inspired to try out a pair of lightweight, summer-ready jeans, and I found the perfect pair at Amazon. I live in NYC, and I've been spotting drawstring jeans all over the city. The laid-back style pairs well with breezy linen blouses, simple tanks, and swimsuits. After searching for the perfect pair to add to my summer wardrobe, I've finally spotted the ideal drawstring jeans—and they're available at Amazon for under $50. Now, the Grapent Wide-leg Drawstring Jeans are at the top of my wishlist. These jeans first caught my eye thanks to their stylish wide-leg silhouette. Not only does this cut give an elevated appearance to any outfit, but it also means the jeans will feel breezier than fitted styles. I love the elastic waistband and drawstring detail, which will ensure a comfy fit, whether I'm sitting for extended periods or walking the streets of a stylish destination. Plus, plenty of reviewers praise the 'lightweight' feel of these jeans, and one shopper even wrote that they 'feel like sweatpants.' These jeans come in 13 different colors, including traditional blue hues, black washes, and even bubblegum pink. I'm adding a few different pairs to my cart, including dark blue and white options. I'll pair them with sneakers, sandals, and summery flats depending on the occasion. For petite shoppers, they would also pair well with heels, although based on reviews, I anticipate them being a bit too short to do so at 5-foot-7. While the Grapent Wide-leg Drawstring Jeans are currently holding the No. 1 spot on my summer wishlist, I'm eyeing a few more styles at some of my favorite retailers, including Madewell and Keep reading for more comfy and breezy jeans, trousers, and pants I'm adding to my cart. These drawstring jeans are even airier than the Grapent pair, thanks to the breathable lyocell fabric. This dark wash is so trendy and easy to style for summer, but these jeans are also offered in three other shades, including black. One reviewer called these jeans 'perfect for late spring in Florida,' so they're sure to withstand hot conditions, too. More than 1,000 shoppers purchased these linen-blend pants this month, and I think it's about time I join them. The thick elastic waistband is 'forgiving' and 'comfortable,' and the fitted waist complements the flowy, wide silhouette of the pant leg. According to reviewers, these pants are breathable enough to keep you cool in hot weather, so they're ideal for warm destinations. They come in 23 colors, but this natural shade is my favorite, since it's versatile enough to style with anything in my travel capsule wardrobe. These breathable cotton-linen pants are effortless and timeless, so I know I'll reach for them all summer long. While I don't have any big vacations on the calendar, these pants would be ideal for tropical destinations. One reviewer purchased a pair for their trip to the Philippines and loved them so much they decided to buy multiple. Choose from eight different colors, but keep in mind the lighter colors may be slightly see-through thanks to the lightweight fabric. Cargo pants have been in style for years, and it seems like the trend is only growing. This pair puts a sleeker spin on the trend, with minimal pockets and traditional cargo stitching. They're made of 100 percent cotton, so they'll be lightweight and breathable enough for summer days. I also love the coffee bean color, which will pair well with sporty T-shirts and lacy blouses alike. I love how these drapey Madewell jeans puddle at the floor, giving them a laid-back and elongated appearance. They feature a denim drawstring that looks slightly more sophisticated than typical drawstring jeans, but they provide the same adjustability to ensure the perfect fit. According to reviewers, the cotton-lyocell fabric is super soft and lightweight enough for summer. These classic linen pants come in nine vacation-ready colors, and I couldn't help but add a few to my cart. I especially love the butter yellow and navy color, although I'll also snag a versatile neutral. The linen fabric is lightweight and breathable, making it the perfect summer staple. Plus, the pants come equipped with four pockets, which are perfect for holding essentials. Pleated trousers have been on my wishlist for a while, and I'm eyeing this linen version from Anthropologie. They feature a super wide leg, which will keep things breezy, along with the linen fabric. I plan on pairing these pants with fitted tanks, tube tops, and cropped tees for laid-back, vacation-ready outfits that still look put-together. Love a great deal?
