Dragons prop Chris Coleman hunting first Wales cap in Japan
The 26-year-old from Garndiffaith was last week selected as one of three tightheads in the 33-strong squad for the summer tour.
It was reward for another strong campaign in which he played in 19 of 22 games, with 15 of them as a starter.
Coleman established himself as first choice on the right-hand side of the front row after the retirements of Leon Brown and Lloyd Fairbrother, plus injuries to Dmitri Arhip and Luke Yendle.
He racked up the minutes and, after returning from the Dragons' double-header in South Africa against the Stormers and Bulls, was ready to clock off for the summer when he got a pleasant surprise on squad announcement day.

'I was in the house on my own, went on my email and one had already been there for around half an hour,' said Coleman, who made his Dragons debut in 2018.
'It said congratulations on making the 33-man squad, I thought it might have been someone having me on and but on the CC list you could see the others that it had been sent to.
'I realised it must be true and rang my dad, mum and girlfriend to tell them all before the announcement. It was a nice moment for the family.'
Coleman has already taken part in the optional sessions for those not involved in play-off games; working up a sweat at the Vale Resort rather than soaking up the sun on the Aegean Sea.
He said: 'I'd booked a cruise to the Greek islands for my girlfriend's 30th, she was happy that I had got in the squad but it caused her a lot of stress trying to sell it! I'll have to rebook it.'
Coleman will hope to go on holiday as a Wales international by featuring on the two-Test tour, with clashes against the Brave Blossoms on July 5 and 12.
He will work closely with legendary former Wales and Lions tighthead Adam Jones plus ex-Dragons forwards coach Danny Wilson, a man who is notorious for his detail at the set piece.
'Adam Jones is a legend of the game and one of the best props that there has ever been, so I am looking forward to working with him and so many others,' said Coleman.
'I'm excited about what camp will be like and I'll try to take it in my stride, work hard and show my best rugby. I definitely want to push on and get that first cap, I don't want to just come in and train.'

He will have stiff competition for the 3 jersey next season from Wales international Dillon Lewis and South African Robert Hunt, whose arrival from the Cheetahs is yet to be confirmed.
Coleman has taken his tally of Dragons appearances up to 81 – more than Brown managed – and has totted up 16, 20, 12 and 19 outings in the last four campaigns.
Time in the middle has served him well and put him in with a chance of playing for his country.
'I've been aiming for this since I was young and there has been a lot of hard work to get to this point,' he said.
'At times it has been a tough slog but I always enjoy my rugby at the Dragons, and feel there is a lot more to come from me when I come back for next season.

'Others have been unlucky with injury but that has almost been a good thing for me – I have played a lot of games and I have never seen that as a burden.
'I've had the opportunities to play and that is the best way to learn, so I want to keep getting the games in.
'There are definitely plenty of hard times as a prop – especially with the South African teams in the league now – and I am still relatively young.
'I am looking forward to the summer but also coming back to try and kick on personally and as a team to get some results.'
And Coleman would love to be part of a 23-man squad that ends Wales' Test losing streak at Mikuni World Stadium in Kitakyushu.

Shropshire rail crossing safety plan welcomed
Network Rail's decision to improve safety at a rail crossing near the England-Wales border has been welcomed by North Shropshire's MP and a couple who live and Ann Edwards live near the viaduct south of Chirk and said a nearby pedestrian crossing over the line was often busy with Rail described the crossing as "a hot spot for trespassing" and said it had recorded numerous incidents of people spending too long getting from one side to the plans to install a set of warning lights at the crossing in December. Network Rail carried out a study between November and April, which recorded 13 incidents where people spent too long involved a "large group of 36 children and three adults", when one of the adults stepped off the crossing and stayed there for more than two minutes. On other occasions, people stopped to talk on their phones and one person was seen standing on the crossing for 17 at the site is one of the reasons it has decided to object to putting extra trains on the line for a direct service between Wrexham, Shropshire and London. Mrs Edwards believed lights "would be a benefit", but said "it comes down to the person's own common sense.""If you don't come and stand and listen and look both ways, well you're daft aren't you?"Mr Edwards agreed and said the crossing, between Gobowen in Shropshire and Chirk in Wrexham county, regularly saw groups of walkers crossing it, sometimes as many as 20 at a Rail has said plans to increase the number of trains on the line, to create a direct service between Wrexham and London, would create a situation which was "not tolerable".Helen Morgan, the Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, had called for safety measures to be installed and said: "If that crossing was in Birmingham, something would have been done about it". 5 Celtic Double winners facing uncertain futures this summer as Hoops braced for stick or twist transfer calls
The unpredictability of the transfer window means the Hoops will always prepare for the unexpected Brendan Rodgers has already placed his cards on the table. The Celtic boss dropped the poker face last month by revealing the exact number of additions he wants this summer. Three was the magic number - but there was a caveat. We expect there to be around four or five additions, but exactly many come in will depend on who goes out. In an ideal world, Rodgers would sprinkle some star dust on top of what he already has at his disposal. Yet the reality is, the Irishman knows the cards will be stacked against him being able to keep all of his top assets. Fans will hope Rodgers has an ace up his sleeve should any unexpected departures unfold, but at the back of his mind, the 52-year-old may already be braced for interest in some of his Double-winners. Here, Record Sport examines five key players who face uncertain futures. Greg Taylor Now officially a free agent, Celts have yet to confirm Taylor's departure. The left-back, 27, has dropped cryptic hints on social media that his trophy-laden seven years at Parkhead has come to an end, with interest swirling across Europe. Taylor is currently on a family holiday in Dubai and appears to have put the uncertainty surrounding his future on the back burner for some well-earned R & R. However, it's believed he's weighing up a proposal from Greek giants PAOK, who are said to have identified the defender as a key target. Signed as a replacement for Kieran Tierney in 2019, the £2million capture from Kilmarnock is reluctant to play second fiddle to the homecoming hero and the Hoops have already drawn up a list of possible successors, including Peterborough youngster Harley Mills. It's unlikely that loanee Jeffrey Schlupp will be offered a permanent deal by the Scottish champions after leaving Crystal Palace. Auston Trusty The jury remains out on £6m stopper Trusty. The USA international has flattered to deceive domestically but has stood up to the test on the European stage, even in the absence of first-choice Cameron Carter-Vickers. Aside from the 7-1 mauling in Dortmund, Trusty excelled at the heart of the defence, keeping clean sheets against Atalanta, Dinamo Zagreb and Young Boys. But when it comes to the bread and butter of the SPFL, the ex-Sheffield United and Arsenal centre-back has struggled to get to grips with Scottish football. Rodgers was even captured by Sky cameras venting his dismay at Trusty's weak defending in January's 3-3 thriller at Dens Park and after losing his place to Liam Scales towards the end of the campaign, Celts may try to recoup their massive outlay. Trusty and his wife recently welcomed their first child into the world and rumours suggest he may have options back in his homeland in the MLS. Reo Hatate The Japanese maestro splits the green-and-white faithful at times but his absence was sorely felt in the Treble-busting Scottish Cup Final defeat to Aberdeen. Hatate - who suffered a nasty knee injury at Pittodrie a week prior - has been accused of blowing hot and cold, with his manager even lamenting his inconsistency at times. Yet the dynamic playmaker's creativity was clearly missed at Hampden as the Hoops struggled to break down the stubborn Dons. Now 27 and about to enter his fifth season in Glasgow, there seems to be a growing acceptance that his days could be numbered and the four-in-a-row champs could decide to cash in. Celtic have mastered the art of selling when the time is right and a parting of ways could well suit both parties. Yet while Hatate's exit would boost the coffers by upwards of £12m, there's no doubt that he'd leave a gaping hole in the middle of the park. Nicolas Kuhn On the other hand, German winger Kuhn could be this summer's big-money sale. The bargain £3m signing from Rapid Vienna has caught the attention of clubs across Europe after his sizzling displays in the Champions League, haunting former employers RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich with trademark goals. The 25-year-old was unstoppable from pre-season until the turn of the year, but his form undoubtedly dipped from January onwards. No player in Celtic's team was subbed off more than Kuhn across the entire season (33 times), which shows the wide man is far from the finished article. With Jota crocked until 2026, Rodgers would rather keep Kuhn for at least another year. However, the Parkhead club's resolve could be tested in the coming months. Daizen Maeda Put simply, Maeda is irreplaceable. There's no one quite like the Japanese running machine in world football. The Hoops workhorse must be a manager's dream as his relentless pressing and versatility in the attacking areas make him an integral part of the team. Celtic's Durracell Bunny never seems to run out of battery, and this season, hoovered up every Player of the Year award going after finding his shooting boots, filling the void left behind by Kyogo's shock exit to Rennes with 33 goals. Now in the final two years of his contract, fans are sweating over whether the 27-year-old will be among those who return to Lennoxtown for pre-season. Maeda has been non-committal on his future but did offer the club's legions a glimmer of hope this week by insisting he wants to do even better for Celtic next term. Will his head be turned by the prospect of playing in a top-five league? It remains to be seen.
