The Edmonton Oilers' goaltending situation remains unsettled heading into Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final following a decisive 5–2 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 5.

After starting the younger Stuart Skinner in net for the first four games of the series, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch opted to go with Calvin Pickard and his perfect 7-0 record in the playoffs leading up to Game 5, a decision that surely backfired as the series was tied 2-2.
Asked after Saturday's loss about who will start Game 6, Knoblauch declined to confirm whether Pickard or Skinner will get the call in Tuesday's must-win game in Florida.
"I'm not going to make that decision right now after a tough loss like tonight," Knoblauch said.
Pickard surrendered four goals on 18 shots, marking his first loss of the postseason.

Knoblauch expanded on what went wrong on Saturday in Pickard's first start since the second-round matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
"From what I saw, I think Picks didn't have much chance on those goals — breakaways, shots through screens, slot shots," Knoblauch said. "There's nothing saying that it was a poor performance."

Florida capitalized early with goals by Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett in the first period, getting to a 3-0 lead 5:12 into the third period.
Despite some pushback from Edmonton, including goals by Connor McDavid and Corey Perry, the Panthers closed out strong to take a 3–2 finals lead.

'Knowing that we're in a difficult situation, win our last two games is something we're confident that we can do," Knoblauch said. "We've been through difficult situations before, and here's just another one that we'll overcome.'
In order to win two games, the Oilers must start with a bounce-back victory in Game 6, scheduled for Tuesday in Sunrise, FL, with puck drop set at 8 p.m. ET.

Kawhi Leonard Named in Kevin Durant Trade Report on Sunday

Kawhi Leonard Named in Kevin Durant Trade Report on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kevin Durant enjoyed another prolific season with the Phoenix Suns in 2024-25, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists across 62 games. He earned his 15th All-Star selection, eclipsed 30,000 career points, and maintained elite efficiency—shooting 52.7% overall and 43% from three. Advertisement However, despite Durant's breathtaking individual brilliance, team results fell short yet again. The Suns failed to reach the playoffs, finishing 36-46, a result that eventually led to the dismissal of head coach Mike Budenholzer. Due to the Suns' disappointing season, trade speculation around Durant has dominated headlines all summer. Phoenix's decision to trade him appears imminent, with league experts suggesting his tenure in Arizona will end as the franchise seeks to maximize return and shed luxury tax burden. Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (35).Scott Wachter-Imagn Images His expiring $54.7 million contract adds urgency to both sides—Suns hoping for elite assets, Durant pursuing a true title contender. Advertisement Now, an unexpected suitor has emerged. On Sunday, ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed on SportsCenter that the Toronto Raptors are 'lurking' in the Durant sweepstakes—even though they're not among his top-preferred destinations. Windhorst compared the situation to Toronto's 2018 trade for Kawhi Leonard: a bold one-year gamble to chase a championship. "This is somewhat reminiscent to what happened in 2018 when Kawhi Leonard was a free agent," Windhorst said. Toronto's interest makes sense. With a current core of Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes, and RJ Barrett, plus budding depth, the Raptors have the cap space and draft currency to propose a plausible trade—especially for a rental who could push them into serious playoff contention. Advertisement If acquired, the Raptors will add a four-time scoring champion and former league MVP in Durant, known for his offensive assets and killer instinct. His ability to stretch defenses with lethal shooting and reputation for high performances over the years would dramatically raise the ceiling for a team poised on the fringe of the Eastern Conference's upper tier. Buccaneers' Coach Todd Bowles is 'More Ron Rivera than Mike Tomlin'

Buccaneers' Coach Todd Bowles is 'More Ron Rivera than Mike Tomlin' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on an incredible run of five straight postseason appearances that include a record-tying four consecutive NFC South division wins. Advertisement A lot of the credit for that can be attributed head coach Todd Bowles. But is Bowles the coach who can get them over the top for the franchise's third Super Bowl title? NFL Trade Rumors' Logan Ulrich doesn't think so. "The Bucs are talented, deep and experienced on both sides of the ball, and made steps to address weaknesses at pass rusher and cornerback this offseason by bringing in OLB Haason Reddick and double-dipping on cornerbacks in the draft," Ulrich wrote. "All told, the Buccaneers are getting some hype as a potential breakout team in 2025 that can jump into the fray with the top teams in the conference. Advertisement "I'm not sure I can get on that bandwagon. Bowles has proven himself to be a competent coach, but I think he has more in common with former Panthers and Commanders HC Ron Rivera than he does with someone like Steelers HC Mike Tomlin. Rivera is a first-class person, but as a coach, his record of 102-103-2 does a pretty good job of encapsulating how he stacks up against his peers, even if he did make a Super Bowl appearance with Carolina." Bowles has his shortcomings, but it's mostly as the defensive coordinator. His clock management and use of timeouts has been called into question too. And his critics credit the poor division with his success. But with a revamped defense and an improved offense, 2025 could be the season for Bowles and the Bucs.
