What YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's father said after meeting her on Day 1 of judicial custody

Hindustan Times2 days ago

Harish Malhotra, father of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who has been accused of spying for Pakistan, visited her at Hisar's Central Jail No. 2 on Tuesday – her first day in judicial custody.
Harish Malhotra, visibly emotional after meeting his daughter, told the media that Jyoti had insisted she was innocent. 'She told me she has done nothing wrong,' he said. He chose not to go into more details, The Times of India reported.
Jyoti Malhotra was among the 12 people arrested from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the past three weeks on suspicion of espionage, with investigators suspecting the presence of a Pakistan-linked spy network operating in north India.
The Hisar native ran a YouTube channel – "Travel with JO". She was arrested at the New Aggarsain Extension recently and booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
On Monday, a court in Hisar remanded Jyoti Malhotra to judicial custody after the end of her police remand in a case of alleged espionage.
The 33-year-old travel influencer was produced in the court. A police spokesperson said they did not seek her further remand after which the court sent her to jail.
Meanwhile, data from Jyoti's three mobile phones and a laptop, which had been sent for forensic examination, has been recovered, police sources said on Monday.
'Nearly 10-12 terabytes of data has been recovered. Further investigation in this regard is under progress,' they said.
After her arrest, the police had sent her three mobile phones and a laptop for forensic examination. Malhotra's four bank accounts are also being examined.
The court had extended Malhotra's police remand by four days when the YouTuber -- arrested on suspicion of espionage -- was last week produced before the court at the end of her five-day police remand.
The Hisar police had said no evidence had emerged to indicate Jyoti had access to any military or defence related information.
But she was definitely in contact with some people, knowing that they were Pakistani intelligence operatives, they had said.
Police sources had said she was in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani high commission, since November 2023. India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage.
The National Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau, and military intelligence officials have also questioned Jyoti.
Investigations have revealed that she visited Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, and some other countries.
She was also allegedly in touch with Danish during the four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan that followed the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, they had said.

Destroying 118 enemy posts in three days proves BSF's professional excellence: HM Amit Shah

Jammu: Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday, saying that destroying 118 enemy posts in just three days proves the bravery, courage and professional excellence of the force. Addressing the BSF jawans in Poonch district, Amit Shah lauded the BSF for its resolute response to Pakistani aggression earlier this month and said that over 118 enemy posts were destroyed and damaged in retaliatory action along the Jammu frontier by the BSF. Amit Shah said the BSF guarding the International Border (IB) in J&K had dismantled the enemy's surveillance network, dealing a serious blow that would take them years to repair. The Union Home Minister, during his two-day visit, reviewed the security situation, Amarnath Yatra preparedness and interacted with victims of Pakistani shelling in Poonch district. 'When Pakistan responded to our anti-terror operations by attacking our borders and civilian areas, it was the BSF jawans of the Jammu Frontier who retaliated by destroying and damaging over 118 posts,' he said. He pointed out that the BSF dismantled the enemy's entire surveillance system piece by piece, a system that will take them four to five years to rebuild. 'BSF Director General told me that Pakistan has suffered the biggest blow to its communication systems and surveillance equipment, rendering them incapable of waging a full-fledged information-based war for quite some time,' the Home Minister said. Praising the BSF's readiness even during times of relative peace, Shah said their intelligence enabled precise pre-emptive action, which proves that even during peacetime, they kept a vigilant eye. 'Based on your accurate intelligence, a precise counter-strategy was prepared well in advance. When the opportunity arose, you implemented it with success. Such bravery only emerges when there is pride in the nation, a sense of patriotism in the heart, and a passion for supreme sacrifice. That is when such outcomes are possible,' said Shah. He added that the BSF continues to serve as India's first line of defence, operating across deserts, mountains, forests, and rugged terrains with unwavering dedication. 'Whenever there is any kind of attack on India's borders, organised or unorganised, covert or overt, the first to bear the brunt are our BSF jawans, but they never pause to consider where the boundary lies,' he said Reflecting on his travel to Poonch despite inclement weather, Shah said he was determined to meet the jawans personally. 'I came to Poonch to visit and share the grief of the damage done to gurudwaras, temples, mosques, and civilian populations. I was told the weather was not favourable. Still, I decided that I would go by road and return only after meeting the jawans posted at the border,' he said. The Home Minister said that God was gracious, the weather cleared up, and he had the opportunity to meet them. The Union Home Minister expressed gratitude to the BSF troopers on behalf of the government and the citizens of India. 'The cheer for BSF is as loud as for the Army, and that is a matter of great pride for all of us,' he said. The Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated that the valour and sacrifices of BSF jawans have earned national admiration and stand as a symbol of India's enduring resolve towards security.

‘Pahalgam Made Me Famous': LeT Terrorists, Pakistani Ministers Share Stage, Attack PM Modi, India

Last Updated: Pak's state-terror nexus: As Saifullah Kasuri boasts of fame, Talha Saeed calls Pahalgam attack 'drama'. Minister Rasheed says Hafiz Saeed, Kasuri represent '24 crore Pakistanis" Underscoring Pakistan's state-terror nexus, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Saifullah Kasuri, believed to be the mastermind of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, on Wednesday attended a rally, along with their ministers and wanted terrorists, including 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed's son, Talha. 'I was blamed and called the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, now I am famous in the entire world," said Kasuri, at the event in Kasoor in Punjab province. According to an India Today report, Pakistan's Food Minister Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan and Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan were present in the crowd. They welcomed Kasuri on the stage and embraced him. 'HUM GOLIYON SE DARNE WALE HAIN KYA?' Kasuri went on to announce plans to build a centre, road, and hospital in Allahabad in the name of Mudassir Shaheed, who was reportedly one of several high-profile terrorists killed in May 7 strikes by India on nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks – 'Roti khaao, nahi to meri goli hai hi" – Kasuri said, 'Narendra Modi samajhta hai hum goliyon se darne wale hain? Ye uski bhool hai (Modi is mistaken if he thinks we are scared of bullets)." In fact, the ministers personally welcomed Kasuri to the stage and embracing him. The India Today report further stated that Minister Malik Rasheed openly declared that '24 crore Pakistanis are today represented by men like Hafiz Saeed and Saifullah Kasuri". MY FATHER UNDER PEACEFUL PROTECTION OF STATE: HAFIZ SAEED'S SON Talha, 50, is a senior leader of the LeT and is the head of the cleric wing of the banned outfit. He is actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, planning and executing attacks by LeT in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan, according to the FirstPost. In the rally, he said, 'Today there is a message for India from Pakistan. We have won 'Operation Bunyan al-Marsus' and God should accept our presence here. I'm thankful to Malik Ahmad Khan, speaker of Punjab Assembly, Malik Rashid Khan and Saifullah Khalid for their presence here on stage. I also salute the people of Pakistan on behalf of my father Hafiz Saeed. I am here to tell you God loves those who do jihad." Talha also called the Pahalgam terror attack 'drama", adding that his father was under the peaceful protection of the state. Earlier in February, Talha delivered a provocative speech at a rally in Lahore to 'liberate Kashmir from India at any cost". A REGULAR OCCURRENCE In September 2018, Pakistan's Religious Affairs and Interfaith Minister Noor-ul-Haq Qadri shared a platform with Hafiz Saeed. In December 2018, Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi openly expressed support of his government to Saeed and his terror outfit. In September 2013, the terrorist, who carries a US bounty of $10 million, appeared openly at a rally in Islamabad, denouncing India as a terrorist state. In February 2014, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, the man behind the 2001 Parliament attack in India, spoke against the country in a rally in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir capital Muzaffarabad.
