Second man charged with murder in fatal shooting of Kansas City convenience store owner
A second man has been charged with murder after a south Kansas City convenience store owner was fatally shot in a confrontation over a bag of chips and a drink that were allegedly stolen from his store.
Justin J. Arbee, 25, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 65-year-old Zulfiqar 'Joe' N. Ladhani, the owner of Joe's Liquor and Convenience Store. Kevin L. Herring, 25, was also charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in Ladhani's death on Feb. 21.
Police responded to the scene around 6 p.m. on Feb. 10. Ladhani was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside his store in the 8000 block of Hickman Mills Drive. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene at 6:14 p.m., according to court documents.
Arbee, Herring and another suspect had allegedly arrived at the store together in a Ford Expedition, two members of the group carrying guns, according to court documents. The group entered the store, where Arbee allegedly stole several items, court documents read.
As the trio returned to their car, Ladhani allegedly followed with a pistol, which he pointed through the front passenger window at Arbee, court documents read. Arbee passed the stolen items back to Ladhani through the window, after which Ladhani headed back toward the store, according to court documents.
As Arbee and the third suspect began to drive the Expedition out of the parking lot, Herring got out of the car and allegedly fired multiple shots at Ladhani. At the same time, Arbee allegedly fired multiple shots at Ladhani from the passenger seat of the car.
The third suspect, who was in the back seat of the Expedition, was arrested Feb. 14. He has not yet been publicly identified by prosecutors in relation to the shooting.
Court documents also indicate that the shooting was captured on video by nearby surveillance cameras, with footage contributing significantly to the three suspects' arrests. Investigators also spoke with two witnesses who were not injured, according to court documents.
Funeral services for Ladhani were held Feb. 16 in Kansas City. He is survived by four children.
Arbee is not eligible for bond, according to court records. His first hearing has not yet been scheduled. Herring, who is being held on a $500,000 bond, will next appear in court March 13 for a bond hearing.
Ladhani's death was the 21st homicide reported in Kansas City in 2025, according to data collected by the Kansas City Star. At the same time last year, seven homicides had been reported in the city, according to Star data.

Three people killed in crash on interstate in South Carolina, cops say
Three people were killed early Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 85, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The three-vehicle collision happened at about 12:15 a.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper William Bennett. A 2015 Honda sedan was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-85, according to Bennett. At the 75 mile marker the Honda collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota sedan that was driving north on I-85, Bennett said. After that collision, the Honda then crashed into a 2024 Ford Expedition that was also heading north on the interstate, according to Bennett. The driver, who was the only person in the Honda, as well as both the driver and a passenger in the Toyota died at the scene, Bennett said. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office has not publicly identified any of the victims. In addition to the Ford driver, there were five passengers in the SUV, but none of those occupants were hurt, according to Bennett. No other injuries were reported. There was no word if anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt. Information about how the Honda came to be driving toward oncoming traffic on I-85 was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol. Through June 1, at least 316 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported. At least 38 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported. That includes a fatal crash on Saturday afternoon. At about 1:50 p.m., both a 2007 Dodge Ram and a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle were driving north on S.C. 11, Bennett said. When the pickup truck turned left onto Cannon Ford Road it was hit on the driver's side by the motorcycle, according to Bennett. The motorcycle driver, who died at the scene, has not been publicly identified by the coroner's office. Bennett said the pickup driver, who was the only person in the truck, was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported. This crash also continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

One dead and six hurt in crash near Clifton
Bosque County, Tx (FOX 44) – One person is dead and six injured with two of those critical following a Thursday morning head on collision near Clifton. Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said it happened about 6:00 a.m. on FM 219 near FM 3265 northeast of Clifton. Sgt Howard said the preliminary investigation indicated a Ford Escape was traveling north on FM 219 and crossed into the southbound lane, colliding head on with a Ford Expedition. The driver of the Escape was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco where he was pronounced dead. All six occupants of the Expedition were transported to other area hospitals, with two of those reported to be in critical condition. The names of the victims were being withheld Thursday morning pending notification of next of kin. FM 219 was closed to all traffic for a time resulting a long back up. Police: Rockford man robs CVS, attacks officers
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Zamareyo Gibson, 20, for robbing a CVS, among other charges. On June 4, around 1 a.m., officers were called to the CVS Pharmacy on South Alpine Street for reports of a suspect who stole $260 out of a register. The cashier told authorities he feared he was going to be attacked by Gibson, so he opened the register for the suspect. Soon after, officials tracked down Gibson's blue Ford Expedition and took him into custody at North Horseman and West Jefferson Streets. Police found loose cash, rolled coins and multiple books of stamps. Gibson damaged the inside of the squad car he was transported in, causing a water leak, according to court records. He also kicked and spat on multiple officers when he was taken to jail, authorities reported.
