As the college football offseason continues and games are less than two months away, high expectations are being thrown around for some of the top programs.

One of those teams is the Texas Longhorns, who came up just short of a national championship last season, falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl semifinal.
However, with quarterback Arch Manning set to take over, they have a real shot in 2025. On Wednesday's episode of ESPN's "Get Up," analyst Paul Finebaum was asked if the Longhorns are his favorites to win the national championship.
"Absolutely,' Finebaum said. 'They have Arch Manning, in case you have not gotten that email from the front office, and he is expected to be better than Quinn Ewers... I think Arch Manning, had he come in during the Cotton Bowl, may have had a better shot, may have even beaten Ohio State, but he is going to be the leader of this team. They reloaded in the portal, to the tune of many millions and millions of dollars."
Throughout the offseason, Texas was a big player in the transfer portal, recruiting a total of 11 commitments for a group that ranks No. 17 in the nation and No. 7 in the SEC.

They also have several key starters coming back, including cornerback Malik Muhammad, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and EDGE Colin Simmons, who were all placed in College Football Network's list of top 100 returning players.
Of course, to compete for a national championship, a Week 1 win would be huge, and they face a tough opponent in Ohio State, where ESPN BET already has the Longhorns as three-point underdogs.

If Finebaum is correct, though, and Manning can lead Texas to a national championship win, it would be their fifth in program history and the first since 2005 when they defeated the USC Trojans 41-38 in the Rose Bowl.

Rich's career in broadcasting began back in January 1984 as a videotape editor at WFLA in Tampa, Florida. He then went on to become a Weekend Sports Anchor at KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri. 22News' Rich Tettemer awarded Garry Brown Excellence Award night before retirement Rich joined the 22News team on April 18, 1988, which was Patriots Day with both the Boston Marathon and the Red Sox morning game, and handled the busy day smoothly. He stood with us through the glory years, covering all the unforgettable Patriots Super Bowl victories. In locker rooms, on parade routes, and in the hearts of fans, Rich captured the emotion behind every win. From Salt Lake City to Torino, he showed us the world stage at the Olympics. In 2004, an event would be what Rich calls the pinnacle of his sports career. After 86 long years, the Red Sox finally broke the curse, and Rich was right there, bringing the magic home to fans who had waited a lifetime. When the Eagles landed Gardner-Johnson the first time around, he was traded by the New Orleans Saints after spending his first three seasons there. The veteran safety was a helping hand in getting the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2023. The Minnesota Vikings are the greatest team in NFL history to never win the Lombardi Trophy. They've played in 53 playoff games (21-32), 10 conference championships (4-6) and our Super Bowls (0-4). Yet, since the AFL/NFL merger in 1961 (Super Bowl era), the 65-year-old Vikings have never been to climb the ultimate NFL mountain. The closest they ever came were all from the same Purple People Eaters era from 1968 to 1978, when the Minnesota Vikings made the playoffs in 10 of 11 seasons, a run that included all four of the team's Super Bowl runs, to date — three of which were lead by legendary head coach Bud Grant and the greatest QB in franchise history, Fran Tarkenton. It stands to reason that Minnesota will find a way to honor Jim Marshall this season. His number 70 is one of six retired by the organization. I can imagine there will be a jersey patch or, at least something on Vikings helmets this season, in order to commemorate Marshall and everything he has meant to the Minnesota Vikings.
