PGA Championship officials temporarily suspended the third round at Quail Hollow due to "dangerous weather". The suspension occurred at 8:15 a.m. Eastern Time, so no players were on the course to start the day.
An estimated time for the tournament to resume has not yet been announced. According to the Accuweather website, the US National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire Charlotte, North Carolina area, which is expected to end at 12:00 Eastern Time.
The start of the third round of the PGA Championship delayed due to a dangerous weather situation at 8:15 a.m. — PGA TOUR Communications (@PGATOURComms) May 17, 2025
Accuweather reports that precipitation over Quail Hollow has been light but steady. Skies are completely overcast over the PGA Championship venue and humidity is at 77%.
However, barometric pressure is on the rise, which is helping to reduce the chances of severe weather. There is still a 40% chance of rain, so the restart of the second major of the season will have to wait a few more hours.
The forecast for the afternoon has the chance of rain dropping to 25%, but winds in excess of 20 MPH are expected. The temperature on the course will be 87° F to make the day even more challenging.
The 74 players who made the cut were paired off for the third round. This suspension may result in a reorganization of groups depending on the time of the day's start.

The final round is not expected to suffer from such contingencies, as the weather forecast calls for only a 1% chance of rain and winds of only 5 MPH.
Jhonattan Vegas is the leader after the first 36 holes of the PGA Championship with a score of 8 under. Matthieu Pavon, Matt Fitzpatrick and Si Woo Kim are tied for second at 6 under, while Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler are tied for fifth at 5 under.

NOAA predicts plenty of hurricanes in 2025: What to know at a glance

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its predictions for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season on Thursday, May 22, and if you live along the coast or anywhere hurricanes impact, you may want to consider preparing for it now as we're looking at the potential for another season of above average activity. "Warm sea surface temperatures are probably the No. 1 contributor to the whole thing," said Ken Graham, director of the National Weather Service. "Not much wind shear. "Wind shear tears the storms apart. We don't expect a lot of wind shear and the African monsoons, conducive spots to be able to launch out the waves, launch out the storms — everything's in place for an above average season." The season is expected to be much like last year. There were 18 named storms in 2024 with six hurricanes and five major hurricanes including Hurricane Helene which caused destruction in five states and became one of the deadliest storms in recent history. Colorado State University is predicting the following for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season: 17 named storms 9 hurricanes 4 major hurricanes AccuWeather is predicting the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season could bring: Direct U.S. impacts: 3-6 Named storms: 13-18 Hurricanes: 7-10 Major hurricanes: 3-5 NOAA is predicting a 60% chance of an above average season, a 30% chance of it being average and a 10% chance of it being below average season. Keep a copy of this plan in your emergency supplies kit or another safe place where you can access it in the event of a disaster. Start at the emergency plan webpage. AUSL debuts: Rosters, stars to watch in Athletes Unlimited Softball League Show Caption Hide Caption Los Angeles Olympics move softball and canoe to Oklahoma City Instead of taking place on the West Coast, the sports will be the middle of the country. The 2025 Women's College World Series just wrapped up and softball fans still riding high from the Texas Longhorns' national championship run are in luck. The inaugural Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) season gets underway on Saturday, meaning you don't have to wait long for fierce competition among world-class athletes. The AUSL officially kicks off on June 7 with an opening day matchup between the Talons and Bandits in Rosemont, Illinois, followed by a game between the Volts and Blaze in Wichita, Kansas. The Volts-Blaze game will be broadcast nationally on the MLB Network, marking the first pro softball game ever featured on the league's network. It was made possible by some heavy hitters backing the league. The MLB announced a wide-ranging partnership with the AUSL last week, marking Major League Baseball's first investment in a women's professional sports league. MLB will leverage its broadcast partners and platforms to promote the visibility of the AUSL, which is helmed by commissioner Kim Ng, the former Miami Marlins general manager (2021–23). 2025 SCHEDULE: How to watch Athletes Unlimited Softball League AUSL: Partnership with MLB will help 'shine light' on softball's biggest stars Not only does the AUSL have the support of MLB, the women's professional softball league will be shepherded by icons that have helped introduce the world to softball.
