Why don't we celebrate the King's Birthday public holiday on King Charles III's actual birthday?

The King's Birthday is a public holiday in all eight states and territories of Australia, but why don't we celebrate it on King Charles III's actual birthday?
In fact, it hasn't coincided with a royal's birthday in almost a century.
King Charles III was born on November 14, 1948, but the holiday falls on the second Monday in June in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory, and some external territories.

The release of the Birthday Honours List is timed around the June holiday and includes new members of the Order of Australia and other Australian honours.
In 2025, the holiday will be observed on June 9.
However, in Queensland, the holiday is celebrated on the first Monday of October, falling on October 6 this year.
In Western Australia, they already celebrate Western Australia Day — formerly known as Foundation Day — on the first Monday in June.
Instead, the King's Birthday holiday in WA can fall on the fourth Monday of September or the first Monday of October. This depends on school term dates and the scheduling of the Perth Royal Show.
The chosen date is announced by the Governor of Western Australia each year and will be observed on September 29 this year.
That being said, the holiday is marked on different dates in Karratha and Port Hedland, where they do not observe a public holiday on the state's official date.
The City of Karratha has been celebrating the monarch's birthday on the first Monday in August — to coincide with the FeNaCING Festival — since the 1990s.
In Port Hedland, the King's Birthday is celebrated alongside the Hedland Cup.
Why do most of us celebrate in June?
The monarch's birthday was first marked in the United Kingdom in 1748, and an Australian holiday was officially declared by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1788.
The holiday was celebrated on the reigning monarch's actual birthday until 1936, when King George V died.
His birthday was June 3, and his son King Edward VIII — who abdicated after 327 days — was born on June 23.
King George VI, who was born on December 14, then took the throne.
The current date was chosen for its suitability in the UK.
In the Northern Hemisphere, June marks the start of summer and warmer weather.
As a Birthday Parade is conducted each year, ensuring good weather was among the considerations when selecting a permanent date.
The holiday's proximity to other holidays was also considered.
The state moved the date around a few times in recent years, but Queensland has observed the holiday in October since 2015.

BHP's monumental copper pay and play in Chile

Complete with goggles, breathing mask and hard hat, I peer cautiously over the edge of the world's biggest copper mine. BHP's Escondida project is 3000 metres high up in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, close to the Andes mountains and 1200 kilometres from Santiago. It's a compelling example of the close connections between Australian resources companies and the mining-based economy of this spectacular country stretching out along South America's western coast.

Hunt for Oz Lotto $70m winner: Incomplete details mean identity of ticket-holder still a mystery

They have woken up $70m richer, but might not even know it yet. The hunt is on for Tuesday night's Oz Lotto winner after they scooped the entire division one prize pool. Beating out an estimated one in five Aussies who were expected to buy a ticket. While the lucky player from Victoria purchased their ticket online, The Lott says their details were incomplete so they haven't been able to make contact. On Wednesday morning, a spokesperson confirmed the winner still hadn't been in touch. They purchased the 18-game entry for $26 and lottery officials are urging everyone to check their tickets. The win is history-making — the second biggest lottery win ever in Victoria. 'In addition to finishing the financial year with $70 million, this elusive winner goes down in Victorian history books with a prize only surpassed by the state's two previous $80 million wins,' The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said. In division two, 20 winners each took home more than $48,000, and 193 division three winners banked close to $6000. 'In addition to seeing the massive $70 million prize land in their bank account, this player also shares the crown of the second-biggest individual Oz Lotto winner in the game's 31-year history.' There have already been three Oz Lotto division one wins totalling $185 million this year. A $70 million Oz Lotto jackpot was won by a 15-share syndicate in Queensland, with each taking home a $4.7 million slice. A western Sydney woman made history with a $100 million win in February, the game's most lucrative prize ever. 'Who is this? Why are you calling this late?' the winner told The Lott when contacted after the draw. 'What the hell! Can you repeat that? Oh my god! Don't lie to me!' Just a few weeks later, $15 million was claimed by a North Queensland man. The winning numbers for Tuesday's draw 1633 are 44, 34, 45, 1, 46, 25 and 21. The supplementary numbers are 9, 14 and 16. If you think you are holding the lucky ticket, call The Lott on 131 868. — with 7NEWS
