The Royal Ascot is the annual week of horse racing at Ascot Racecourse, which is a track founded in 1711 by Queen Anne. It is located about six miles from Windsor Castle, and it is traditional that the Royal Family ride in a procession from the castle to the racecourse to kick off the first day of the event.
This year marks a special milestone, as it is the 200th anniversary of the Royal Procession. To celebrate, and Queen Camilla have brought a first-ever installation to the racecourse — The Queen's Reading Room.
"This year, The Queen's Reading Room will be present at Royal Ascot for the first time and we do hope that the installation will be of interest to those who visit — and that the delights of reading might even serve to enhance the pleasures of riding…" reads the statement from the King and Queen. We love the pun!
The Queen's Reading Room is Queen Camilla's literacy charity that works "to celebrate and promote the power and benefits of reading, in the UK and beyond," according to its official website. It continues, "Through groundbreaking neuroscientific research, we seek to discover and celebrate the unique power of books to improve brain health, mental health and social connection…Our charity seeks to promote the accessibility and joy of stories and storytelling, and we reach more than twelve million people in 174 countries around the world each year with our free, educational content around books; as well as staging major festivals and events around the UK and internationally."
The Royal Ascot runs from June 17 until June 21. King Charles and Queen Camilla wish the best of luck to all the competitors. Below is their statement in full:
"We are delighted to welcome you to Royal Ascot, where we will experience another week of top-class racing, drawing competitors and spectators from across the world. No doubt there will be some spectacular performances on the track this week, to which we can all look forward."This year marks the 200th anniversary of the first royal procession to Ascot racecourse from Windsor Castle in the reign of King George IV. This has become a familiar feature of the Royal Meeting ever since, and a unique spectacle in the world of racing. The hardworking Windsor Greys look magnificent every da,y and in this special year, they deserve extra recognition, as do those in the Royal Mews who look after all the horses with such dedication.
"This year, The Queen's Reading Room will be present at Royal Ascot for the first time, and we do hope that the installation will be of interest to those who visit — and that the delights of reading might even serve to enhance the pleasures of riding.
"Last year, we were delighted to witness an Australian winner of the first running of the King Charles III Stakes and look forward to seeing a number of top-quality international runners compete this week. The worlds of racing and breeding are truly international, and Royal Ascot continues to be a crucial week in the global calendar for both.

Country Music Hall of Fame Makes Huge Lainey Wilson Announcement

Country Music Hall of Fame Makes Huge Lainey Wilson Announcement originally appeared on Parade. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum made a huge announcement for fans on Tuesday, June 17. Wilson, 33, the sassy songstress behind such hits as "Things a Man Oughta Know," "Heart Like a Truck," "Watermelon Moonshine" and "Wildflowers and Wild Horses," is getting her very own exhibition at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. Lainey Wilson: Tough as Nails will trace Wilson's story "from her upbringing on her family's farm in Baskin, Louisiana, to her rise to global fame," according to the press release. The exhibit opens on July 18 and will run until June press release continues, "Wilson grew up in Baskin, Louisiana…riding horses and four-wheelers and swimming in nearby Big Creek with her older sister. Wilson envisioned a career as a country artist and started working to make it happen from a young age — singing publicly for the first time at her kindergarten graduation and writing songs for fun by the time she was 10. As a teenager, she learned how to handle herself in front of audiences through performances, pageants and local talent competitions. "In 2011, Wilson moved to Nashville. Her one connection to the country music business was Jerry Cupit, a family friend from Franklin Parish who became her producer, a songwriting partner and a mentor. His death in 2014 left Wilson's future in Nashville uncertain, but she refused to give up. In 2015, she met Mandelyn Monchick, who advocated for Wilson as a friend before officially becoming her manager and introduced Wilson to Aslan Freeman, now her bandleader." The exhibit will include stage wear, instruments, photographs, childhood memorabilia and more. Examples of items to be displayed include: The first tooled leather saddle Wilson used as a child. The Montana Silversmiths custom-made silver and gold belt buckle — engraved with the brand of her family's farm in Baskin, Louisiana, and ornamented with rhinestones — that Wilson wore to the Country Music Association Awards in 2022. Sixteen-year-old Wilson's journal, where she wrote, 'My dream is to become a country singer/songwriter. I know I can do it.' A program for Baskin School's kindergarten graduation listing Wilson's first public performance, when she sang 'Butterfly Kisses.' One of Wilson's first hats, given to her by a fellow musician who is also a hatmaker. A Go Vicki! fringed jacket belonging to Wilson's mother, which Wilson wore when she performed at Saddlebags, a country music venue in Savannah, Georgia, on February 9, 2018. A Wrangler trench coat, denim vest and jeans — all embellished with rhinestones — and the Charlie 1 Horse by Lainey Wilson hat she wore during her halftime performance at the NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. The floral-pattern shirt, Cat O' Nine studded bell bottoms and rhinestone-embellished Kippys belt Wilson wore during her debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry, February 14, 2020. The Dolce & Gabbana rawhide leather shirt and Alice + Olivia suede bell-bottoms Wilson wore during the photo shoot for her 2024 album, Whirlwind. The Norma Kamali-designed patchwork-pattern blazer and matching bell-bottoms Wilson wore when she made her first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, May 26, 2022. The Carolina Herrera-designed strapless satin bell-bottom jumpsuit with ruffled pant hems that Wilson wore on the red carpet at the CMA Awards in 2023."From a young age, Lainey Wilson had an unwavering vision and faith in herself,' said Kyle Young, chief executive officer of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, in a statement. 'This exhibit will examine the seeds of her career, including the requisite talent, hard work and ingenuity throughout her ten-year journey in Nashville that fueled her emergence as a globally popular and beloved artist. As her career has flourished, she continues to reflect these roots and core values in her music and life.' 'It's a dream come true to have my own exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and such an incredible honor to be included next to so many of my heroes and legendary artists,' added Wilson. 'These past few years have been a complete whirlwind, and it's going to be really amazing to see the whole journey captured in the exhibit, along with some special items from growing up in Louisiana. I can't wait to see how it turned out and for my family, friends and fans to check it out.' 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Country Music Hall of Fame Makes Huge Lainey Wilson Announcement first appeared on Parade on Jun 17, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 17, 2025, where it first appeared.

Legendary '90s Rocker Gets Candid About Departure From Band

Legendary '90s Rocker Gets Candid About Departure From Band originally appeared on Parade. After a whirlwind month of band drama—Zak Starkey, longtime drummer and son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr—is finally setting the record straight about where he stands with The Who. In a candid new interview with The Telegraph, Starkey, 59, says things took a turn following a rare live performance of "The Song Is Over" at the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit at London's Royal Albert Hall earlier this year. "What happened was I got it right and Roger got it wrong," Starkey said of the musical misstep, claiming that frontman Roger Daltrey came in a bar ahead of schedule during the song. Just a week later, Starkey says he got a call from The Who's longtime manager, Bill Curbishley, ousting him from the group. The alleged reason? "Roger says you dropped some beats," Starkey, who has drummed for both The Who and Oasis, recalls being told. But according to the musician, he's reviewed the tape and didn't hear those missing beats. "Then Pete [Townshend] had to go along with it because Pete's had 60 years of arguing with Roger," he added of the alleged incident. The drama with the band didn't stop there, however, with Starkey revealing that he briefly rejoined the group, but only after being pressured to accept blame for the onstage snafu—and spoiler alert, the reunion didn't last long. "It became clear Roger couldn't work with me," he shared. "I don't blame anyone. I blame The Who, because they're unpredictable, aggressive and f--king insane." Even still, Starkey isn't ruling out a return to the group, especially after he says Daltrey, 81, told him to keep his drums on standby. "Don't take your drums out of [The Who's] warehouse yet in case we need you," Starkey says Daltrey told him, with him urging the frontman to let him know should The Who have a change of heart. For now, drummer Scott Devours has taken over, as The Who gears up for their The Song Is Over farewell U.S. tour, kicking off August 16 in Sunrise, Florida. The tour will run through September 28, capping off in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
