Attempted murder charge for former Kiwi NRL and AFL player

Kiwi Shem Tatupu has reportedly been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
The former Hawthorn and Melbourne Storm's player was arrested by Victoria Police last month, 7 News reported.
It also reported the charge being linked to a family incident and that "the matter had already been in court".
The 29-year-old is due to appear in in Melbourne Magistrates' Court for a committal mention hearing in August, it reported.
Victoria Police did not share any details about the case, including when and where the alleged offences took place.
Tatupu spent most of his youth playing rugby. His father is Tony Tatupu, who was a star rugby league player in the Warriors.

Victoria police said a group of between five and six males armed with machetes were arguing inside the CS Square shopping centre in Caroline Springs about 6:40pm (8.40pm NZT) on Friday. The centre went into lockdown as police arrived and officers found the group had already fled the scene. No injuries have been reported and police say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on (+61) 1800 333 000 or online. The lockdown came after a dramatic pre-organised gang brawl involving machetes inside the Northland Shopping Centre in Preston forced its evacuation in May. Seven people have since been arrested and charged over the Preston incident. Following the incident, the Victorian government enacted a total sales ban on machetes on 28 May. However, the possession of a machete will not become prohibited until a legislated ban comes into effect on 1 September. The penalty for Victorians in possession of a machete will be a fine of more than AU$47,000 (NZ$51,000) or two years in jail. - ABC

Customs Arrests 19-year-old Passenger With 15 Kilograms Of Methamphetamine And Cocaine
Press Release – New Zealand Customs Service A 19-year-old Kiwi national has been arrested at Auckland International Airport after Customs officers found an estimated 15 kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine in his luggage. The passenger was referred for a baggage check after arriving on a flight from Los Angeles on Thursday 5 June. An examination of the suitcase identified 15 vacuum-sealed packets – 13 of which contained methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 13 kilograms. The remaining two packets were found to contain cocaine, with an estimated weight of two kilograms. Removing this amount of methamphetamine from the market has prevented up to NZ$13 million worth of social harm and cost, and if sold in retail amounts, it would be worth approximately NZ$3.9 million. The seized cocaine has prevented up to $747,160 worth of social harm and cost, and would have had a street value of approximately NZ$776,000. Customs Auckland Airport Manager, Paul Williams, says transnational criminal syndicates will prey on the young and vulnerable, but anyone caught up in this sort of crime faces the harshest penalties. 'Organised crime groups do not care how much life you have ahead of you. In this instance, a teenager is looking at life imprisonment for the importation and possession for supply of Class A drugs.' Mr Williams adds that Customs officers are trained and committed to blocking any attempt to get drugs or other harmful substances across our border, and the volume of record seizures at Auckland Airport already this year is testament to that.
