James Lowe in high spirits ahead of Northampton visit
This time last year James Lowe scored a hat-trick of tries for Leinster in their Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton. He fobbed off the feat, though, when he spoke with John O'Sullivan. 'I only ran about 12m,' he said. Besides, he was too busy paying tribute to team-mates, as only James Lowe can - eg: '
RG [Snyman], the big freak
. He's 6ft 8ins or taller, he runs like the wind and every time he gets the ball, everyone is looking for the offload because he doesn't want to die with it.'
Lowe is, then, in his usual flying form ahead of Leinster hosting Northampton for the second successive year in the last four of the competition,
Gerry Thornley bringing you the team news
. Surprisingly, the game at the Aviva Stadium is still not a sell-out, 'overpriced' tickets hardly helping.
In hurling,
Joe Canning gives his thoughts on last weekend's big two talking points
, Darragh McCarthy's sending off and Adam Hogan 'throwing himself to the ground' after being 'tipped on the arm' with a hurley. Let's just say, Joe was impressed by neither.
Louth football manager Ger Brennan wasn't too impressed either by
a club game being played before the Leinster semi-final
against Kildare last Sunday. 'We were like sardines,' he told Gordon Manning of the effort to cram his panel and backroom team in to the one dressing room. It should be roomier at Croke Park on Sunday when his side take on Meath in the final.

And Brian O'Connor brings the latest from the Punchestown festival, including a preview of Constitution Hill's efforts to '

The big winner on Thursday was Gordon Elliott's Teahupoo
when he retained his Stayers Hurdle title. Elliott revealed that he had dreamt the night before about the horse triumphing and Meath winning the Leinster Final. One down, one to go.

RG Snyman named URC Players' Player of the Year
Leinster's RG Snyman has been voted the BKT URC's Players' Player of the Season, capping off an impactful debut campaign at the province. The giant second row has been integral to Leinster's run to the semi-finals, playing 13 games and scoring two tries. A powerful ball-carrier at 6ft 9in, the lock's 40 offloads - second overall in the URC - highlights his ability as a dual threat in attack. The award, which is voted for by the captains and vice-captains of each team in the URC, has previously been won by Munster's Jack Crowley, Leinster's Dan Sheehan and Stormers' back row Evan Ross. Snyman, who has agreed a contract extension to remain at Leinster next season, joined the province last summer following four years at Munster, where a series of knee injuries, and a shoulder surgery after the World Cup in 2023, left him unable to make a significant impact at Thomond Park. The 30-year-old (below) has already played 20 games in all competitions for Leinster this season, matching his total from four years at Munster. Meanwhile, Zebre Parma's Massimo Brunello has been named Coach of the Season, with the award voted for by the league's head coaches. Brunello has transformed Zebre Parma this season, leading them to victories over Munster, Ospreys and Dragons at home, as well as famous away wins against Ulster and Edinburgh. Their away against Ulster ended a four-year wait for a victory on road, and was backed up the following week with another win away against Edinburgh. Previous winners of this award include Graham Rowntree last season, and Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith back in 2022/23.

Ronnie O'Sullivan announces surprise new career move after leaving UK
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Ronnie O'Sullivan has confirmed a surprising career move by launching his own YouTube channel. The seven-time world champion has been sporadic in choosing where and when he will play this season and has been vocal about his mental health when it comes to snooker. O'Sullivan pulled out of the Masters, which he was due to defend, and a string of other tournaments before returning to action, armed with a new cue, at the World Championship. Despite making the semi-finals, the Rocket cut a frustrated figure for the most part, complaining about both his form and equipment. He even took the drastic step of having the tip and ferrule replaced during his last-four defeat to eventual champion Zhao Xintong. After being crushed 17-7 by the Chinese superstar, the Rocket announced he intended to spend more time in the Middle East and said he planned to pick and choose which tournaments he enters. He has now engaged in another interest away from the table that he'll be able to fulfil wherever he goes by launching his own YouTube channel. With a link to a clip of his momentous 1000th professional century in the Players Championship final in 2019, O'Sullivan wrote on X: 'Finally gone and got a YouTube channel… I will be uploading all sorts here from some of my favourite shots and matches to me cooking to me meeting and chatting to some interesting people. Hope you guys enjoy it!!' However, upon visiting the channel, the only clip available was one of him hitting a 147 in practice while in Saudi Arabia before the World Championship. The 1000th century break clip appeared to have been removed. Still, the announcement went down well with many of his 564,000 X followers. One replied: 'Subbed already. Can't wait for more content. Good luck!' Another added: 'Good luck Ron, keep grafting & playing for as long as you can.' A third quipped: 'Ronnie O'Sullivan cooking must be Fast Food! Speaking after his World Championship exit, O'Sullivan explained his immediate plans, which involved getting away from the UK. 'I think I'm going to be moving out of the UK this year. A new life somewhere else," said the Essex potter, who has a snooker academy in his name in Saudi Arabia. 'I'll still try and play snooker but I don't know what the future looks like for me really. I'm moving away soon so I'll just see how it goes. There's a lot of more important things in life to worry about than a game of snooker. 'For me, it's a big part of my life, but I've got to try and figure out what my future looks like, whether it's playing or not. I'll be moving away to the Middle East but we'll see how it goes. I might be back in six months, who knows!" Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts.

‘I think it's a must' – Kilkenny icon offers TJ Reid advice ahead of Leinster final battle vs Galway
RICHIE Hogan has implored Kilkenny to keep on utilising TJ Reid strictly as a presence in the full-forward line. The ageing legend is 37 nowadays and while he 2 Fitness-obsessive Reid runs a gym for work 2 Hogan is also a former Hurler of the Year Credit: @offtheball His Previewing He did, however, settle on Reid being deployed at 14 as "a must". Hogan told Read More On GAA "Clearly he's not the same player he once was but he is still incredibly effective and I'd expect him to be incredibly effective again on Sunday. "I think the last couple of years I feel he was maybe trying to do too much. "Y'know he was trying to run to go inside then at times... "Whereas now he's on the square and that's his focus. Give him the ball and he'll put it over the bar. Most read in GAA Hurling "And he's already got four goals in three or four Championship games this year. "The one against Wexford - that's where you want him. Let the other guys do the hard work. RTE pundit Joe Canning urges GAA to make huge change for Leinster hurling final as fans 'totally agree' "It was the same story in last year's Leinster final. Two mistakes by the Dublin goalkeeper and it was two goals for TJ. "He doesn't need to be the star controlling the whole game. With TJ, Kilkenny just need to focus on impact rather than output." IN HIS OWN WORDS In April the man himself spoke at the outset of the Leinster Championship about He outlined: 'It's mind over matter. If you allow age to dictate your life, you're on a losing battlefield straight away. 'I never think of my age, I always think of how am I performing, how am I moving, how am I feeling, what's my mindset like, do I want this anymore? 'Do I want to be going training three or four nights a week? That's the big thing. If that want isn't there, that willingness isn't there, then that's the time to go. 'Most of those guys who are over 35, prolonging their career, they still have that willingness to give it everything. That's the big thing. 'You look at the likes of Maldini from AC Milan, Lebron, Ronaldo, Messi. "I look at all those top, top class players, they're still dedicating their life to it, and you have to. If you want to reach those barriers, you have to be willing to put in the effort. 'Most people think that psychologically you have to get older to reduce things, but you don't. The time you do reduce it, that's when you get left behind.'
