THE inaugural Gagasan Rumpun Selangor (GRS), a community-and-unity event by Selangor government, concluded with a royal visit to Gombak.
Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah visited the two-day programme in the district that wrapped up the initiative.
The visit involved engagement with local communities and exploration of the district's cultural and tourism spots, rich heritage and vibrant local life.
Selangor rural development, unity and consumers committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail said Tengku Amir Shah wanted to gain a better understanding of the cultural, heritage and attractions in each district.
'From visiting villages to towns, stalls to rice fields, from the land to the sea, riding boats to riding Vespas, all of these became beautiful memories for all of us.
'I am confident that all levels of society have been touched by this programme – from children and youths to the elderly, from local leaders to village entrepreneurs, various ethnic communities and not forgetting the
Orang Asli and persons with disabilities.
'All citizens share the 'Kita Selangor' (We are Selangor) spirit, which drives the unity and prosperity of the state,' he said.
Rizam said Tengku Amir Shah's perspectives on the programme would be captured in a coffeetable book, where his memories and experiences would be documented and shared.
GRS is an initiative aimed at strengthening unity and promoting cultural diversity among local communities.
Launched in late 2023, the programme was allocated RM4.5mil in the 2024 budget to be implemented across all nine districts of Selangor.
Key activities include unity carnivals, cultural tours, community sports, handicraft exhibitions, visits to tourism sites, as well as health and entrepreneurship programmes.

Siti Kasim: Maybe hard for PMX to gain immunity from Federal Court judging from Najib's precedent
THERE is already a precedent whereby the Federal Court had previously ruled against now incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be granted immunity from the extraordinary claim (civil suit) filed against the Malaysian Government by then Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua in January 2017. Premised on the common law tort of misfeasance in public office, the thrust of the claim was that Najib had committed misfeasance in public office in relation to the sovereign fund 1MDB. It was alleged that the then 10-term Pekan MP had abused his public office by personally benefitting from the receipt of monies from the 1MDB fund. Against such backdrop, human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim opined that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is liable for the civil suit on se*ual harassment filed against him by his former research assistant Yusoff Rawther four years ago. 'Recall that Pua lost his case at both the High Court and Appeal Court levels but the Federal Court ruled that Najib can be charged with misfeasance in public office given the PM or any minister for the matter are regarded as civil servants,' she recounted on her latest YouTube rant. 'Moreover, in my personal opinion a PM should not be exempted from any civil suit in his personal capacity … After all, the civil suit filed by Yusoff revolves around sexual assault on him prior to him having assumed his PM office.' Added the Orang Asli advocate: 'Going by the precedent set by Najib's case, Anwar can be sued on grounds that a PM doesn't enjoy immunity but it seems that Yusoff has to wait for a few more years before the hearing of his civil suit can materialise. 'He may now have to wait for the decision of the Federal Court on Anwar's immunity claim first … We can only pray that justice shall prevail for the righteous party.' PMX seeks immunity For context PMX had on yesterday (May 27) sought the Federal Court ruling if he should be granted immunity from the civil suit filed by Yusoff prior to him taking office on Nov 24, 2022. The 31-year-old grandson of the late Penang consumer advocate SM Mohamed Idris had filed his civil suit in July 2021 in which he alleged that Anwar had sexually assaulted him on Oct 2, 2018 at Anwar's residence in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. In his countersuit, Anwar claimed that Yusoff's allegation of sexual harassment against him is unfounded as he was entertaining his family and friends at his residence. The KL High Court last year fixed the trial to be heard from June 16 to 19 and June 23 to 25. However, Yusoff found himself charged in the KL High Court on Dec 5 last year here with trafficking in 305gm of cannabis in addition to having in his possession two imitation pistols to which he pleaded not guilty. Framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the drug charge which is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, provides life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 lashes upon conviction. 'Throughout his drug and pistol trial, Yusoff has incessantly claimed that he has been trapped and framed by people in the authority who holds grudges against him for his civil suit,' observed Siti Kasim. Siti Kasim dares Madani gov't to imitate PAP's 'MPs are slaves of the people, not their masters' benchmark
THE high standards demanded by the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) which has recently achieved a landslide victory in Singapore's 14th General Election of its MPs with the key emphasis being 'always uphold our reputation and integrity' should be emulated by the Madani government. Such is the opinion of Siti Kasim who is impressed with the tall order which is encapsulated in a 2,617-word letter entitled 'Rules of Prudence' penned by Singapore's fourth Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and addressed to all PAP MPs. For the record. PAP won 87 out of 97 seats in the just concluded national polls (it has won all general elections since Singapore's independence) which is Wong's first as PM and in his capacity as PAP's secretary-general. Overall, the PAP won 65.6% of the votes. 'That MPs have to be humble in victory by always remembering that as MPs they are servants of the people, not their masters really struck the chord insofar as Malaysian politics are concerned,' gestured the human rights activist and lawyer in her latest YouTube rant. 'Another secret formula which Wong let out of the bag that it's still not too late for the Madani government to look into is that PAP's reputation for clean, incorruptible government is one of its most precious assets that enables it to retain the trust of Singaporeans all these years (PAP has never lost an election).' Siti Kasim is further impressed by the exemplary behaviour demanded of PAP's MPs in that they should never abuse their political position to seek favours. 'He (Wong) warned MPs against lobbying any ministry or statutory board to make changes to decisions or policies that are not grounded on public interest … This very much brings to mind the 'Yes YB. Yes YB' attitude among our civil servants,' the Orang Asli advocate pointed out. 'Also worth heeding is the call to separate an MP's public political position from his/her private, professional or business interests.' In reminding PAP's MPs against exploiting their public position as government MPs, Wong has stressed that their conduct must always be above board by keeping at bay their close contacts with the ministers, access to government departments and civil servants when it comes to serving their personal interest or for the benefit of their employers. Against the backdrop of poor MP attendance which has occasionally prompted postponement of the Dewan Rakyat proceedings, Siti Kasim also agreed with Wong that 'all MPs are expected to attend all sittings of Parliament'. 'Please inform the whip if you have to leave the Parliament premises while a sitting is on. If you have to be absent from any sitting, seek permission from the government whip and apply for leave of absence from the speaker with copies to the leader of the house and the government whip,' Wong had penned in his letter. 'If you travel abroad, you should also inform the whip where you can be reached while abroad.' To sum up, Siti Kasim described Wong's letter as 'a vivid example of good governance'. He demanded that PAP MPs should speak their mind frankly whether for or against government policies but must be backed by adequate facts and reasons. It's a rarity for Malaysian MPs from the government bloc to go against a tabled government policy in line with the toe-the-line spirit or likewise brushed aside views from the position even if they are truly constructive. Also worth mentioning is the notion of accepting gifts whereby MPs must declare all gifts, (other than personal gifts from close friends or relatives) to the Parliament clerk who will have the gifts valued. If they wish to keep the gifts, they must pay the Singaporean government for them at the valuation price. – June 1, 2025
