Russia proposes date, venue for peace talks with Ukraine; expects reply
The head of Russia's delegation for peace talks with Ukraine, Vladimir Medinsky, stated on Wednesday that he had sent proposals to Ukraine with dates and venues where the two sides could engage and agree to a ceasefire.
Medinsky said on the Telegram messaging app that he had called Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on Wednesday with proposals for the date and venue of the next meeting.

"Let me emphasise: right there, on the spot, we are ready to begin an essential, substantive discussion of each of the points of the package agreement on a possible ceasefire," he said.

Medinsky said he expected a reply from Ukraine and that Russia's delegation was ready to meet its Ukrainian counterparts face-to-face in the coming days.
Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that during the next round of peace talks, both countries would prepare their vision of the 'modalities of settlement and ceasefire,' and would discuss the same.
US President Donald Trump, who has pushed for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, recently rebuked President Vladimir Putin for stalling efforts to finalise a peace agreement, amid continuous military action.
The two countries are under pressure from the US President to end the bloodiest conflict, after their delegations met earlier this month in Istanbul, but failed to reach an agreement.
In a post on TruthSocial on Tuesday, Trump said, 'What Vladimir Putin doesn't realize is that if it weren't for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He's playing with fire!'
Trump's comments come amid some of the biggest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine since Russia's full-scale war began in early 2022. The US President has also indicated that he is considering additional sanctions against the country.

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) carried out the mission using first-person-view (FPV) drones that struck 41 Russian heavy bombers and other warplanes. Russia had originally designed the doomsday bombers to destroy the atomic weapons of the United States and Europe in case an all-out war broke out. According to Ukraine, the aircraft was converted and was being used to pummel Kyiv with cruise missiles. According to the reports, Ukraine destroyed Russia's TU-95 'Bear" nuclear bombers, TU-22 'Backfire" fast-attack bombers and A-50 'Mainstay" command-and-control jets in the strike. One of the bases struck was in Siberia's Irkutsk region. Other places targeted included Murmansk in the Arctic Circle, Ryazan southeast of Moscow, and Ivanovo, which is to the northeast of Moscow. 16 Mexican migrants detained near San Diego in third major boat interception in months

The overcrowded boat was first spotted by a Coast Guard lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft about 54 miles off the coast of Point Loma near San Diego. A cutter was dispatched and the vessel, Petrel, stopped the sailboat and took the migrants into custody, according to a Coast Guard press release issued Sunday. All of those on board said they were from Mexico. The Coast Guard has increased efforts to intercept migrant vessels following US President Donald Trump 's promise to deport illegal immigrants in the US. This latest interception comes after similar incidents in recent months. Earlier this month, a 'panga-style' boat carrying Russian nationals and migrants from the Dominican Republic was stopped about three miles off the coast of Puerto Rico. In February, a 30-foot sailboat packed with 132 Haitian migrants, including women and children, was intercepted about 50 miles off the Florida coast. One of the largest recent interceptions happened last year, when over 300 Haitian migrants were stopped near the Bahamas and sent back home.
