A FORMER Manchester United hot prospect was forced into "torturous" training sessions in a bid to make him quit his club.
But amid the brutal regime, he was driven on by a supportive coach urging him: "Don't let them break you".

Midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe is the player at the centre of the amazing claims Down Under.
He was at Old Trafford from 2009-2014, featuring alongside future heroes like Paul Pogba and earning England caps at Under-16 and U-17 level.
Tunnicliffe, now 32, went on to have decent spells with Fulham, Millwall, Luton and Portsmouth.
But a move to Australian team Adelaide United on a two-year deal in 2023 went less than smoothly.

And Tunnicliffe's troubles peaked when the club's technical director Ernest Faber wanted him out - according to 7NEWS Adelaide.
The Australian broadcaster revealed whistleblowing claims by former assistant Travis Dodd.
The former Adelaide player, 45, suggested that ex-coach Carl Veart was undermined by Faber last season.
Dodd reckoned Faber asked players to pick the team without telling Veart.

And it's reckoned Tunnicliffe was caught up in the situation.
He only played four minutes last season before departing in May - with Veart also leaving after five years in charge, as well as Dodd.

And it's alleged Tunnicliffe faced a bizarre ordeal as he struggled for game time.
7News Adelaide reported that Faber "forced unwanted import Ryan Tunnicliffe to train on his own, putting him through torturous running sessions in the hope he would quit the club".
Dodd told the TV channel: "I said, 'Mate, don't let them break you'. He goes, 'I can do it'.
"And, credit to him, for two weeks he rocked up when he was asked to rock up, did what he was asked to do, and seemingly Ernest (Faber) had had enough after two weeks and let him rejoin the first-team squad."
Former Adelaide player Josh Cavallo alleged on the 7News Facebook comment section that he too suffered because of Faber.
The ex-Socceroos U-20 ace, 25, claimed Veart was "under clear instructions by the people above him" not to pick him.

But they are not the first English club to be linked with the Japan international, who will be keen to get first-team football with next year's World Cup on the horizon. The report from Sponichi Annex claims several European clubs are interested in his services, but that Birmingham are leading the chase for his signature as they look to return to the Premier League. It is also claimed that Kyogo himself is said to be positive about the transfer. Having been frozen out at Rennes, playing just six games since signing for the French club in January, Kyogo was linked with a move to Bournemouth last month by French outlet Le Parisien. And he has also been linked with a return to Celtic but that move looks unlikely to happen. The striker still has two years left on his deal at the Ligue 1 side with manager Habib Beye insisting the former Celtic hero is still part of his plans. He said: "Even if he doesn't get the minutes he would like, he is an integral part of my squad. "Kyogo's lack of playing time doesn't mean he doesn't meet my expectations, otherwise he wouldn't be in the squad and he wouldn't come on as a sub. "He's a quality player and he will bring something to the team, I'm convinced of that." Thomas Frank facing major dilemma over Tottenham players' futures including Son Heung-min and £60m Richarlison

Spurs offered £70m for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January and the England man would likely be a target again. One who may benefit either way is Radu Dragusin, who met Frank this week along with the club's other injured players. The Romanian, 23, damaged knee ligaments in February and never seemed to fit into Ange Postecoglou's style. But Frank has a history of getting the best out of no-nonsense centre-backs. Sergio Reguilon is out on a free transfer, leaving Spurs with only three recognised full-backs — if you do not count the versatile Ben Davies. So another is likely to be required. MIDFIELD FRANK spoke of trying to get the best out of James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur, so both seem to be part of his plans. Spurs hope to tie down the Uruguayan to a new contract with only a year left. But if that does not happen an exit would not be ruled out amid interest from Atletico. Yves Bissouma also has only 12 months remaining and a few weeks ago fans would have expected the Malian, 28, to be sold given how far down the pecking order he fell under Postecoglou. But he played a pivotal role in the Europa League win over Manchester United and, with Frank often favouring two holding midfielders, his future is harder to call. Spurs want the Dane to develop their young talent, including teenagers Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. But another holding midfielder, perhaps with more experience, could be on Frank's shopping list. ATTACK 6 Frank is excited to work with Dominic Solanke Credit: Alamy 'DOMINIC SOLANKE, I'm a big fan of him in terms of his abilities. I'm sure we'll make him score a lot of goals.' So said Frank of Spurs' £65m striker, who was always going to be central to his approach. But who backs up the England man and plays wide? Spurs have been open to selling Richarlison, 28, for a while now but, with his injury record and two years left on his deal, they might struggle to get an offer for the Brazilian that they will find acceptable. There is serious interest in Bryan Mbeumo, 25, who scored 20 Prem goals for Frank's Brentford last term — but Manchester United are also keen. Mathys Tel, 20, has signed permanently after his spell on loan from Bayern Munich but another speedy wideman may be targeted given how Frank likes his teams to break at pace. Then there is captain Son Heung-min, who is open to leaving after marking ten years at the club by lifting a trophy. Son turns 33 next month, is wanted by Saudi clubs, as well as former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce and also has only a year left on his contract. But his unique commercial value means Spurs will not let him go on the cheap — and almost certainly not until after the club's tour to South Korea at the start of August.
