Former Brazil coach Dorival Júnior taking over Corinthians to the end of 2026

SAO PAULO (AP) — Former Brazil coach Dorival Júnior signed with Corinthians on Monday to the end of 2026.
It is his first job since he was fired by the five-time World Cup champion in March after losing to Argentina 4-1 in 2026 qualifying.
Júnior's first match in charge of Corinthians will be on Wednesday in the Brazilian Cup against Novorizontino.
'It is an important moment of my career. I hope to leave a legacy,' Júnior said in a video shared by Corinthians on social media.
He takes over from Argentine coach Ramón Diaz, who was fired this month. The team including Dutch striker Memphis Depay has defense problems.
Corinthians is 12th in the Brazilian league after six matches, with seven points. It lost in the league on Sunday to Flamengo 4-0.
Júnior was fired from Brazil after 14 months amid poor results and disappointing performances.
Brazil, fourth in South American qualifying, has yet to announce Júnior's replacement. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and Al-Hilal's Jorge Jesus are the front-runners according to local media.

Report – Inter Milan Could Send Argentina Wonderkid On Loan To Parma After Injury Nightmare

Report – Inter Milan Could Send Argentina Wonderkid On Loan To Parma After Injury Nightmare Inter Milan could send attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni on loan to Parma next season after his long injury layoff. This according to today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Inter Milan loaned attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni to Marseille last summer. The Argentine had spent the previous season on loan with Monza. That had been his first campaign in senior football. After showing significant promise at Mozna, Carboni went to Marseille with big expectations. Reportedly, the French club had a purchase option in the then-19-year-old worth over €40 million. And for their part, Inter had a buyback. That is a reflection of how highly both clubs rated Carboni's potential. Inter Could Loan Valentin Carboni To Parma FROSINONE, ITALY – JANUARY 06: Valentin Carboni of AC Monza celebrates after scoring goal 0-2 during the Serie A TIM match between Frosinone Calcio and AC Monza at Stadio Benito Stirpe on January 06, 2024 in Frosinone, Italy. (Photo by) However, Carboni suffered an ACL tear while in training with the Argentina national team in October. Advertisement That brought the young attacking midfielder's momentum to a screeching halt. Therefore, Carboni has spent the past several months recovering from that horror injury. And now, the Argentine is nearly ready to return. Reportedly, he will be in Inter's squad for the Club World Cup this summer. Meanwhile, Inter must make a decision about Carboni's future. And another loan deal would certainly be a possibility. According to Tuttosport, one idea would be a loan to Parma. The Nerazzurri are certainly eyeing several of the Gialloblu's players up, as they are set to appoint Cristian Chivu as coach. Therefore, Tuttosport report, there would be a possibility of Carboni's name coming up in negotiations.

Arsenal defender Gabriel signs new contract extension

LONDON (AP) — Arsenal center back Gabriel Magalhaes signed a new long-term deal Friday that will reportedly keep the Brazil international at the club until 2029. Gabriel missed the last two months of the season with a hamstring injury but has formed a formidable partnership with France international William Saliba to anchor an Arsenal defense that has been the best in the Premier League. 'I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I'm so happy and I've learned a lot,' Gabriel said. 'I'm so proud of myself, it's an amazing journey, and I'm so happy to continue it.' The 27-year-old defender joined the Gunners in 2020 from French club Lille and has played 210 games in all competitions. He has scored 20 goals for Arsenal, becoming a major threat at corners and other set pieces. Gabriel was handed an extension even though his previous contract did not expire until 2027, signaling his importance to coach Mikel Arteta. Arsenal did not confirm the length of the contract, but British media reported it was a four-year deal. With Gabriel in the defensive line, Arsenal conceded the fewest goals in the last two seasons in the Premier League. The deal comes after Arsenal finished second in the English league for the third straight year. ___ AP soccer:
