Holiday goers rush to nab £1.70 Shein buy that means you can scroll on your phone for HOURS without it overheating

The Sun21-05-2025

AS much as we love to soak up glorious sunshine, spending hours in the sun can also cause your phone to overheat.
Luckily, holiday goers have spotted a clever buy that means you can scroll on social media without damaging the device.

While many of us may not pay too much attention to our phones, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the device to overheat.
This is because the metal and glass on the phone absorb heat quickly, and on a sunny day, this can lead to a rapid increase in the phone's internal temperature.
Overheating, in turn, can cause glitches, freezing, and even total malfunctions, experts warned.
But if you need to catch up on all the latest events around the world - or want to tune in your favourite reality series by the pool - there is a solution.
The savvy gadget was recently discovered by one woman, Gianna Hulsen, who dubbed it a ''life-saver''.
In a now-viral video, which has racked up an astronomical 10.1million views, Gianna revealed she was using a special ''phone umbrella''.
While the holiday goer didn't reveal where she had purchased the clever gadget, online shoppers can find it on Shein and Temu for as little as £1.70.
The purse-friendly bargain, also available on Amazon for around £4, features a suction cap which you attach to the back of your phone.
Once the cup is in place, simply place the miniature umbrella - and voila, you can enjoy careless scrolling without having to worry about those harsh sunrays.
Raving about the affordable buy, Gianna said: ''I'm not kidding when I say this was the best purchase for tanning.
Primark drops brand new collection of bikinis in gingham, floral and colour block designs - and they'll set you back just £2.50 per piece
''It is a life-saver!'' she wrote in the caption of the video, which has since taken the internet by storm.
'I've been influenced once again!'
The short clip has clearly impressed - and influenced - many, as it's won more than 250k likes and over 15k shares.
How to save money on summer essentials
SUNNIER days and warmer weather will leave many of us wanting to kit out gardens and outdoor areas.
Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to get a great deal on summer essentials…
It pays to know how to bag big savings on the likes of hot tubs paddling pools, egg chairs and outside bars.
Many retailers have flash sales across entire ranges – often this ties into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends.
Sign up to the mailing lists of your favourite brands and you'll be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
Keep a close eye on the specialbuys at Aldi and middle of Lidl drops which drop a couple of times a week and usually mean great value seasonal items such as beach gear and paddling pools.
If you are not in a hurry to buy an item, try adding it to the shopping cart and leaving it for a couple of days.
Sometimes big brands will try to tempt you into the sale by offering you a discount.
Always check if you can get cashback before paying. It's especially worth using sites such as Topcashback, Quidco and app Jamdoughnut when buying bigger ticket items such as garden furniture as you'll get a nice kickback.
A staggering 316 social media users flooded to comments, where many were singing praises of the budget buy.
One person said: ''100 percent- got mine at TJ.
''Ridiculous purchase at the time turned into a damn that's brilliant situation at the beach real quick.''
Another chimed in: ''Watching this while tanning and literally thinking ab how I need this.''
''wait i need that for my kindle,'' someone else penned.
''I've been influenced once again!'' a fourth was rushing to purchase the summer must-have.

The power from thousands of UK car drivers is now in your hands

I received an interesting E-mail from a reader last week, following up on a recent long-term report on the single-motor Volvo EC40 I'm currently driving. It turns out that our reader, a keen petrolhead called Derek Dunthorne, is running the twin-motor version of the Volvo EC40, and although it's in a different specification to mine and something of an upgrade, we share many similar opinions. Advertisement - Article continues below Derek loves the interior, telling me that the 'Android-based interface is brilliant – easy to use and completely logical – although, like most folk, I would prefer knobs for the heating and ventilation'. He also gave me some background information on his buying decision. Moving away from several Porsche Macans, this would be his – wait for it – 56th car. What particularly impressed him was Volvo's interior quality and finish; they're not quite at Porsche standards, in his opinion, but better than the Korean alternatives. He initially considered the smaller and newer EX30, but found he preferred the more conventional driver displays of the EC40, which is something I happen to agree with. It also turns out that we are even getting the same miles per kWh. But the really interesting information from Derek was beyond even what our long-term reports can offer. It transpires that he bought the car at six months old with 1,800 miles on the clock for a discount of 33 per cent on the new price and a three per cent PCP (to hedge against depreciation). He was impressed with Volvo's used car 30-day exchange policy, and as it transpired that was a good choice, because he actually ended up using it. Unhappy with his first car for a number of reasons, he returned it and the company refunded his money and allowed him to choose another, which he now loves. In terms of running costs, his are a fraction of mine. He uses the Octopus Energy Intelligent Go tariff that enables him to charge overnight for 7.0p per kWh. This means he has spent around £120 on electricity in 12 months and about 4,000 miles. Like many, he has never needed to use public charging, with all his journeys having been no longer than the 200 miles that the Volvo can comfortably complete. In the digital era, we often hear about information overload, but Derek's E-mail and the context of his purchase and ongoing experience really brought home the power of information for car buyers. Which is what our annual Driver Power satisfaction survey is all about: real-world experiences from real-world drivers. You can read the 2025 results next week, but in the meantime 'be more Derek'. Fill in the latest survey that will contribute to next year's results, because there is clearly no such thing as too much information when it comes to changing cars. We need all the help we can get, from experts and those living with the cars we're considering. Buy a car with Auto Express. Our nationwide dealer network has some fantastic cars on offer right now with new, used and leasing deals to choose from...

Rita Ora puts on a VERY cheeky display in hot pants and tiny bikini as she teases her upcoming single

Rita Ora put on a very cheeky display in tiny hot pants as she continued to tease her upcoming single with a saucy Instagram post on Wednesday. The singer, 34, made sure all eyes were on her as she posed up a storm in the tiny shorts that she paired with a hot pink bikini. Rita layered a white strappy body suit over her diamante swimwear and added inches to her physique with a pair of strappy heeled sandals. To accessorise, the songstress wore a pair of large white Pucci sunglasses and colourful hoop earrings. Alongside her snaps, she penned: 'HEAT MUSIC VIDEO OUT FRIDAY. Join the YouTube premiere at 5PM BST. it's gonna get hoootttt' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Heat is expected to feature on her upcoming, still untitled, fourth album, which will be her first album release since her 2023 You & I. Rita has recently been supporting Kylie Minogue for the first leg of her tour after she previously revealed that Kylie's 2023 mega-hit from Tension, Padam Padam, was nearly given to her. The synth-pop banger - penned by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen and producer Lostboy - was a viral hit for Kylie. But several artists were asked if they wanted to record it, including the Anywhere singer, because they didn't feel it was a Kylie song. Lostboy told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'We wrote Padam in February 2022 and there were maybe four or five months of us sitting on it, then I sent it to their label, and someone suggested to me, "Kylie would kill this."' He added: 'They were unsure and there was a moment when Rita was going to cut it and it was worming around a few artists on that label. 'They were trying to make it work but they didn't think it was for Kylie.' It comes after she kicked off her support gig on the tour in April at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Rita gushed after her gig: 'First night of the tour, wow the reception was incredible and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to connect with North America. It feels like such a huge compliment to open up for such an icon.' Kylie's Tension Tour will conclude on August 26. She will then head to New York for two shows at Madison Square Garden before stopping for one show at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The star is the highest-selling Australian female artist of all time and the third best-selling in the UK. But she has only now begun to make a name for herself in the US following the success of her viral 2023 hit Padam Padam. In the past Kylie has claimed her failure to catch on stateside didn't phase her and she enjoyed her anonymity there, however, her record label revealed in 2023 that the singer now has her eyes firmly set on cracking the US market.

Dublin restaurant awarded best pizza in Ireland for third year running

Little Pyg, based in the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre in Dublin, has been crowned Ireland's top pizza for the third year in a row at the Top 50 Pizza Europe Awards in Madrid. The awards, held on Wednesday, June 4th, also ranked Little Pyg as the 16th best pizza in Europe, meaning it qualifies for the World Pizza Championship in Naples in September. Advertisement The awards are widely considered the gold standard in European pizza excellence, and are curated by Italian food critics Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere. Over 2,000 anonymous inspectors assess restaurants across the continent to pick the winners. The Top 50 Pizza Awards were launched in Italy in 2017 and have grown every year since. Each year, the organisation's team of inspectors visit thousands of venues anonymously, assessing everything from dough quality and ingredient sourcing to service, innovation and overall experience. Advertisement The final rankings are then revealed at a live awards ceremony, bringing together all those who qualified. Little Pyg is the only Irish restaurant to earn a place on the list three years in a row. Speaking from Madrid, owner Paul McGlade Jnr said that he is very proud of Federico Rapali, Little Pyg's head chef, who McGlade says is 'regarded as one of the best pizzaiolos in the world,' and of the entire team at Little Pyg. 'This recognition means everything. It is a reflection of relentless passion, long hours and the belief that great pizza can bring people together. What started as a dream has grown into something far greater than I ever imagined. Here's to tradition, innovation, and never settling for anything less than excellence,' Rapali said.
