When it comes to footwear, few brands are as iconic as the German company Birkenstock. They have become a staple for many and can be dressed up or down to suit most occasions. This summer, celebrating its rich archive, Birkenstock has launched a new version of the timeless three-strap Florida sandal. Originally designed by Karl Birkenstock in 1981, this latest offering remains true to its heritage by combining craftsmanship with functionality. In addition to being unisex, the Birkenstock Florida offers a new silhouette that's both contemporary and classic, and is available in fresh colorways, featuring nubuck leather and vegan alternatives.
Birkenstock sales are rising due to strong customer demand, and according to WWD, the company posted second-quarter double-digit revenue growth across operating regions. Birkenstock stated that sales in this quarter were helped by double-digit unit growth and a mid-single-digit growth in ASP (average selling price). They also noted that sales of their clogs (closed-toe shoes), which grew at more than twice the pace of the group average in the first quarter, continued to outpace the strong double-digit growth of sandals. Tariff uncertainty, however, is likely to lead to higher prices, but the CEO of Birkenstock, Oliver Reichert, stated that they will navigate these uncertain times from a position of strength.
'We expect that the tariff situation may create a unique shift in consumer behavior in the footwear category with a split between the few brands, like Birkenstock, who manage strong brand equity through relative scarcity and those who distribute their products with less discipline and pricing integrity,' said Reichert.
In recent years, the Florida style has been available as a limited-edition shoe from Birkenstock's premium line '1774', named after the year the company was founded. The style has been reinterpreted in unexpected materials, including pastel-colored suede, embossed leather, faux snakeskin, and transparent PVC.

Unlike the two-strap Arizona, the Florida is characterized by having an elegant three-strap shape. For Spring/Summer 2025, it will become a permanent part of the Birkenstock collection, available in shades such as Pure Sage and Sandcastle, which are ideal for the summer season. Options of the Florida sandal include leather, Birki-Flor (a durable synthetic material used by Birkenstock as an alternative to leather), and Flex Vegan materials in various colors. To round off the broad offering, a bold Papillio Florida Platform in lightweight EVA material adds a playful and youthful touch, bringing an edge to the existing lineup. There is also a premium version of this shoe: the Florida Exquisite, adorned with the newly introduced half-moon-shaped D-buckle in gold and sporting fully leather-lined footbeds.
At its core, drawing on over 250 years of shoemaking expertise, Birkenstock remains rooted in refined craftsmanship and lasting functionality, with an anatomically shaped footbed that is the hallmark of the brand, providing comfort for all-day wear. Their new Florida style offers a fresh aesthetic, adding to a footwear family that has become so popular that it is now, for many, an integral part of everyday life.
For alternative summer shoe options, Spring/Summer 2025 offers a variety of styles that will keep your feet looking stylish throughout the season. On the catwalk, we saw a diverse range, including clogs, flip-flops, and pumps in various shapes and finishes, from classic to quirky, catering to all tastes.
For ultimate comfort, flip-flops and sliders are an obvious choice. As high-end designers reinvent this classic footwear, they're no longer restricted to poolside attire, and if styled correctly, they're welcomed into the urban landscape. This summer, luxury brands such as The Row, Miu Miu, Versace, and Dior have all released different versions of the humble flip-flop with various heel heights.

Highlights at Chloe's runway collection included flip-flop-style jelly shoes, wedge sandals, and peep-toe pumps—some flat and some with a kitten heel, featuring thin straps that extend up the ankle. Fendi's offerings included low mules, leather slides and embellished thongs (some with delicate floral detailing). Chanel showcased stylish platform sandals, and Gucci's slides presented logos, including the interlocking G slide sandal and the slide sandal with a horsebit, in a rendition of the nineties logomania trend.

Ballet shoes have continued to inspire designers this season. On the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2025, we saw ballet pumps in various finishes, which have become a firm favorite due to their comfort and versatility. This slimmer silhouette is also evident across various men's summer shoes, including trainers.
Some ballet pump designs, like the original ballet shoe, are flat and made of satin, evoking a chic dance aesthetic. Other versions, however, include heels, open-toe and lace-up ribbon ties. Brands such as Burberry, Toteme, and Proenza Schouler featured ankle ties in their Spring/Summer 2025 sandals.
Ferragamo's lace-up ballet shoes, their satin-trimmed leather pumps and heeled sandal versions in particular, have caught the eye of many fashion editors and been dubbed by some the "it shoe" of the season for their versatility and comfort.
Clogs (closed and open-toe) were also heavily featured at many design houses this summer, including at Chloe (with platforms), Hermès, Miu Miu, and Zimmermann. These are essentially a unisex bohemian shoe style rooted in comfort, with a rigid sole made of wood, cork and other materials.
The Italian brand Scholl has been a pioneer in this sector since its inception in 1899, and has revamped the collection this season with new styles. The Pescura, first introduced in 1956, is now available in new finishes and features in various heel heights. This shoe is handmade by an artisanal, family-owned Italian business, showcasing a passion for craftsmanship, the use of high-quality materials, and a dedication to providing enduring, genuine comfort.
Scholl has also collaborated with Balenciaga to produce a collection of heels, as well as clogs and sandals in various styles for both men and women, along with some pool sliders.

Like Birkenstock, Scholl shoes are orthopedic, meaning they are committed to crafting footwear that not only complements various lifestyles but also promotes foot health. Their unique designs have stood the test of time, and with the current aesthetic shift we are experiencing towards individuality and wellness, it would seem that they're very much in vogue and here to stay.

Vespa's 1950s Microcar Was Just As Cute as Its Scooters
Get The Drive's daily newsletter The latest car news, reviews, and features. Email address Sign Up Thank you! Terms of Service & Privacy Policy. Let's face it: cute is gonna cute. I mean, a mini Mini is a thing, so, of course, a cuter Vespa would exist. And this time, no chop shops are involved. In fact, this adorbs Vespa has four wheels and is French. According to Below the Radar, the manufacturer now known for scooters also built a teeny transporter from 1957 to 1961. With a 393cc two-stroke two-cylinder engine mounted in the rear, the Vespa 400 was smaller than its counterparts from Fiat and Mini. Measuring just 113 inches in length, the Vespa 400 was five inches shorter than the Fiat 500, which debuted the same year, and took up eight fewer inches than the incoming Mini Cooper that would launch in 1959. Other specs include 14 horsepower and a top speed of about 50 mph. Equipped with a three-speed manual, zero to 40 mph took a leisurely 23 seconds. Utilizing less than 9.5 feet of street space, understandably, there was only room for two occupants. Despite the rear engine, the Vespa 400 had no frunk. That space was actually where your feet would go. Vespa left no space to waste in its already tight-quartered 400. Ingress and egress were made easy via rear-hinged doors. Have luggage? There was a small area behind the two seats for that purpose. Have a kid? A small cushion could be fitted in between the seats to create a temporary bench. Have more than one kid? Hmm, how do I put this? You purchased the wrong vehicle. As the story goes, the Vespa 400 was manufactured out of a factory in Fourchambault, France, to take advantage of the market's growing affinity for microcars. Or perhaps because Fiat was going to have a fit and launch a competing cutesy scooter. Italian tit for tats aside, the Vespa 400 sold well during its first run out the gate with more than 12,000 sold, but sales slid in the following years. Mostly left-hand drive, the Vespa microcar was sold throughout Europe, with about 1,700 actually finding their way stateside. When the Vespa 400 was finally imported to the UK, a vehicle review at the time offered positive remarks. 'Helped by the well-sprung seats, ride comfort is unusually good for such a small car…There is little to distinguish the Vespa from a normal family car, apart from its size,' wrote The Motor, as shared by Below the Radar. That 1959 Vespa 400 cost 351,725 French francs or 255 British pounds. Bring a Trailer Unfortunately, not many have survived, but shiny side up examples can be found, like this one listed on Bring a Trailer which put the car back on our radar today. This little red number with a matching red and tan patterned interior has been an Arizona resident since the late 1960s and underwent a refurbishment in 2015. The speedometer has been replaced, so its true mileage is unknown, but it's a fact that the Vespa 400 is super cute with those 10-inch polished steelies. Offered at no reserve. The vehicle was purchased less than a year ago, selling for $21,023. However, with only a day to go, the current high bid is just $9,000. Champions League trophy has been out of reach for PSG. That could be about to change
MUNICH (AP) — Billions of dollars have been spent. Some of the world's greatest players have come and gone . Yet the Champions League trophy has remained agonizingly out of reach for Paris Saint-Germain. That could be about to change. The Qatari-owned team is one game away from European club soccer's most prestigious prize, with Inter Milan standing in the way in Saturday's final in Munich. 'The motivation for me is to win the Champions League title for the first time for PSG,' coach Luis Enrique said on Friday. 'That is the gift I want to give the people, the club, the city.' PSG is the favorite, with a thrilling young team that has produced stunning performances to get past Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. It feels like its time has finally come. But Inter is a wily opponent that is in its second final in three seasons and cut down a rampant Barcelona in an epic semifinal — winning 7-6 on aggregate. 'Our opponent, we hold the utmost respect for,' Inter captain Lautaro Martinez said. 'But with the weapons we've got, we want to hit them where it hurts.' The warning signs are there for PSG. A shift in strategy PSG's run to the final has justified a shift in direction from the bling culture of superstar signings to focus more on young French talent. Owned by Qatar Sports Investments since 2011, PSG signed some of the biggest names in soccer including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kylian Mbappe , Neymar and Lionel Messi without ever getting its hands on the trophy it craves most of all. Messi, Neymar and Mbappe have all gone, and without those iconic figures PSG looks a more complete team. 'It's about being a team, not a group of individuals,' PSG captain Marquinhos said. 'I'm in love with this team. It's a delight to be part of the squad.' PSG's transformation has still come at some cost. Players like Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were signed for an estimated $240 million combined in a squad assembled at spectacular expense. Meanwhile, Inter has been savvy in the market — signing older players and picking up free agents to put together a team that has reached two Champions League finals in three years — losing to Man City in 2023 — and won one Italian title in that time. Near misses PSG's only previous final was in 2020, a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich. It was a semifinalist in 2021 and 2024. Elimination in the round of 16 in 2022 and 2023 preceded the decision by president Nasser Al Khelaifi to change his transfer strategy. This year is only the second time since 2011 that three-time champion Inter has advanced beyond the round of 16. Inter last won the Champions League in 2010 under Jose Mourinho. Star players Dembele has been one of the outstanding players in Europe this season with 30 goals in all competitions for PSG, including a run of 24 in 18 games from December to March. Kvaratskhelia was signed from Napoli in January and sparked a turnaround in PSG's fortunes in the Champions League when it looked in danger of being eliminated at the league stage. The Georgian forward was long considered one of the brightest talents in Europe before making the move and has added another dimension to an-already thrilling PSG attack. Midfielders Vitinha and Joao Neves are the engine room, hungrily hunting down the ball when out of possession and springing attacks with the speed of their passing. World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez is Inter's standout player and became the club's all-time leading scorer in the Champions League this season. 'I've won big trophies but I'm missing the Champions League. I'm happy to be in another final. We want to have the perfect game and bring the trophy back to Milan,' the Argentine forward said. Defender Denzel Dumfries played a huge role in beating Barcelona with two goals in the first leg at the Nou Camp and goalkeeper Yann Sommer pulled off a string of saves to keep Inter in the tie in the second leg. The coaches A Champions League winner with Barcelona in 2015, Luis Enrique has won 12 major trophies in spells with the Catalan club and PSG. If French champion PSG triumphs on Saturday he would become the seventh coach to win the Champions League or European Cup with two different teams. The list includes Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Mourinho. Victory would come 10 years after his previous title. 'I have peace of mind. I've got 10 years more experience since the last time,' Luis Enrique said. 'It's a wonderful opportunity to play in a final and make history.' Inter's Simone Inzaghi is hoping to win his first Champions League title at the second time of asking after defeat to City two years ago. Then, as now, Inter was the underdog, and came close to upsetting Guardiola's all-conquering City. 'Matches don't come down to wage bills or turnover, it's the players on the pitch,' Inzaghi said. 'We were huge underdogs two years ago and went toe to toe. 'I dreamt of playing the Champions League final. I didn't do it as a player, but thanks to this group of players I've been in two finals as a head coach.' Inzaghi cannot match Enrique's trophy count but has impressed at Inter where he won Serie A last year beside two Italian Cups, his third overall. Only a week ago, Inter surrendered the Serie A title by one point. ___ James Robson is at ___ AP soccer:
