Bruno Fernandes is so ‘football sick' his Man Utd team-mates spotted him watching obscure Polish match on train platform

The Sun20-05-2025

BRUNO FERNANDES watches so much football that he's been accused of being sickeningly obsessed with it.
The Manchester United star was recently caught watching a random Polish match while waiting for a train with his team-mates.

Fernandes ' former Red Devils and Portugal team-mate Juan Mata called the soon to be 31-year-old midfielder "football sick".
According to The Telegraph, United players spotted their captain glued to a screen while they waited on platform for a train last month.
The squad soon saw that Fernandes was watching an obscure match from Poland's Ekstraklasa while travelling to an away game.
No outfield player across Europe's top five leagues has made more appearances (288) or played more minutes (24,474) than the Portugal midfielder since he moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £47 million in February 2020.
But as Fernandes prepares for his 63rd and biggest game of another horror campaign, his team-mates will again look to him for all the answers in Wednesday's all-English Europa League final against Spurs in Bilbao.
This will be Fernandes' fifth final with United, winning just two and losing the 2021 Europa League crunch clash on penalties to Villarreal.
Manager Ruben Amorim, 40, said recently United could do with 'two Brunos' to which one insider quipped: 'How about 10?'.
No midfielder in Europe's top five leagues has had more goal involvements since February 2020 than Fernandes's 112.
Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne is second with 100, while Fernandes also beats the Belgian's 430 chances created with 535.
In another dismal season, Fernandes has 17 goals across all competitions along with 14 assists.

And he equalled Cristiano Ronaldo by winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a fourth time last week.
Amorim 's men have been a different beast in European competition, with Fernandes setting the all-time goal contribution record in Europa League history (41).
And club legend Roy Keane believes Fernandes could be the X-factor in Bilbao.
Keane, who slammed Fernandes earlier this season, told Sky Sports: "You still have to fancy United.
"Someone like Bruno can produce, the history of Manchester United still carries a little bit of weight.
"United's history in finals compared to Spurs'. That might edge it for them, and I think Bruno can produce that bit of magic."
Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Al-Hilal are ready to pay Fernandes a staggering £65million per season on a three-year deal.

KSI HUMBLED by UFC legend as YouTuber is forced to tap in just 17 SECONDS during grappling match

KSI was forced to tap out after just 17 seconds during a recent challenge with UFC fighter Demetrius Johnson. The YouTuber, who has also fought in a number of boxing bouts, set himself a target of lasting one minute in a grappling match with the former UFC flyweight champion. KSI started the contest on top of Johnson, seemingly in an advantageous position. However, he was beaten comfortably by the MMA man, an arm-lock forcing KSI to tap out just with just 17 seconds gone on the timer. 'He put up a wager, he put up a challenge,' explained Johnson. 'KSI does not grapple, he's more of a boxer. — ً. (@C0MB4TT) June 16, 2025 KSI last took to the ring for a boxing bout when he lost to pro fighter Tommy Fury back in 2023 'So I am always down for a challenge, especially someone who doesn't grapple as much. 'I am 145 pounds, he's 210. You guys might say he ain't 260, I understand that but we're gonna get a little bit of a grapple on and see if he can survive for one minute against me on the ground.' He did not. The pair exchanged high fives before starting the clock, Johnson quickly getting off the ground and flipping KSI onto his back. Johnson first went for the leg but decided on the YouTuber's arm, warning him the time to tap out would come soon. KSI quickly realised he was in trouble and wisely submitted. 'Oh my god,' he said after tapping out. 'Holy sh*t.' Johnson last fought in the UFC back in 2018. He lost his flyweight title to Henry Cejudo after a record 11 championship defences. Johnson was subsequently traded to the ONE Championship where he fought until his retirement in 2024. After rising to YouTube fame, KSI turned his hand to boxing, infamously fighting fellow streamer Logan Paul on two occasions. One was a draw, the other a KSI victory. In 2023, KSI lost to boxer and former Love Island star Tommy Fury. That was his last fight to date after a number of attempts to get back in the ring were cancelled.

Kleberson on Man Utd regrets, Cristiano Ronaldo and ‘big signing' Matheus Cunha

EXCLUSIVE: Former Manchester United and Brazil star Kleberson talks to Mirror Football about his time at Old Trafford, meeting Cristiano Ronaldo and the Red Devils' signing of Matheus Cunha Kleberson had the world at his feet back in 2003. Fresh from winning the World Cup just 12 months before, he became the first-ever Brazilian to sign for Manchester United. Supporters were understandably excited after a fresh-faced Kleberson was pictured alongside a teenage Cristiano Ronaldo on the Old Trafford touchline after putting pen to paper with the Red Devils. But the former midfielder struggled to hit the heights expected of him in the Premier League having made just 30 appearances for the club over two seasons before being allowed to join Turkish giants Besiktas. ‌ Kleberson, though, has no regrets from his time with United. Speaking exclusively to Mirror Football, he said: 'Everything goes fast in that time. I signed a professional contract in 1999, I win the league in Brazil in 2001 and then in 2002, I was in the World Cup winning squad with Brazil. And then 2003, I signed for the biggest club in the world in Manchester United. ‌ 'It all happened so fast. It's so fast. Unfortunately, I got a lot of injuries that push me back. I only say that because when I got an injury, I got back 100% to play, I need to compete against Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo who started to fly. 'It's not easy. I know I won the World Cup at the time and at a big name Manchester United but it took time to get to a better level. But injuries didn't help me at that time. 'But I was the first Brazilian in the Reds jersey, the first to score in Old Trafford and my sons are born there. I have great memories, I really enjoyed that time.' While Kleberson's injuries limited his contributions for United, the man who he was unveiled alongside - Cristiano Ronaldo - enjoyed plenty of success. The five-time Ballon d'Or scored 118 goals across his first spell before his record move to Real Madrid. Kleberson knew he was destined for stardom after meeting him for the first time. He said: "It's so funny because when I get into Old Trafford to sign my contract, I remember I was on a table with a lot of agents. And then a young guy was there. I asked 'who's that kid?' And it was Cristiano Ronaldo. 'I was told he played in a friendly game for Sporting vs United and he destroyed the game. Before Cristiano, they tried to bring Ronaldinho and I think 'wow, that kid is probably special'. ‌ 'As soon as I saw that kid on the field, his dribbling, his technical quality, it's amazing. But one thing is was how focused he was. He was really focused on the things he wanted to see, concentrated. "He wants to get better quickly. He had a special mentor in Sir Alex Ferguson and he put him in the right direction. Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Gary Neville helped him to improve. But the strong mind he had at that time really impressed me. To see him score goals in a final for Portugal, that kid never stops.' ‌ With it now being over two decades since Kleberson became the first Brazilian to sign for the club, United have once again turned to a Selecao star in the transfer market. Ruben Amorim's side quickly paid Matheus Cunha's £62.5m release clause to sign him from Wolves. Kleberson believes he could be just the answer the club are looking for to solve their goalscoring woes. He added: 'It's a big signing for Man United. I really enjoy watching Cunha play. ‌ 'He starts to play in my town in Coritiba. I really enjoyed watching his game against Paraguay. It was the first time I watched him this close. 'He does a little bit more close movement, a lot of runs without the ball, diagonal moves. It's a big signing. I think United are going to be scoring well with him.' Another Premier League player who has been on the move this summer has been Jorginho. The Arsenal midfielder was allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium to sign for Brazilian side Flamengo ahead of the Club World Cup. ‌ And Kleberson believes that the Italian could have a big impact for his former side in the USA this summer. He said: 'I think that's a big signing for Flamengo because of the experience he brings for the club, it's amazing. 'He's a leader. He wants to come to Brazil, wants to play in the Maracana and now he can help the club a lot. But for this tournament, it's a great signing and he's going to be helping Flamengo a lot in some of the games.' Kleberson was speaking ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Owen Farrell opens up on his 'overwhelming' 2023 Rugby World Cup nightmare for the first time after re-signing for Saracens - and leaves door open for England return

Owen Farrell has revealed for the first time how he was overwhelmed by the criticism he received during the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Farrell, 33, came in for heavy criticism for his performances during the tournament despite England impressing en route to finishing in third place. The tournament saw the Red Rose missed out on a second World Cup after an agonising one-point defeat in the semi-finals to eventual champions South Africa. Following remarks about Farrell being an under-performer in the side, in the eyes of fans and pundits, the fly-half opted to step away from international duty after the toiurnament and has not played for England since. That also saw him leave his boyhood club Saracens at the end of the 2023-24 season to join French Top 14 side Racing 92. However, after just one season in the French capital, he announced on Monday that he would be returning to England after agreeing a two-year deal with Sarries. Speaking after news emerged that he would be leaving France after a solitary campaign, Farrell opened up on why he opted to take a break from the England set-up. He told The Telegraph: 'I felt like I was playing well enough towards the end of that year and wanted to kick on and enjoy playing with England and do the best that I can. What came after was tough because it was a lot. 'But it was only me not being able to deal with it. It was getting on top of me a bit. I have loved playing for England throughout my career. 'I could make sense of it all individually. I could make sense of the criticism, I could make sense of the booing, and I could make sense of everything that was going on. But put it all together and it felt like it was non-stop. 'In the past, when I was younger, people thought I didn't care. I did care. Everyone thinks that I didn't because I was competitive. 'But I overthink everything anyway, but I always just thought it was all just part of it, and I would fight against it and suppress it. I had wanted to enjoy it, but everything seemed to hit the fan after that.' Farrell's return means he is available to be selected by England once again, with Steve Borthwick's side set to embark on a summer tour of Argentina. It could even see him drafted into the Lions squad, coached by his father Andy, in the event of an injury crisis during their eagerly-anticipated series against Australia. The Lions will play Argentina in a warm-up match at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Friday before jetting off Down Under. They will then play a series of warm-up matches before the first Test gets underway at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on July 19.
