Delhi CM Rekha Gupta embarks on spiritual yatra in Haridwar; vows for a cleaner Yamuna
DEHRADUN: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta offered prayers at Kedarnath and Badrinath on Monday, capping a spiritual visit to the revered Himalayan shrines this week.
Her pilgrimage began on Sunday with a visit to Haridwar, where she performed rituals and sought blessings. On Monday morning, Chief Minister Gupta arrived at Kedarnath Dham, where she offered prayers to Baba Kedar for the prosperity and well-being of the nation. Following her visit to Kedarnath, she proceeded to Badrinath Dham to continue her spiritual journey.
Earlier on Sunday, CM Gupta, accompanied by her husband, commenced her tour in Haridwar. Her first stop was the iconic Har Ki Pauri, where she took a holy dip in the sacred Ganga River. The Ganga Sabha extended a warm welcome to the Chief Minister, marking her first visit to Haridwar since assuming office.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Chief Minister Gupta stated, "The holy bath in Maa Ganga is very important for me." She added, "I have come to the sacred land of Har Ki Pauri after completing 100 days of my government's tenure. I have bowed at the feet of Maa Ganga and prayed for India to become developed, with Delhi also securing its rightful place."

DEHRADUN: Taking a stringent stance on the series of recent helicopter mishaps during the Char Dham yatra, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday warned heli operators to strictly prioritise safety over soaring passenger demand. He ordered a full safety audit and review of past accidents. "There will be no compromise whatsoever on the safety standards of heli services," CM Dhami declared, emphasising the state's paramount duty to ensure pilgrim safety. He has instructed a comprehensive audit and continuous review of past helicopter mishaps to prevent any recurrence. Directives include strict adherence to regular helicopter fitness checks, the formulation of robust and effective Standard Operating Procedures for ticket bookings, and stringent compliance with engine safety standards for helicopters operating in high-altitude Himalayan regions. Dhami delivered these directives during a high-level review meeting held at his official residence on Wednesday. The gathering brought together all heli-service providers and operators, alongside representatives from UCAADA (Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority), AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau), and DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). During the session, CM Dhami announced that UCAADA would be tasked with formulating a 10-year action plan for heli services in the state.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday issued a 'Flood Control Order' directing departments to be prepared for any 'flood-like situation' in the national capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asserted that the government is fully prepared to handle any such situation. Gupta on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the apex committee on flood control at the secretariat to review the city's preparedness ahead of the monsoon season and to issue the Flood Control Order 2025, which serves as a manual or guidebook for all departments, a statement said. The document carries details of each department's responsibilities, emergency contact points, and disaster management protocols. After the meeting, Gupta said that every year, Delhi residents suffer due to floods and waterlogging. She recalled how in August-September 2023, Delhi was struck by an unprecedented flood when the Yamuna River rose to 208.6 metres, submerging many residential areas. She said nodal officers have been deployed in major flood-prone areas and key drains are being desilted, the statement said. Gupta claimed that the previous governments never took flood control seriously and pointed out how in 2023, gates of the barrage couldn't even be opened as a consequence. 'In contrast, this year all major barrages have undergone large-scale repairs and maintenance, and nearly 20 lakh metric tonnes of silt have been removed from major drains. Around 80-90 per cent of desilting work by MCD and PWD is complete and the rest is ongoing,' she said. The CM said the Flood Control Order 2025 carries guidelines for drainage systems, river embankments, pumping stations, operational plans, equipment details, and emergency contact numbers. She said committees have been formed under cabinet ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, with three to four district magistrates under each with the responsibility to manage floods.

'No compromise with safety standards on helicopter service providers': Uttarakhand CM Dhami
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami (ANI) DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made it clear in strong words to all the helicopter service providers and operators serving in the state here that there should be no compromise with the safety standards of helicopter services, said an official statement. CM said that safety standards should be given top priority without getting complacent with the maximum number of passengers taking heli services. Along with this, the chief minister has also given instructions for audit and continuous review of heli accidents that have happened in the past years so that they do not recur. He said that as the nodal of the state, the safety of the passengers is our biggest responsibility. CM Dhami has given strict instructions to strictly follow the regular fitness check of the helicopter, make a solid and effective SOP for helicopter ticket booking and strictly follow the safety standards of the engine of the helicopter running in the high Himalayan regions. He has also directed UCADA to prepare a concrete policy to operate only double-engine helicopters in future. The chief minister has also directed UCADA and related stakeholders to study the heli service model being operated in Vaishno Devi. He has instructed to keep only highly experienced pilots in heli services in the state. Along with this, chief minister Dhami has also given strict advice to the heli operators to maintain sensitive behaviour with the passengers so that the tourists coming from all over the world have a pleasant experience in Devbhoomi. He has also directed the heli operators and the administration to run a cleanliness campaign on the Chardham routes. The chief minister said that in view of the increasing demand for heli services in future, many helipads are under construction in the state. So far this year, more than 66,000 passengers have availed the facility of heli shuttle services. chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also directed UCADA to prepare an action plan for heli services for the state for the next 10 years in today's meeting. He said that being a tourism and Chardham state, the demand for heli services is going to increase more and more in the state. Due to the adverse geographical conditions, heli services will be the basis of the state in future.
