Spurs in talks over second Brentford arrival with Frank targeting Bryan Mbeumo
Tottenham are closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank but are set to raid the Dane's former club Brentford for both his backroom staff and some players this summer
Tottenham are in talks to bring in Thomas Frank's assistant Justin Cochrane as part of a mega raid on Brentford. The North London side are closing in on the Dane's appointment as their new head coach.
He will move to Tottenham as part of a £10million deal that will see him replace Ange Postecoglou after his sacking last week. But Spurs aren't quite finished there, with Frank keen to bring colleagues and players in from his former club.
According to Sky Sports, talks are ongoing regarding Frank's backroom staff which includes assistant coach Cochrane. It was previously thought that Cochrane would be in contention to potentially replace Frank at Brentford but that now appears unlikely.
Ironically, Cochrane started his coaching career with Tottenham and then moved through the age groups with the FA. Speaking about that move, he said: 'I was ready for that next challenge. It was difficult leaving Tottenham because I enjoyed it, it was very close to home, and it was a good place to work.
"But the opportunity to work for England with some of the best young talents, and with some of the coaches at the time, who were fantastic... I felt it was an opportunity for me to learn again, experience some new things, and it really helped me develop as a coach and a person.'
Cochrane has also held roles with AFC Wimbledon and Manchester United. The former defender arrived at Brentford in June 2022, while he was also confirmed as a member of Thomas Tuchel's England coaching staff earlier this year.
Speaking about his time with Brentford, he added: "I had the ppportunity to work with Thomas, the opportunity to work in the Premier League with a progressive club, and I just wanted to learn again. It's another new challenge. saw it as more learning, working with good people, working in a good environment.
'I spent time working with the AFC Wimbledon first team in League One, but I wanted to test myself in the Premier League. There were some manager offers from League One clubs and some assistant coach roles at other Premier League clubs.

"But, in the end, it was an easy decision. It wasn't easy to leave Manchester United, but I wanted to go from working with youth players to working with the first team. I did 14 years with youth players at a good level, so to go to Brentford in a first-team environment, I felt like that was the next step for me as a coach.
'Once I had my mind set on Brentford, I'd met Thomas a few times and I'd met Phil, I just felt like it was the right fit; there were some good people to continue learning from, and it's been brilliant so far.'
Cochrane and Frank could potentially be joined at Tottenham by forward Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroon international is in the middle of a transfer tug of war between Manchester United and the North London side.
However, Frank isn't expected to have the only say on recruitment when he arrives at his new club. Technical Director Johan Lange - who has helped spearhead the approach for Frank - and former director Fabio Paratici are the two anticipated to be leading Spurs in the summer window.

'I would love that' - Liverpool urged to hijack £60m Manchester United transfer
Emile Heskey wants Liverpool to hijack a Manchester United transfer deal as the Reds look to bolster Arne Slot's squad this summer. Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and are closing in on a huge deal for his former teammate Florian Wirtz. The Anfield club are also pushing to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and want to sign another attacker to strengthen Slot's attacking firepower. Liverpool won the Premier League by ten points last season but know reinforcements are needed ahead of their title defence with Manchester City expected to come back stronger and Arsenal well-placed for another title tilt. At the other end of the table, Manchester United made Matheus Cunha their first summer signing and are now working on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo has verbally agreed a move to Old Trafford but United are yet to meet Brentford's £60m valuation for a player who scored 20 Premier League goals last season. The Cameroon international was linked with Tottenham and Newcastle United before Manchester United emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature. But Heskey wishes Mbeumo was heading for his former club Liverpool, insisting he would have been a perfect addition to Slot's squad. 'It's hard to ever say Liverpool make mistakes in the market, because their strategy is usually just so solid,' the former England striker told Prime Casino. 'I would have loved to have seen Bryan Mbeumo at Anfield with Liverpool though. He's got loads going for him. Manchester United In: Matheus Cunha Out: Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof Liverpool In: Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi Out: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher 'He was someone that is tried and tested in the Premier League for a few years as well. His work rate's astounding. He knows where the goal is. He's very, very technical and understands the way that Liverpool would want to play. 'So it was interesting to see that they never really went in for him.' Mbeumo looks set to join a Manchester United team that finished just 15th in the Premier League last season and will not be involved in any European competition next year. Asked how United were able to attract Mbeumo and Cunha despite their dismal 2024-25 campaign, Heskey added: 'The thing is with United is that they still have the pull to attract players. 'Normally, Mbeumo would be wanting Champions League football, knowing what the club are going to do. 'Even now, without Europe, in a transitional phase, United can still get hold of players like him and Matheus Cunha. More Trending 'It's a bit like when I chose Liverpool, who weren't yet at their best. I always supported Liverpool, but I always wanted to be in on the ground floor on their comeback. 'I understood the assignment, and I saw where things were going if they went well. 'Mbeumo probably feels the same. He can be part of something that can be great again. 'Let's be honest, it's Liverpool and Manchester United when you're abroad. They're the only two clubs who matter to the rest of the world.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Chelsea exile four players from CWC squad but hand chance to young star
Andrey Santos has been named in Chelsea's Club World Cup squad with four players left out of the group travelling to the US. Chelsea and Manchester City will be the Premier League's representation at the revamped competition which gets underway on Sunday in Florida. Blues midfielder Santos will have a role to play following an excellent season on loan at Strasbourg. The Brazilian is the only member of Chelsea's vast loan army to return to the first-team squad for the Club World Cup hoping to be part of Enzo Maresca's plans next season. Central midfield is an area of the pitch where Chelsea are blessed with talent in with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia battling for game time. 'I want to play, I want to get minutes so I can earn my place at the World Cup. I want to establish myself at Chelsea, I want to play regularly and be an undisputed starter and win titles in this shirt.' Santos will hope game time in the US can solidify his place in the side ahead of the new Premier League season with new signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr also in the squad. But the futures of a number of other Chelsea stars look bleak. Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Axel Disasi are among those to have been left out with the trio expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Sterling and Felix endured thoroughly underwhelming spells away from the club on loan – Sterling spending the season at Arsenal and Felix shipped out to AC Milan just six months after returning to Stamford Bridge. Disasi joined Aston Villa on loan in January having been deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca. More Trending Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has also been left out of the squad. The goalkeeper excelled at Strasbourg alongside Santos last season but will have no role to play in the US despite Chelsea missing out on a deal to sign Milan sot stopper Mike Maignan. The Blues failed to agree a fee with the Rossoneri for their goalkeeper before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
