HealthQuad targets raising $300 million third fund to back healthcare tech startups

Healthcare venture capital firm HealthQuad is raising $300 million (Rs 2,527.5 crore) for its third India-focussed fund.
The firm, backed by Quadria Capital, an Asia-focussed private equity fund specialising in healthcare, plans a corpus of $200 million with an additional $100 million greenshoe option to fund healthcare enterprise innovation startups in India.
Founded in 2016 under the Quadria Group, HealthQuad has focussed on backing tech-enabled healthcare models at the early-growth stage.The firm's first two funds backed over 18 companies, including Qure.ai, Medikabazaar, THB, Wysa, Ekincare, Redcliffe Labs, GoApptiv, and Strand Life Sciences.
This announcement comes in the wake of a split between HealthQuad's leadership team and Kois, the Belgian firm that co-founded HealthQuad alongside Quadria Capital. Following the departure of a general partner, the individual has launched a new healthcare venture capital fund of similar size, named HealthKois.
'We continue to own funds I and II fully under Quadria,' Sunil Thakur, cofounder and investment committee member at HealthQuad, told ET.
The new fund will focus on companies solving operational challenges for hospital chains. "We are looking to fund 13-15 companies in this fund," said Thakur.The fund will tap into Quadria Group's extensive Asia network and institutional relationships to drive growth in portfolio companies.Parent company Quadria Capital recently raised $1.07 billion for its third fund, demonstrating strong investor appetite for the group's strategy.

Operating from a state-of-the-art farm with polyhouses, cold storage, packhouses, and a farm pond, Hazimullah exports over 2,00,000 red roses annually for the romantic holiday alone. His roses, including red, pink, and yellow varieties, are also auctioned at the International Flower Auction Centre in Bengaluru, reaching global markets through other exporters. 'Rose farming demands hard work, persistence, and resilience,' Hazimullah told The Hans India. While many have left the industry, his disciplined, family-driven approach has led to success. He stands out as the only largest rose producer and exporter in the Rayalaseema region, according to horticulture assistant director Chandrasekhar. Unlike Araku Valley, once known for rose farms, or Kadiyam for nurseries, Hazimullah's farm is a unique export-oriented and training hub. His success is a family effort. Hazimullah credits his brother, Ziullah, an Agriculture graduate, for providing expert guidance. Launched in 2018 with 50 per cent subsidies from Central and state horticulture departments for polyhouses, the farm yields seven harvests annually, producing 8 lakh flowers per acre—totaling over 3 crore roses across 5 acres. Roses sell for Rs 5–6 in Bengaluru and fetch Rs 15–20 in international markets. The venture generates approximately Rs 15 crore annually, with half covering operational costs and the rest as profit for the joint family business, which employs around 40 workers, primarily from Uttar Pradesh. Sri Sathya Sai district collector T S Chethan has been a key supporter, providing administrative encouragement and highlighting Hazimullah's inspiring journey.

India, Canada agree to restore high commissioners after Modi-Carney meeting
After months of diplomatic strain over the previous Justin Trudeau government's tirade against India, New Delhi and Canada have agreed to restore high commissioners to each other's capitals. The breakthrough was achieved after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Canada to attend the G7 Summit, held a "positive and constructive meeting" with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney. Foreign secretary Vikram Misri said on Wednesday that the restoration of high commissioners is the first in "calibrated steps" to restore stability to the 'very important relationship". "The meeting discussed the importance of the India-Canada relationship, which is based on shared values, democracy and the rule of law, people-to-people contact and many other commonalities," Misri said in a video statement. The official assured that other diplomatic steps will follow to restore India-Canada diplomatic relations. India and Canada's diplomatic ties hit rock bottom last year after India recalled its high commissioner and five other diplomats after Ottawa attempted to link them to the killing of pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. New Delhi expelled an equal number of Canadian diplomats. Misri said the two nations have decided to hold talks on trade negotiations, which had been paused due to the strain. "In view of the trade negotiations between the two countries that are currently paused, the two leaders also decided to instruct their officials to take it up at an early date," he added. Canada also issued a statement after the Carney-Modi talks, saying the discussion reaffirmed the importance of Canada-India ties based upon mutual respect, the rule of law, and a commitment to the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity. 'The leaders agreed to designate new high commissioners, with a view to returning to regular services to citizens and businesses in both countries,' the statement added. They also discussed the Indo-Pacific and commercial links between Canada and India. Carney 'raised priorities on the G7 agenda, including transnational crime and repression, security, and the rules-based order,' the statement added. In October last year, India strongly dismissed Ottawa's allegation that it was involved in Nijjar's murder.
