The good news is Eben Etzebeth is fine and will captain the Sharks in their final round United Rugby Championship pool match against Scarlets in Durban on Saturday (7.30pm).
There had been fears last weekend that the veteran Springbok lock had suffered a serious knee injury, but it appears the two-time World Cup winner is fit and ready to play.
Springbok team-mate Siya Kolisi though won't play this weekend.
A win for the Sharks against the Welsh side and a defeat for Glasgow Warriors (against Leinster) will see John Plumtree's men finish third on the points table. Should that transpire, the Sharks will host the sixth-placed team on the points table in the quarter-finals in two weeks' time.
In all, there are four changes in the Sharks pack, while the backline has been retained that played last weekend.
Ox Nche returns at loosehead prop after missing last week's game, taking over from Dian Bleuler, with Emile van Heerden also making his return to the second row with Jason Jenkins shifting to the bench, in place of Emmanuel Tshituka (concussion) who had a strong cameo in last week's clash with the Ospreys, when he replaced Etzebeth.
Phepsi Buthelezi will play eighthman in place of Kolisi. The final change sees Tino Mavesere replacing James Venter on the side of the scrum.
In all, Plumtree has still selected nine Springboks in his starting team, with a further three on the bench.
Sharks: Aphelele Fassi, Ethan Hooker, Jurenzo Julius, Andre Esterhuizen, Makazole Mapimpi, Siya Masuku, Jaden Hendrikse, Phepsi Buthulezi, Vincent Tshituka, Tino Mavesere, Emile van Heerden, Eben Etzebeth (capt), Vincent Koch, Bongi Mbonambi, Ox Nche. Bench: Fez Mbatha, Ntuthuko Mchunu, Hanro Jacobs, Jason Jenkins, Nick Hatton, Bradley Davids, Francois Venter, Yaw Penxe
Players not available for selection due to injury or illness:
Corne Rahl, Dylan Richardson, Gerbrandt Grobler, Grant Williams, Henry Immelman, Jordan Hendrikse, Lukhanyo Am, Marnus Potgieter, Ruan Dryer, Trevor Nyakane

England's Tuchel impatient for improvement after dire Andorra display

Thomas Tuchel said he is impatient to see improvement from his England side and believes there is no need to "sugarcoat" criticism after an underwhelming 1-0 victory over minnows Andorra on Saturday. The Three Lions came under fire for their sloppy performance in the World Cup qualifier in Barcelona, where Harry Kane scored the only goal early in the second half. They were booed after struggling to break down a team ranked 173rd in the world even though they extended Tuchel's winning start to three games. "I'm impatient and want to do better," the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss said ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Senegal in Nottingham. "We are thinking about giving the players a little bit more freedom in the structure -- let's see. "Tomorrow we face a more physical and demanding team. On paper it might not look as offensive as we were against Andorra but will give the players more freedom to express themselves and hopefully we see that on Tuesday." A serial winner of major titles, Tuchel was appointed as the third foreign coach of England to great fanfare, but he has so far failed to deliver on the exciting brand of football he promised. His reign began with a 2-0 win over Albania and 3-0 victory against Latvia in March. England captain Kane conceded the Euro 2024 finalists had "got away with one" given their lacklustre performance in front of a small crowd at Espanyol's RCDE Stadium. "I think there was commonsense straight after in the dressing room," said Tuchel. "We underperformed clearly in the physical input in the game which you could see on the sideline and the data. We didn't run enough." The German said he believed in brutal honesty. "I protect my players, I said no names of players," he said. "We as a team didn't match our standards. "I didn't like the last 10 minutes, I felt on the sidelines. We didn't play seriously enough to win it in the end and what we needed to do in a World Cup qualifier. "Everything I say here I say to the players, why should I sugarcoat? There is no harm done, we can have criticism and I believe a group of players in football can speak honestly to each other.

Injured Scotland prop Fagerson out of Lions tour

Scotland prop Zander Fagerson has been ruled out of the British and Irish Lions' tour to Australia with a calf injury, head coach Andy Farrell announced on Monday. The Glasgow Warriors tighthead will be replaced in the squad by Ireland international Finlay Bealham. The squad, minus those involved in next weekend's Premiership Rugby and United Rugby Championship finals, are due to fly to Portugal for a training camp on Tuesday. England pair Jamie George and Asher Opoku-Fordjour will also join the group. "It's tough on Zander to miss out so close to the tour, but now Finlay gets an opportunity to come in and add to the group," said Farrell. "This is unfortunately part and parcel of the game, so we always have to be prepared for that. "But it's great to be finally at the stage where we can get onto the training ground and get to work with these players." The Lions, captained by England skipper Maro Itoje, face Argentina in Dublin on June 20 before starting their tour of Australia, which includes three Tests against the Wallabies.

Jake White on ‘underdogs' Bulls' URC final challenge

Jake White says the Vodacom Bulls are holding a 'lotto ticket' going into Saturday's URC final against Leinster at Croke Park, and is banking on his senior players to make it count. The Bulls face a formidable Leinster side playing its first URC decider, coming off a big win over defending champions Glasgow. The two top-ranked teams in the league stage this season, the Herd boast a 4-2 record against the Irish giants in the competition, including a historic Dublin semi-final win and back-to-back Loftus Versfeld victories. White's troops left the Republic yesterday, and were scheduled to hold a recovery session in the Irish capital today as they target a maiden URC title. Also read: URC REWIND: Bulls vs Leinster 'The wonderful thing for us is that we have a lotto ticket,' said White. 'You can't win the lotto if you don't have a ticket. We have a 50% chance of winning on Saturday. That's how sport works. 'We have to travel to play an international team. It is going to be like Ireland versus the Bulls. I'm not underplaying it,' he added. 'Ireland have beaten the All Blacks and many big teams. So we have to work hard; get things to work in our favour; recover well from bumps and bruises. Then we have to play very well. 'Look at what Leinster did to Glasgow and look at what Glasgow did to us last year. They did not struggle to beat Glasgow and will be on a high now going into a final at home.' The Bulls will contest their third URC final in four seasons, but White insists that history holds little value this week. 'It is all immaterial. It is now a final,' the veteran coach added. 'For both sides it is a completely different challenge. It doesn't matter that we beat them last year in a knockout game. Read more: Lethal Leinster out to bulldoze Bulls 'I'm glad because the whole of Dublin will be rugby crazy. Our young players will experience something unique and special. I will work hard for the guys to enjoy it and be ready. People travel the world to hopefully see the underdogs win. That is what happens in sport.' White is leaning on the experience of his Rugby World Cup-winning Springboks to guide the squad through the week. 'We need our senior guys who have been there and done it to impart their knowledge. We have Willie le Roux who has won a [Rugby] World Cup, so has Marco van Staden and Canan Moodie. We also have guys who have played in finals. I want them to talk to each other about what works, and what doesn't.' The post Jake on 'underdogs' Bulls' final challenge appeared first on SA Rugby magazine.
