If the flaws on the New York Yankees' roster weren't evident heading into this weekend, they're crystal clear now.
The Yankees, after losing the first two games of the World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers, have been embarrassed at Dodger Stadium by the reigning champs.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - MAY 13: Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees is thrown out of the game during the ninth inning against the Seattle Marinersat T-Mobile Park on May 13, 2025 in Seattle, Washington. MoreAfter blowing a 5-2 lead in Friday's game — allowing the Dodgers to score six unanswered runs — the Yankees went down in blowout fashion on Saturday, losing 18-2, their largest loss since 2019.
Their starting pitching has struggled, their bullpen hasn't looked great and they've continued to get little production from second and third base.
Thus, they could be very busy ahead of next month's trade deadline.
More news: Yankees 'Aggressively' Targeting 2 Key Positions in Early Season Trade
Andy Martino of SNY believes they will be just that, despite potential budget constraints after their offseason spending spree.
"It's true that the Yankees' post-Juan Soto spree left them at the limits of their willingness to spend. In fact, it was no sure thing that they would stretch for Paul Goldschmidt until folks in baseball operations made a strong case for doing so. But that was the offseason budget," Martino wrote.
"Teams almost always leave payroll in reserve for the trade deadline, and the Yankees are always aggressive when they feel they have the chance to win. I would not expect that to change in a year in which a championship is a reachable goal.
More news: Yankees Make Massive Announcement Regarding Injured All-Star
The Yankees' No. 1 priority should be adding an infielder — whether it be a second baseman or third baseman. The Yankees are expected to potentially use Jazz Chisholm at third base upon his return, meaning a second baseman would be their target. If Chisholm went back to second, though, they would need a third baseman.
Elsewhere, the Yankees will likely look for a starting pitcher, as Max Fried and Carlos Rodon have been forced to carry the rotation after Gerrit Cole underwent Tommy John surgery.
Luis Gil will be a major addition sometime during the summer, but another starter not coming back from injury would go a long way to rounding out the New York roster heading into the second half of the season.
The Yankees have overachieved after losing Juan Soto, and should feel very confident about their chances to win the weak American League. However, to get that elusive World Series trophy, they'll likely need to be active come next month's deadline.

Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins speaks out after false claims about dad's Yankees ties exposed
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free Hunter Dobbins directed the blame squarely at his father. The rookie Red Sox pitcher on Wednesday responded to The Post's bombshell that uncovered discrepancies in his story about his father's history with the Yankees. 'The whole back story, it was stuff that I had heard growing up and seen pictures of, from my dad,' Dobbins said before the Red Sox-Rays game at Fenway Park. 'At the end of the day, it's just from my dad and what I kind of grew my love for the game. At the end of the day, I don't go fact-check my dad or anything like that.' Dobbins made headlines when he told the Boston Herald that he'd retire before ever playing for the Yankees, explaining that his father, Lance, was twice drafted by the Bombers, signed after the second selection and was subsequently traded to the Diamondbacks. But The Post's Joel Sherman reported that Lance Dobbins does not appear as a Yankees draft pick for any season on Baseball Reference and that Yankees GM Brian Cashman — who has been with the organization since 1986 — has no recollection of the Yankees ever drafting a Lance Dobbins. 3 Hunter Dobbins speaks to the media on Wednesday. X / @WEEI Cashman also told Sherman that the Yankees amateur department checked their records and could not find anything about drafting a Lance Dobbins. Even further, Joe Garagiola Jr. and Buck Showalter, who were with the Diamondbacks in 1996-97, told Sherman they had no recollection of a Lance Dobbins. MLB itself could not find a Lance Dobbins having played at any level with any of the league's 30 teams. Has Dobbins spoken with his father to straighten out what really happened? 'A little bit, not really,' Dobbins said. 'My whole focus is on Saturday, getting ready to face the Yankees. This is my first time in the big leagues facing a team a second time, let alone back-to-back. So that's where my focus is, 100 percent. I imagine we'll talk in the future or something like that. It's been a bigger deal than it really needed to be.' Dobbins, in the Boston Herald story, also said his dad and Yankees great Andy Pettitte were 'really good friends.' But Pettitte told Sherman that neither he nor anyone he asked in his family remembers a Lance Dobbins. 3 Hunter Dobbins directed the blame at his father regarding the discrepancies in his story about his family's history with the Yankees. AP When asked specifically about The Post's story, Dobbins tried to downplay its impact. 'Doesn't faze me,' he said. 'Doesn't bother me. I love working with the media and everybody here. Everybody's been great. My focus is performing for the guys here in the locker room, for the fans in Boston. Something that's a few hours away doesn't faze me.' Dobbins said he was not surprised at how much his comments blew up. 3 Hunter Dobbins pitches during the Red Sox-Yankees game on June 8, 2025. Getty Images He pitched five innings, gave up three runs and earned a win — the first of his career — in an 11-7 Red Sox win over the Yankees on Sunday. He is expected to start on Saturday when the Red Sox host the Yankees at Fenway Park. 'This is a great rivalry, two cities that have a long history together,' Dobbins said. 'Anything that's in the news that goes with both of them is gonna turn into a story. It just adds to the game, we just have to embrace it and keep rolling.'

Pope Leo XIV Brings Chicago Style To The Vatican With His Choice Of Hat
Pope Leo XIV Brings Chicago Style To The Vatican With His Choice Of Hat Hats off to Pope Leo XIV for bringing a touch of Chicago to Vatican City. The newly installed pope is a devout fan of the Chicago White Sox. In fact, long before he was appointed the leader of the Catholic Church, he was filmed in the crowd of Game 1 of the 2005 World Series, which the White Sox won. Advertisement On Wednesday, the pope proved his faith runs deep during his general audience in St. Peter's Square. On top of his traditional white skull cap, the pontiff wore a black baseball hat repping his hometown team. Not surprisingly, the White Sox trumpeted the sartorial shout-out on social media. '.@Pontifex representing his favorite squad,' the post read. Although the pope hasn't publicly commented on his hat, journalist Jason Foster speculated it was a hat tip to Wednesday's away game against the Houston Astros, a rematch of the 2005 Series. The pope is returning to Chicago this weekend for a rally at Rate Field ― where the Sox play ― but since the team will be in Houston, he won't be able to attend a game. Advertisement However, back in May, White Sox Executive Vice President Brooks Boyer made it clear the pope 'has an open invite to throw out a first pitch,' and added, 'Heck, maybe we'll let him get an at-bat.' Of course, people on social media pontificated about the pontiff's choice of hat ― and how his fandom might help the Sox, who currently have a 23-44 record. Related...

Mariners Nearing Logan Gilbert Decision After Bryce Miller News
Mariners Nearing Logan Gilbert Decision After Bryce Miller News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Seattle Mariners' rotation is once again in flux after right-hander Bryce Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation. Advertisement Miller is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, marking his second IL stint this season due to arm trouble. Miller had only just returned from his previous absence on May 31, but the results were concerning. Across two starts, he posted an 8.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 4:2 K:BB in nine innings, struggling with command and consistency. Seattle now finds itself needing to shore up the rotation depth as the season enters a critical summer stretch. One name that continues to rise to the surface is Logan Gilbert. Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Images© Steven Bisig-Imagn Images Gilbert, sidelined since May with a right elbow flexor strain, has been ramping up through a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. On Tuesday, he made what's expected to be his final tune-up start, and delivered his strongest outing yet. Advertisement The right-hander tossed six shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with six strikeouts. Gilbert threw 72 pitches (43 strikes) and retired 13 consecutive batters at one point. Even more encouraging, Gilbert featured his full pitch mix, including his splitter, a pitch that's trick to regain feel for after a flexor issue. He's been on a regular five-day throwing schedule, putting him in line to return as soon as Monday, when the Mariners open a home series against the Boston Red Sox.
