Iran condemns US attack on nuclear sites, calls on UN Security Council to act
ANKARA: Iran condemned on Sunday (June 22) United States (US) airstrikes on three nuclear sites and called on the United Nations Security Council to act, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Iran reserves the right to resist "US aggression and the crimes committed by this rogue regime" in defence of its national security following the US attacks.
It called on the UN member states to condemn the US attack and urged restraint to avoid further escalation, warning that the situation could have far-reaching impacts on regional and global stability.
"The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) by attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear installations," Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a statement.
"The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behaviour," he said.
Highlighting Iran's right to respond, Araghchi emphasised, "In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defence, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people."
Iran's delegation to the United Nations also formally called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Sunday to discuss the US strikes.
In a letter submitted to the Council carried by Fars News Agency, the Iranian delegation urged "immediate action and the adoption of necessary measures under the framework of the United Nations Charter."
The letter emphasised the need to hold "the perpetrators of these heinous crimes fully accountable" to ensure that such acts do not go unpunished.
US President Donald Trump said early on Sunday that his forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
The attacks came as the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military assault on Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry. - Bernama-Anadolu

ISTANBUL, June 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The Iranian parliament has approved a measure to close the Strait of Hormuz to naval traffic following United States (US) strikes on three nuclear facilities, a senior lawmaker said on Sunday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported, citing local media. 'The parliament has reached the conclusion that the Strait of Hormuz should be closed,' Major General Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of the parliament's National Security Commission, said in statements carried by the state-run Press TV. The Strait of Hormuz is considered the world's most important gateway for oil transport.

Philippines urges Filipinos in Israel, Iran to leave as conflict escalates and US now bombing Iran

"The DFA has raised the alert levels in both Israel and Iran to alert level 3 (voluntary repatriation) effective immediately. All overseas Filipinos in Israel and Iran are enjoined to return to the Philippines," the DFA said in a statement. The DFA said that Filipinos' travel to these countries "is highly discouraged," due to the ongoing crisis and the actual closure of their airspace and seaports. Should overseas Filipinos in these countries wish to be voluntarily repatriated through the aid of the Philippine government, they are advised to coordinate with their respective Philippine embassies, the statement said. On Sunday, The US strike on nuclear facilities in Iran has not released any radiation outside the facilities, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in an initial assessment, "Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran - including Fordow - the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time," the international watchdog announced early in the morning on the platform X. The agency stated that further assessments of the situation in Iran would be provided as soon as more information becomes available. The United States supported Israel's campaign to destroy Iran's nuclear capability during the night and attacked three nuclear facilities. Among them was the well-fortified underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordow.
