📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona still on top after cup success
Power Rankings are back with the top three having consolidated their positions in recent weeks.
Here are the 10 sides in our updated Power Rankings table.
📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona still on top after cup success
10. Roma (🆕)
Roma return to our Power Rankings after a huge win for I Giallorossi. Matias Soule's goal secured a 1-0 win at former league leaders Inter Milan, extending Roma's unbeaten league run to 18 games. The capital club were 15th in the table in early December but have rose to sixth under the management of the wily Claudio Ranieri. Just two points separate Roma from the Champions League places.
9. Newcastle United (No change)
Newcastle got back to business at the weekend with a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Ipswich. Goals from Alexander Isak, Dan Burn and William Osula sealed the points and condemned Ipswich to relegation.

The Magpies are third in the table and targeting their highest Premier League finish since 2002/03 (3rd).
8. Arsenal (👎 Last week: 6)
Arsenal's season is in real danger of ending with nothing.
Their fading title dream officially ended at the weekend and a full focus on their Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain failed to deliver the required result. A 1-0 defeat at the Emirates leaves the Gunners with a huge task to progress.
7. Inter Milan (👎 Last week: 5)
Inter Milan's grip on the Scudetto is loosening after defeat at home to Roma last weekend. The loss was Inter's third consecutive reverse in all competitions, the first time the Nerazzurri have endured such run since 2017.
Simeone Inzaghi's side issued a fine response in midweek, after a thrilling six-goal draw at Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final. With the return at the San Siro next week, it's arguably advantage Inter.
6. Real Madrid (👎 Last week: 4)
Real Madrid failed in their quest to end Barcelona's treble dream after an extra-time defeat to their arch-rivals in the Copa del Rey final.
Los Blancos looked on course for silverware after goals from Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni cancelled out Pedri's opener, but Ferran Torres equalised to force the added period.
Heartbreak was confirmed when Jules Kounde smashed home on 116 minutes, with red cards for Antonio Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez in the final seconds showing the frustration.
5. Manchester City (👍 Last week: 10)
After a season of setbacks, Mancehster City are on the rise again. It's six wins in seven games for Pep Guardiola's side, who have an FA Cup final to look forward to after beating Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
Goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol booked a final date with Crystal Palace, and a challenging campaign will conclude with a Wembley showdown.
4. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 8)
Bayern Munich are almost there. After being dethroned last season for the first time in over a decade, Bayern are one win from reclaiming the Bundesliga.
Vincent Kompany's side made light work of Champions League-chasing Mainz at the weekend, as goals from former Premier League alumni Leroy Sane, Michael Olise and Eric Dier did the damage.
Bayern are eight points clear with three games to go and, almost certainly, set to be champions again.

3. Liverpool (No change)
It's official, Liverpool are champions of England again.
Liverpool's coronation has been inevitable for some time but the party can now get in full swing. Sunday's celebrations at Anfield were 35 years in the making, with the club's 2019/20 title success won behind closed doors. Now, the Reds are keen to make up for it.
2. Paris Saint-Germain (No change)
Paris Saint-Germain's bid to become French football's first Invincibles fell at the 31st hurdle.
Perhaps with one eye on Europe, the Ligue 1 champions were beaten 3-1 at home by Nice. Luis Enrique's side won the clash that most mattered, however, edging out Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates. A place in the Champions League final is within touching distance.
1. Barcelona (No change)
Barcelona have claimed the first leg of a potential treble, beating Real Madrid 3-2 in an engrossing Copa del Rey final. Jules Kounde was the unlikely match-winner as the French full-back thundered in in extra time.
Their Champions League semi-final with Inter is also perfectly poised. An all-time classic ended 3-3 in Catalonia, ahead of next week's return at the San Siro.
Hansi Flick will be confident, though the Catalans need to tighten up at the back.

This official souvenir magazine, a must-have keepsake for every Liverpool FC supporter, is available from Reach Sport, and Chris has picked out five extracts from the 116-page, 30,000-word magazine to share with ECHO readers… Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool 'As they slept the night before the biggest clash in English football, Manchester United fans would have been forgiven for waking up in cold sweat with Mo Salah on their minds. Advertisement The Egyptian went into this fixture having scored 14 goals in 15 appearances against United including 11 in the Premier League – the most in the competition's history – and a club/league record six at Old Trafford, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 win in 2021. Salah also got two in Liverpool's 7-0 thrashing of their rivals at Anfield in 2023 and another goal in this game would make Old Trafford the first away stadium any Red had scored at in seven consecutive appearances. So when his goal came the only surprise was that it took Salah 56 minutes…' Liverpool 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion 'Gakpo also curled a shot narrowly wide but it felt like the dam was about to burst and it soon did. Gakpo cut inside again and clipped in a cross that was intended for Nunez, but evaded everyone and bounced into the net with Verbruggen rooted to his line. Advertisement All of a sudden the Anfield whirlpool that has swallowed so many opponents over the years had Brighton by the ankles. Before they knew it, Curtis Jones had driven forward, exchanged passes with fellow substitute Luis Diaz, and slipped a pass to Salah, who cut past Estupinan and smashed an unstoppable left-footed effort in at the Kop net…' Liverpool 2-0 Manchester City 'From the first whistle they tore into Pep Guardiola's Manchester City like a pack of red-clad Tasmanian Devils in a field full of wallabies. The Cityzens simply had no answer. They were devoured. Taken apart. The 2-0 scoreline flattered them. Pickford pushed Gravenberch's shot out before Mac Allister, Jota and Diaz had efforts blocked. The pressure was mounting and in the 57th minute came the decisive moment. Advertisement Jota tackled James Garner on the edge of the Everton box, Diaz backheeled the ball into his path and Jota slalomed past three Blues defenders like they were flags on the slopes of Lillehammer before slotting the ball back across Pickford, into the Kop net. Everton wanted an offside against Diaz, but he was off in a previous phase of play when he didn't attempt to get the ball. The goal stood and the 'Oh he wears the number 20' Jota song rang around Anfield louder than it has ever done before…' Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham Hotspur 'Anfield was a sea of red, just like Virgil van Dijk had requested. 'Come in red or come with all red,' said the skipper after signing his new contract. 'Make it a red Anfield because that would look incredible.' Advertisement He was right. It looked a picture for Liverpool FC's title-winning day. Outside, rivers of red flowed round the streets of Anfield Road. Today was the day. Barcelona sign goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol
Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. He joins the club on a six-year deal that runs through to 2031. The 24-year-old was considered among the best goalkeepers in La Liga last season, and his release clause at Espanyol was set at €25million (£21.1m; $28.6m). Producte català.Qualitat Barça. — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona_cat) June 18, 2025 The Athletic reported in the DealSheet on June 3 Garcia was among Barcelona's top priorities this summer. 'I know that this decision won't be easy to understand for everyone,' Garcia said in an Instagram post on Wednesday. 'I don't ask you to do so. But I do want you to know that it's been a decision which I've thought about a lot, thinking not only in my career but also in what's best for the club, for my family and for me. It's not any old farewell, it's a stage of my life which ends with the conviction that everything I've lived has made me better.' Advertisement Arsenal have also held a long-standing interest in Garcia but the Premier League side have been working on alternatives this summer. Arsenal pursued the goalkeeper in the summer of 2024 but withdrew from negotiations late in the window after it became clear Espanyol were not prepared to accept any offer worth less than his release clause. Arsenal instead opted to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on loan. Garcia helped Espanyol to promotion from La Liga 2 in the 2023-24 season, keeping 12 clean sheets in the 21 matches he played. He started all 38 of Espanyol's La Liga fixtures during the 2024-25 campaign, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 51 times. The promoted side finished 14th in La Liga, two points clear of the relegation zone. Wojciech Szczesny finished the 2024-25 season as Barcelona's first-choice goalkeeper, having come out of retirement to join the club after captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious right knee injury in September. He returned to action in May, while Szczesny has been offered a two-year contract extension. Analysis by Thom Harris It isn't often a goalkeeper stands out quite like this, but Joan Garcia's relentless miracle-working last season made his progress impossible to ignore. Not only was the 24-year-old the shot-stopper with the most saves to his name last season — preventing over eight goals based on the quality of shots he faced — he also claimed the most crosses and took the most touches. He was busy, and a huge reason as to why his boyhood club Espanyol remained in the Spanish top flight for another year. Garcia managed eight clean sheets last season — not to be dismissed while playing for the fourth-leakiest side in the division when considering their expected goals conceded — keeping four of those after having made five or more saves. He produced seven in a dramatic 1-0 win over Real Madrid, a ludicrous stop at his near-post to deny Rodrygo early on helping to set the tone. Advertisement Rapid reactions and reflexes have helped Garcia to catch the eye this season, but he is comfortable with the ball at his feet too. Still extremely young in goalkeeper years, it feels like a no-brainer for Barcelona to make the move. Analysis by Pol Ballus With Joan Garcia landed, the domino effect with Ter Stegen is on. Barcelona plan to make Garcia their starting goalkeeper, and now it's time for the 33-year-old to decide what to do ahead of the new season. Ter Stegen is under contract until 2028, but Barca are looking to offload the goalkeeper and his salary. As much as he is perfectly entitled to stay, the German has now his role in the next World Cup at stake — Julian Nagelsmann wants Ter Stegen to be his number one goalkeeper after Manuel Neuer retirement, but if next season he does not have a regular involvement, this will be under threat. The Joan Garcia signing also shows the ruthless approach Deco plans to take regarding the assembling of the new squad. The sporting director felt the best way to let Ter Stegen know he is not that needed anymore was to bring his replacement in. The fact Ter Stegen has been the club captain for the past season, as well as the longest-servant in the current squad, has not played much of a role in Deco's decision making. He feels the best for the club was to sign Garcia and get rid of Ter Stegen, and he seems determined to fulfil the task. Club sources admit they are aware Ter Stegen can do what he wants, including being entitled to stay at the club for the remainder of his contract. But now it's time to see how the German takes on that challenge, which are his priorities and if he believes he has what it takes to challenge for the number one spot.

Man Utd on verge of huge second summer deal with Brentford star keen
Man Utd Close In On Second Major Summer Signing As Mbeumo Edges Towards Old Trafford United Step Up Attack Rebuild With Mbeumo Talks Progressing Manchester United's summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim appears to be gathering momentum. Following the confirmed signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal, reports from TeamTalk, credited to transfer insider Rudy Galetti, now suggest the club is nearing an agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. Advertisement United's interest in the 25-year-old forward has been no secret. Mbeumo, fresh off a breakout Premier League campaign where he scored 20 goals and laid on seven assists, has been attracting interest from a number of top-flight rivals, including Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle. Yet it is the Old Trafford hierarchy who have acted most decisively. Photo: IMAGO According to Galetti's latest update on X, 'positive contacts' have been held between United and Brentford. 'The gap on fixed fee is narrowing: just a few million left. Personal terms have already been agreed, as revealed days ago: to date, Bryan only wants MUFC – no interest in other clubs.' Price Tag Narrowing As Brentford Hold Firm United initially lodged a bid worth up to £55 million, which Brentford swiftly rejected. The West London club, aware of Mbeumo's rising stock and still recalibrating after the departure of Thomas Frank to Spurs, have been reluctant to lose their talisman without receiving maximum value. Advertisement With negotiations now described as 'positive' and only a small margin separating the two clubs, it appears a deal could be concluded in the coming days. Personal terms have reportedly been settled for some time, and Mbeumo's desire to join United has been unwavering throughout the process. Photo: IMAGO TEAMtalk reports that Mbeumo has had only one destination in mind, even as other suitors circled. His clarity of intent, combined with United's sustained pursuit, appears to be paying off. Mbeumo's Mentality Signals He Is Ready Mbeumo has long demonstrated a maturity beyond his years, both on and off the pitch. Speaking recently on The Obi One Podcast hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, the Brentford forward addressed the psychological demands of playing at the highest level. Advertisement 'I think this is something we can always do. But you need a lot of resilience because you can say, 'I want to be there' but if you don't do [enough] you won't be able to achieve what you really want,' he said. When pressed about playing for a club of United's magnitude, Mbeumo did not shy away. 'I always wanted to play the biggest game[s] for the biggest club when I was younger. It's easy to say that I want to be there but obviously you need to put a lot of demand on yourself and I've shown what I'm capable of.' Cunha Partnership Offers Intriguing Potential With Matheus Cunha already signed, the potential of pairing him with Mbeumo offers an exciting prospect for Amorim as he begins to shape a new-look United front line. The club is clearly targeting forwards who offer dynamism, versatility and work rate, traits both Cunha and Mbeumo possess in abundance. Photo: IMAGO Advertisement Should the deal go through, it would not only be a statement of intent from United but a key part of Amorim's early strategy to build a more fluid, aggressive attacking unit for the 2025/26 campaign. Our View – EPL Index Analysis Mbeumo is not just a name with hype, he's delivered 20 goals and 7 assists in a Brentford team that finished mid-table tells you he's doing more than just standing out, he's leading. His pace, composure, and ability to operate across the front line make him a perfect modern forward. What's most exciting is his mindset. Listening to him speak, he sounds like someone hungry for the next level. He's not dazzled by the badge – he's motivated by the challenge. That's the type of player you want in a dressing room that needs a reboot. Advertisement United fans will also be pleased to see business done early. After years of dragging out deals and settling for Plan B options, getting Cunha in and now moving swiftly for Mbeumo suggests there's a clear strategy under Amorim. Pairing those two with Bruno Fernandes behind? That's a front three with movement, intelligence and end product. If United can get this one over the line, there's a sense the rebuild might finally be on the right track.
