"Exploring Path To Reset Ties": India On Relations With Canada

Describing Indian and Canada as "vibrant democracies", the external affairs ministry on Thursday said New Delhi believes the forthcoming meeting between the prime ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the G7 Summit will offer an important opportunity to exchange views and explore pathways to reset bilateral ties.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this in response to a query during his weekly media briefing.
"Our Prime Minister had received a call from the Canadian Prime Minister last week. During the call, Prime Minister Mark Carney invited Prime Minister (Modi) to attend G7 (meeting), and as you are aware the invitation has been accepted," he said.
The call was also an occasion for the two prime ministers to reflect or talk about India-Canada relations, and how it can be taken forward, the MEA spokesperson said.
Canada will be hosting the crucial G7 meeting later this month.
"India and Canada are vibrant democracies, which are bound by shared democratic values and steadfast commitment to the rule of law. And, of course, very vibrant people to people ties," Jaiswal said.
"We believe that the forthcoming meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada will offer an important opportunity for them to exchange views on bilateral and global issues, and explore pathways to set or reset the relationship, based on mutual respect, shared interests and sensitivity to each other's concerns," he said.
Later in response to another query on the future trajectory of India-Canada ties, Jaiswal said, "We are exploring path to reset ties."

HC defers Turkish firm Celebi's plea against revocation of security clearances, to await Delhi HC verdict
The Bombay High Court on Friday deferred till July 10, the hearing on the petition filed by subsidiary of Turkey-headquartered airport ground handling services major Celebi, seeking suspension and annulment of the security clearance cancellation by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The HC decided to adjourn the hearing after it was informed that the Delhi HC judgment on the identical challenge was awaited. The BCAS, amid the backlash over Turkey's support for Pakistan in the India-Pakistan conflict, had last month revoked with immediate effect security clearance of the Indian arm of the Celebi citing 'national security'. The revocation led to airports in India where Celebi group operated including Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), terminating their contracts with the group companies, prompting the subsidiaries to approach the courts. The court was informed that seven airports including those in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai have terminated services of the petitioner. The MIAL had terminated the contract of Celebi's subsidiary Celebi Nas Airport Services India, which operated at the Mumbai airport. A bench of Justices Burgess P Colabawalla and Firdosh P Pooniwalla was hearing writ plea by Celebi Nas against revocation of security clearances. The Union of India, BCAS, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the regional office of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) are made respondents in the matter. The bench noted that the issue raised by petitioner was identical to those raised by its sister concern before the Delhi HC and the same was heard and the judgment was reserved, which will be delivered in due course. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing the Central government submitted that the present writ plea be adjourned till the Delhi HC pronounces its verdict. The court noted that senior advocate Chetan Kapadia for the petitioner Turkish firm 'did not seriously oppose Mehta's request as the decision given by Delhi HC would certainly have bearing on present matter.' The HC will hear the plea next on July 10. Meanwhile, a single-judge bench of the Bombay HC of Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan on June 13 extended temporary relief granted to Celebi by vacation court. The vacation bench on May 26 had restrained MIAL from taking a final decision on tenders invited to replace Celebi's subsidiary till the matter is heard by the regular court. Justice Sundaresan was hearing two applications by Celebi Nas Airport Services India, filed under Section 9 of Arbitration and Conciliation Act against Adani group-owned MIAL seeking annulment of its termination of contracts with the petitioner. The vacation bench had directed the MIAL that till regular court hears the matter, a final appointment of replacement operator must not be given an effect. Justice Sundaresan has posted further hearing on arbitration pleas to June 17.

Kashmiri politicians, including CM and ex-CMs, slam global silence on Israel's attack on Iran
Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former CM Mehbooba Mufti on Friday strongly criticized the 'silence' of global powers over Israel's attack on Iran, calling it a dangerous display of 'double standards'. Omar said that as far as he knows, Iran did not give Israel any provocation to launch an attack. 'Israel went ahead on their own, calling it a pre-emptive attack, and waged war on a country. If the global powers remain silent on this, it will be truly unfortunate. What Israel has done is very similar to what Russia did to Ukraine,' Omar told reporters in Srinagar. Omar pointed out the hypocrisy in international responses. 'You raise your voice against Russia, launch campaigns. But when Israel attacks Iran, America, Europe, and others remain silent. If it is wrong for one country to attack another, it should be wrong also when Israel attacks Iran,' he said. 'These glaring double standards endanger global peace and stability. Equally disturbing is the deafening silence of the so-called Muslim countries, who remain shamelessly non-existent in the face of such grave injustice. Their inaction is not just disappointing, it's a betrayal of the very causes they claim to stand for,' Mehbooba said. Kashmir's Chief Cleric and Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said that it was distressing to know about the bombing of Iran by Israel. "This is highly condemnable. While perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it, Israel is now putting the whole of the Middle East in peril. It has become a rogue state and a huge threat to world peace," Mirwaiz said. "It is the moral duty of the UN and all world nations to put pressure on Israel to stop the genocide and war in Gaza and prevent Israel from targeting other nations.
