Shell subsidiaries increase working interest in Ursa platform in Gulf of Mexico

Yahoo02-05-2025

Shell Offshore and Shell Pipeline Company Limited (SPLC), subsidiaries of Shell, have increased their stake in the Ursa platform in the Gulf of Mexico from 45.39% to 61.35%.
The two subsidiaries signed an agreement in February this year to increase their working interest in the platform with the purchase of a 15.96% working interest from ConocoPhillips Company (COP).
The move is part of Shell's strategy to invest in profitable and carbon-competitive oil and gas projects that have a robust integrated value chain.
Furthermore, expanding Shell's interest in existing assets supports stable liquids production from its 'advantaged' upstream business.
Shell is the operator of the Ursa tension-leg platform (TLP) and holds a 61.35% working interest ownership, alongside BP Exploration & Production with 22.69% and ECP GOM III with 15.96%.
The transaction with ConocoPhillips Company also comprises a 11.81% membership interest in the Shell-operated Ursa Oil Pipeline Company, now held by SPLC; COP's 1% working interest in the Europa prospect, which is also operated by Shell; and COP's 3.5% overriding royalty interest in Ursa.
This royalty interest was acquired by COP as part of its merger with Marathon Oil Corporation, completed in November 2024.
The Ursa TLP, which began production in 1999, is situated approximately 209km south-east of New Orleans in the Mars Basin, a prolific hydrocarbon region.
Over the past 25 years, the Ursa/Princess field has produced a gross total of more than 800 million barrels of oil equivalent.
This latest deal comes after Shell Eastern Trading finalised the purchase of Pavilion Energy last month.
The deal includes Pavilion Energy's LNG portfolio, which has a contracted supply volume of around 6.5 million tonnes per annum.
In April, Reuters reported that Shell is set to finish a marine survey at Venezuela's Dragon offshore gas field.
"Shell subsidiaries increase working interest in Ursa platform in Gulf of Mexico" was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.

GEIL-operated Otakikpo onshore terminal completes first crude oil export

Green Energy International (GEIL) has completed the first crude oil export from its Otakikpo onshore terminal in Nigeria, reported the Nigerian Observer. The inaugural shipment was facilitated on 8 June, with a vessel chartered by Shell transporting the maiden cargo from the terminal in Rivers State's Otakikpo marginal field. The Otakikpo terminal is reportedly the first privately constructed and managed onshore crude export terminal in Nigeria in more than five decades. GEIL chairman Anthony Adegbulugbe said: 'We are deeply grateful to all our partners and commend the dedication of our indigenous technical team, who worked relentlessly to bring this project to life. This is a moment of pride for Nigeria and a milestone for African-owned energy enterprises.' The terminal currently has a storage capacity of 750,000 barrels and is equipped to handle the export of 360,000 barrels per day (bpd). GEIL has plans to expand the storage capacity to three million barrels, the report said. The project's initial phase saw an investment of more than $400m (£295.34m), with total development costs expected to surpass $1.3bn. Designed to accommodate up to 250,000bpd of crude, the Otakikpo field's present production is around 10,000bpd. GEIL pointed out that the terminal provides a strategic solution for the evacuation of crude from more than 40 nearby stranded oilfields, which together are estimated to hold more than three billion barrels of oil equivalent. Otakikpo terminal is expected to boost Nigeria's crude production, lessen reliance on offshore terminals and encourage new investments in the nation's oil sector. With the global demand for African crude increasing, the terminal is poised to draw more investor interest and strengthen Nigeria's position in the international energy market. GEIL emphasised that the Otakikpo facility is set to play a crucial role in enhancing crude evacuation and supporting production growth, aligning with Nigeria's long-term energy strategy. Michigan gas prices jump 9 cents since last week, AAA says

Michigan gas prices jumped 9 cents from a week ago, according to AAA. Michiganders are paying an average of $3.17 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, which is 5 cents more than this time last month and 27 cents less than this time a year ago. A 15-gallon tank of gas costs motorists about $48, around $9 less than the highest price drivers paid in July 2024. "Compared to last week, Michigan drivers are seeing higher prices at the pump, largely due to an increase in demand," said AAA spokesperson Howard Hughey. In Metro Detroit, motorists are paying about $3.15 per gallon, which is 3 cents less than last week and 35 cents less than last year. According to AAA, the most expensive gas prices in the state can be found in Ann Arbor ($3.22), Grand Rapids ($3.22) and Lansing ($3.17), while the cheapest prices are in Marquette ($2.98), Traverse City ($3.00) and Jackson ($3.05). AAA offers the following tips to save on gas: • Combine errands to limit driving time. • Shop around for the best gas prices in your community. • Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card. • Remove excess weight in your vehicle. • Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduce fuel economy. • Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell's Fuel Rewards program can save 5 cents per gallon when they fill up at Shell.
