EXCLUSIVE Wild moment brave tradie rushes to rescue woman from raging inferno engulfing her suburban house - and how she wanted to do the unthinkable
A carpenter has described the moment he rushed into a blazing inferno to wake up an elderly stranger just moments before her bedroom was engulfed in flames.
The two-storey home on Theresa Street at Smithfield, in Sydney 's west, caught fire just before 7am on Thursday.
Omar Masri had been driving to work when he spotted thick plumes of smoke rising from the property. He assumed it was 'just as shed fire' but only when he got closer did he realised the actual home was well alight.
Mr Masri's first thought - that he would 'just go past' to make sure someone was aware of the fire - turned into him springing into action when he saw flames bursting through some of the home's windows.
He said smoke started appearing from another area on the left of the property as a hissing powerline overhead showered the front lawn with sparks.
A man then emerged from inside the house and told the tradie that his mother was still inside, prompting Mr Masri to selflessly venture into the flames.
He went checking from room to room, hoping the flames would keep their distance, until he found the elderly woman asleep in an upstairs bedroom.
'She wasn't breathing good, her nose was all black from the smoke. It was very, very smoky - it was nearly pitch black,' Mr Masri told Daily Mail Australia.
He managed to rouse the woman and the pair went back downstairs to the front door - but it was here that the woman's behaviour took Mr Masri by surprise.
As he tried to guide the woman outside she stopped and told him she wanted to stay inside.
'I have no idea why. I was just saying ''the fire is too big, you have to come'' and kept urging her to leave.'
The confused carpenter eventually convinced the homeowner to follow him to safety.
'Once I told her the firies (firefighters) were here she agreed.'
Mr Masri had managed to film parts of the incident and, in a video taken just after the two escaped outside, it showed the fire raging inside the woman's bedroom.
'It was just a couple of minutes later,' he said.
The front window of the bedroom had been blown out and flames were reaching several metres above the roof.
Fire and Rescue NSW then arrived a few minutes later.
Neighbours from the small, suburban cul-de-sac filed into the street to watch as firefighters battled the blaze.
Police confirmed two occupants received treatment from paramedics before they were transported to local hospitals.
One of them remains in a serious condition.
Fire crews worked to control the blaze for hours, with the structure officially declared 'fully destroyed' later on Thursday.
At one point the roof of the home partially collapsed after flames ripped through it.
Firefighters also battled a 'live' feed of electricity after the power pole outside the house collapsed.
Crews remained at the scene well into afternoon, putting out lingering 'hotspots' and monitoring for any potential structural collapse and or embers that could light other properties.
Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from reaching neighbouring homes.
Fire and Rescue NSW said specialist fire investigators will now work to determine the cause of the blaze.
Ambulance NSW told Daily Mail Australia they attended to one of the occupants at the scene.

Selfish Mini Cooper driver filmed being rescued from Puget Sound after 100mph chase killed two passengers
Two people were killed when a Mini Cooper plunged into Puget Sound while the speeding driver tried to flee police. The car went over a ferry dock in Seattle's Edmonds neighborhood Tuesday night after the driver led police on two chases, reaching speeds of at least 100mph. Body camera footage obtained by KOMO News shows how officers frantically rushed to the rescue after the driver drove off the dock with four passengers in tow. Officers threw life vests and flotation devices to the survivors as they screamed and shrieked in what police described as a state of complete 'panic'. A man was heard shrieking and yelling 'help! I'm serious' as officers tossed rope and the rescue devices into the water below. Police advised the man to 'put it over you' and instructed the other survivor, a woman who appeared in a much calmer to state, to help him. 'Put this over you, so you don't go down and you can hold him,' the officer told her, before asking him to put a flotation device on the man. Officers rescued three people from the water, including the 29-year-old driver who is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Two other passengers tragically died in the vehicle. It is still unclear if they died by drowning. The horrific incident began just after 11pm when a Washington state trooper tried to pull over the vehicle on I-5 southbound for driving 19 miles over the speed limit. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued, but the trooper stopped their pursuit just moments later for safety reasons. The same car was spotted driving recklessly on the same interstate further south, prompting an attempted stop by a Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deputy. The driver, from Tulalip, was weaving in and out of traffic as he drove at speeds greater than 100mph, KOMO reports. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated to roughly 120mph and a chase ensued. He exited the highway and continued driving into the suburban town of Mountlake Terrace, before continuing into Edmonds, where he managed to lose the deputy. The officer finally located the vehicle after noticing a destroyed gate at the Edmonds Ferry Terminal. Officials say the driver went around the cones, through the gate at the head of the dock, and overboard into the water, where the car came to rest on its head. A witness told the TV station it sounded like the driver 'launched it', adding: 'He did not slow down at all.' The three survivors were pulled out of the water with serious injuries and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased - a 45-year-old woman from Lakewood and a 48-year-old woman from Auburn - were recovered by a dive team. The women's identities are being withheld, pending family notification. Footage captured by FOX 13 and KING 5 revealed the Mini Cooper was hoisted out of the water after being fully submerged at 40 feet below. Charges do not appear to have yet been filed against the driver, who officials say was impaired at the time of the crash. Edmonds police confirmed the crash occurred in the city, but told Daily Mail its officers were not involved in the pursuit. They deferred us to the Snohomish county sheriff and Washington state patrol, which is investigating the crash. Neither department immediately responded to our request for comment.

Texas man loses 40 percent of his skin after running back into house to save dog when motorcycle exploded in the living room
A Texas man burned 40 percent of his skin off his body after rushing into his burning home to save his dog after a motorcycle exploded inside. Zain Cano, 31, of San Antonio, risked his life to save his dog on May 22 when a fire erupted inside he and wife Jenna Carter's duplex while he was working on his motorcycle inside the home around 10pm. 'I had been working on my motorcycle and didn't secure the fuel line, the gas leaked onto the carpet and caught fire,' he wrote on Reddit. Cano managed to safely escape the apartment, only to realize his beloved dog Clarence was still inside and ran back into get the pooch, who appears frequently on his social media pages. Carter was not home when the fire broke out. When firefighters arrived, flames were leaping out of the home and they found Cano lying on the lawn, according to News 4 San Antonio. He was rushed to the hospital. The heroic feat left Cano hospitalized and with burns covering 40 percent of his body and in need of multiple surgeries, the couple revealed in a GoFundMe and on Facebook. Cano, who was released from the hospital on Wednesday, also underwent a skin graft on the right side of his body and a blood transfusion. One of the skin grafts, which transferred skin from his calf to his foot, resulted in one of his tattoos being moved to a different part of his body. Photos of Cano in hospital, show him completely unrecognizable with no hair and white bandages covering every part of his body - a far cry from the dark-haired, mustached man he was before the incident. Cano, who does not have health insurance, Carter, and Clarence are now homeless and the young dog owner faces a lengthy and painful road to recovery. 'I feel horrible because my family is now homeless because of my mistake,' he wrote on Reddit. 'We're staying at a motel for the time being, but it's expensive and I can't work and probably won't be able to for at least another month or more.' Carter is also not working at the moment as Cano cannot care for himself and needs assistance changing his bandages, giving him sponge baths, and 'wiping my butt.' 'He's had a hard road so far and a long one ahead of him in terms of healing.' Carter wrote on the GoFundMe. 'He's going to need multiple weeks of continuous medical care and help from me (he has to use a walker and cannot use his hands), and we desperately need a stable environment for him to heal in.' The couple is hoping to purchase a camper to minimize their expenses, but worry it might hurt Cano, who is 'having trouble getting around.' 'We have to change my bandages daily and we're concerned about keeping things clean enough so I don't get an infection,' he said on Reddit. The couple started the fundraiser as a way to ask for help with medical bills, permanent housing, and upcoming expenses 'Unfortunately, we already spent what little savings we had and I won't be able to work for a while.' The couple started the fundraiser as a way to ask for help with medical bills, permanent housing, and upcoming expenses. 'So now time is of the essence and I'm humbly and embarrassingly asking for help again,' Cano wrote on Facebook.

Forensic testing reveals ‘wool' clothing made of domestic cat fur
An investigation by Collective Fashion Justice and Australia 's Animal Justice Party uncovered mislabeled animal fur products being sold in Victoria. Children's vests from fashion brand Suttons UGG, labelled as '100 per cent Australian sheepskin or wool', were found to contain domestic cat and rabbit fur through forensic testing. Two beanies sold at a Queen Victoria market in Melbourne, labelled as 100 per cent acrylic, were revealed to be made from fox and raccoon dog fur. These discoveries have prompted animal rights groups and the Animal Justice Party to call for a statewide ban on the sale of all animal fur in Victoria. Previous efforts include a 2004 ban on cat and dog fur import/export and a 2020 investigation by Consumer Affairs Victoria that found widespread mislabeling of fur products prompted warnings to be issued to fur sellers.
