Al Safy Group is investing $80m to expand its factory in 6th of October City, aiming to increase production capacity and meet rising demand for its high-tech product lines.
Global tech giant Xiaomi has chosen the facility to manufacture its smartphones and smart screens—reflecting confidence in Al Safy's industrial capabilities and Egypt's growing competitiveness in the technology sector.
Through this strategic partnership, Xiaomi is not only producing its devices in Egypt but also contributing to the country's technological advancement, leveraging Egypt's strategic location and ambitions as a regional hub.
Utilising one of the most advanced manufacturing infrastructures in the Middle East and Africa, Xiaomi is integrating global expertise with Egyptian efficiency at the Al Safy factory to produce a range of smart devices.
Diaa El Shaarawy, Chief Operating Officer of Al Safy Group, stated: 'Our factory is aligned with the latest global manufacturing technologies through advanced infrastructure and diverse production lines. It currently operates 25 specialised lines, 19 of which are dedicated to Xiaomi. These include six lines for television screens with an annual capacity of 500,000 units, and 12 lines for smartphones with an annual output of up to 3 million units. We also operate a packaging line and are adding new lines for smartwatches, routers, advanced cameras, and headphones—further diversifying our production and responding to growing market needs.'
Islam Adel, General Manager of the Al Safy factory, said: 'Al Safy not only keeps pace with global manufacturing standards—it surpasses them in many areas. We adhere to rigorous international quality benchmarks, supported by ORT labs for durability testing, precision testing of components and final products, and compliance with ISO certifications 9001, 14001, and 45001. These all reflect our commitment to excellence.'
As Xiaomi's primary manufacturing partner in Egypt and the wider region, Al Safy produces smartphones and smart screens to the same quality standards as those manufactured in China. According to Adel, this localisation strategy has reduced import costs, enhanced the competitiveness of Egyptian-made tech products, and opened up new export markets across Africa and the Arab world through Egypt's trade agreements.
Al Safy Group aims to position its facility as a regional industrial hub, capitalising on Egypt's strategic geographic location and broad network of preferential trade agreements. The group continues to increase its investments and expand production lines—reinforcing Egypt's role as a rising force in electronics manufacturing and advanced industries in the region.

Philip Morris Egypt raises cigarette, heated tobacco prices - Society

Philip Morris Egypt has released a new price list for its full range of tobacco products, including traditional cigarettes under the Merit, Marlboro, and L&M brands and heated tobacco products such as HEETS and TEREA. The company confirmed that the updated prices are displayed on product packaging through a QR code, a system introduced in 2022 across both cigarette packs and heated tobacco sticks. The announcement comes just days after the Egyptian parliament approved limited amendments to the value-added tax (VAT) law. Ali Nafzat Kerman, Managing Director of Philip Morris Egypt and the Levant, said the company remains committed to addressing the needs of adult smokers and nicotine users in Egypt while also supporting its broader vision of a smoke-free future. The new official prices are as follows: Merit packs are priced at EGP 105, Marlboro at EGP 97, Marlboro Crafted at EGP 79, and L&M at EGP 76. For heated tobacco products, TEREA packs are listed at EGP 76, TEREA Capsules at EGP 80, and HEETS at EGP 69. Philip Morris Egypt urged retailers and distributors to adhere strictly to the announced prices. The company's parent, Philip Morris International, produces a mix of traditional tobacco products and smoke-free alternatives, including heat-not-burn devices, nicotine pouches, and e-vapor products. In May 2024, Philip Morris International acquired a 14.7 percent indirect minority stake in Eastern Company, Egypt's largest cigarette manufacturer. Egypt, Canada FMs discuss bilateral ties, regional developments - Foreign Affairs

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand discussed strengthening bilateral relations and recent regional developments in a phone call on Tuesday, one day after a conversation between President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The call, initiated by the Canadian side, marked Anand's first engagement with Egypt since her appointment to the position. Abdelatty congratulated her on the new role and expressed Egypt's interest in expanding economic and trade ties with Canada. He invited Canadian companies to invest in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and water resources. According to a statement from Egypt's Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty outlined recent government efforts to support the private sector and improve the country's investment climate. He also stressed the importance of building on the 12th round of political consultations between the two countries, which included an Egyptian business delegation's visit to Ottawa in April. That delegation, led by Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, Ambassador Sameh Aboul-Enein, explored opportunities for economic cooperation, including expanding trade and investment partnerships. During the visit, officials presented details of Egypt's investment incentives and measures aimed at attracting foreign capital and boosting exports to Canada. The delegation also met with researchers and academics at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The two ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East, with Abdelatty highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. He outlined Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire, facilitate the release of captives and hostages, and enable the flow of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid into the Strip. Abdelatty also referenced Egypt's plans to host an international conference on Gaza's early recovery and reconstruction once a ceasefire is achieved. He reiterated Egypt's call for a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the 4 June 1967 borders and the creation of an independent Palestinian state, warning that without such a framework, cycles of violence would continue. Abdelatty also stressed the importance of both Israel and Iran adhering to ceasefire agreements and urged regional and international powers to help de-escalate tensions and pursue diplomatic solutions. He reaffirmed Egypt's support for renewed negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme. The conversation also included an exchange of views on conflicts in Libya, Sudan, and Yemen and concerns over Red Sea security. Canadian Foreign Minister Anand, for her part, praised Egypt's role in ceasefire negotiations and broader efforts to promote peace and security in the Middle East, describing Egypt as a 'cornerstone of regional stability.'
