Thingnes Boe claims pursuit gold
LENZERHEIDE, SWITZERLAND:
Norway's He won the slalom gold clocking aggregate time of 1min 54.02sece held off the challenge of American Campbell Wright to win gold in a thrilling men's 12.5km pursuit at the International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Championships on Sunday.
Thingnes Boe, who won the sprint gold on Saturday, completed the course in 32 minutes 26.9 seconds to claim a record-extending 22nd individual world gold, 8.6 seconds ahead of Wright.
Eric Perrot of France, who like the American hit 19 of his 20 shots, took the bronze medal. The 31-year-old Norwegian winner, who has said he will retire at the end of the season, had two misses in the shooting but managed to stay ahead of Wright, despite seeming to slow down considerably over the final 800 metres.
It was Thingnes Boe's third pursuit gold in a row at the World Championships, while New-Zealand-born Wright, who switched to competing for the U.S. in 2023, picked up his second silver medal in two days after another fine performance in the sprint. Earlier in the afternoon, Franziska Preuss displayed nerves of steel to gold for Germany in the women's 10km pursuit at the International Biathlon Union World Championships, with Sweden's Elvira Oeberg taking silver and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet of France bronze.
Preuss hit all 20 shots to win in a time of 26 minutes 58.9 seconds, 39.1 seconds ahead of Oeberg, who passed Braisaz-Bouchet late on the final lap to snatch silver by 1.9 seconds after a frenetic sprint to the line.
Preuss, runner-up to Braisaz-Bouchet in the sprint, opened up a big lead before the final shoot and calmly rattled off her last five standing shots to turn the final two kilometres into a victory lap as she claimed her first individual world gold.

South Africa to Test new players against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo
South Africa tasted long-awaited success with victory in the World Test Championship final against Australia earlier this month, but there will be several new faces for the first Test against Zimbabwe that starts in Bulawayo on Saturday. Captain Temba Bavuma has not recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in the five-wicket win at Lord's, while batters Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs, and bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi, are all rested. The latter will be available for the second Test, but with seven of the XI who started at Lord's missing the series opener at the Queen's Sports Club, it will be a new-look line-up with much to prove. World Test Championship format needs revamping despite riveting final 'I think there's a lot of guys who want to prove a point, why they're here, and how well they've played over the last couple of domestic seasons to get here,' all-rounder Wiaan Mulder told reporters. 'We look at ourselves as world champions. That's the standard we set for ourselves. Everybody has that in the back of their mind. We are not trying to become something new. 'The guys that are going to fill a spot or take someone like Ricks' (Rickelton) or Marco's (Jansen) place are going to put them under pressure when they come back.' Emma Raducanu's tears of joy
Emma Raducanu held back tears after sealing her place in the second round of the Eastbourne Open, while Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova survived match points to progress on Tuesday. Raducanu fought back from losing the opening set to American Ann Li to win 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 6-1 after nearly two-and-a-half hours on court. "It feels incredible. I want to thank the crowd for getting me through some really sticky moments," the former US Open champion said in her on-court interview. "It really meant a lot to me and I'm really proud of how I fought back after losing the first set. I'm very, very happy to come through that. "It was tough, it was up and down, but from the middle of the second set I think I found another gear and a another level." Raducanu missed last week's Berlin Open due to a back problem she has been nursing since before the French Open. But, aside from a slip and fall on the grass in set one, she appeared to come through her opening examination on England's south coast unscathed. Raducanu next faces Australian teenager Maya Joint, who knocked out two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur on Monday. Kreickova crashed out in the first round at Queen's two weeks ago on her return to the grass for the first time since her triumph at the All England Club last year. Britain's Harriet Dart had two match points on her own serve to secure arguably the biggest win of her career in the third set before the Czech fought back for a 6-3 6-7 (4/7) 7-5 victory. Kreickova will face another Brit in round two following Jodie Burrage's 6-3 6-2 win over Japan's Moyuka Uchijima. Photo: AFP Chelsea beat Esperance of Tunisia 3-0 on Tuesday to set up a Club World Cup last-16 tie against Benfica, who defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 earlier in searing heat. Elsewhere minnows Auckland City claimed a memorable draw against Boca Juniors while Los Angeles FC bowed out of the tournament with a stalemate against Flamengo. In Charlotte, Andreas Schjelderup scored the only goal for Benfica in their Group C clash with Bayern in front of 33,287 fans, finishing first-time from a cutback by his fellow Norwegian Fredrik Aursnes in the 13th minute. The German champions, who left the likes of Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the bench at kick-off, were unable to come back in sweltering afternoon conditions in heatwave-hit North Carolina. Kane and Olise came on at half-time and Bayern did then look more dangerous, but Leroy Sane was denied when clean through by Benfica's Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. A draw would have allowed Bayern to top the section but a Kimmich effort that found the net was ruled out for offside and Trubin denied Sane again while Kane mistimed a header late on.
