Five, including 2 girls, killed in UP's Kaushambi as mud mound collapses on them
Five persons, including two girls and three women, were killed and four others were injured after a mud mound collapsed on them near a pond at Tikar Deeh village of Kaushambi district's Sirathu tehsil on Monday morning, police said.
The incident occurred when the victims were extracting soil from the mound.
The deceased were identified as Mamta (35), Lalita (35), Kachrahi (60), Uma Devi (15), and Khushi (16) — all local residents.
The injured, all minors, are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Doctors said their condition was stable.
The government has granted an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of those who died in the incident.
According to the police, they received information early Monday morning about a mud mound collapsing on several women at Tikar Deeh village. A police team arrived at the site, where locals were already trying to rescue the victims from the mud.
The police extracted the victims from the mound and rushed them to hospital, where five were declared dead. A JCB machine was later brought in to ensure that no other victims remained trapped inside.
The police said it was found that the victims had gone to collect mud for plastering their mud houses.
They were extracting wet mud from the middle of the mound, as it is more suitable for plastering, said Awadhesh Kumar Vishwakarma, Circle Officer, Kaushambi.
This caused a crack in the mound which collapsed on the victims, he added.

Following this disclosure, DRI officers recovered the pouch, which contained 1,373 grams of foreign-origin gold. During further questioning, the crew member admitted to smuggling gold on previous occasions. FIR Against Supertech, Its Promoter For Defrauding IDBI Bank Of Rs 126.07 Crore
New Delhi: The CBI has registered an FIR against Noida-based construction firm Supertech Limited and its promoter R K Arora among others for allegedly defrauding IDBI Bank of Rs 126.07 crore, officials said Saturday. Arora has been named in the FIR alongside whole-time directors Sangita Arora, Mohit Arora, Parul Arora, Vikas Kansal, Pradeep Kumar, Anil Kumar Sharma, and Anil Kumar Jain, in addition to the Noida-based company, they said. On Saturday, the CBI conducted coordinated search operations at five locations linked to the accused," including official and residential premises in Noida and Ghaziabad," in connection with the case. During the raids, agency officials seized cash amounting to Rs 28.5 lakh, CBI's spokesperson said in a statement. The case was initiated following a complaint from IDBI Bank, which alleged that the accused had conspired to misappropriate sanctioned loan funds through fraudulent means. According to the FIR, the bank alleged that the company and its directors submitted forged documents to secure credit facilities under false pretences. The loan account was subsequently declared a wilful default and categorised as fraudulent, allegedly resulting in wrongful losses totalling Rs 126.07 crore to IDBI Bank Ltd., the CBI said.

Five arrested for duping family to unearth ‘hidden treasure', lose Rs 15.30 lakh
Five members were arrested by the Karimnagar rural police on Friday for defrauding a family of Rs 15.30 lakh on the pretext of performing 'pujas' to ward off 'evil eye' and unearth a 'hidden treasure' in Kothapally mandal. The arrested persons were identified as E. Raju of Chandragiri, Durgaiah of Agraharam, Penugonda Raju, Ajay, and Satish of Cheerlavancha villages in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. The accused allegedly duped Praveen of Sriramulapalli village by falsely promising to get his family rid of problems and ensure the well-being of his ailing parents. They allegedly tricked him into paying Rs 15.30 lakh in different instalments on the pretext of some 'pujas' in the past fortnight. When Praveen finally realised their plan, after they started threatening him for more money, he lodged a complaint with the local police. A police team led by Karimnagar rural inspector of police A Niranjan Reddy, nabbed the five individuals at Chintakunta on Friday afternoon. The police recovered Rs 15.30 lakh, seven tola gold, three cars, and seven mobile phones from the arrested individuals.
