‘Not surprised' snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan may leave Hong Kong: senior official
Hong Kong's immigration chief has said he is 'not surprised' by the possibility snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan may relocate to the Middle East after the player
obtained residency through a talent scheme last year.

Director of immigration Benson Kwok Joon-fung's comments on Sunday came after O'Sullivan indicated in an interview following his World Championship appearance that he might change his residency arrangement.
Kwok acknowledged Hong Kong faced 'stiff competition' when it came to attracting top talent, adding the 49-year-old seven-time world champion also had a snooker academy in Dubai and that he respected his decision.
'It's not surprising he would choose to develop in the Middle East. But he has also been recently preparing to open his snooker academy and club in Hong Kong,' Kwok told a radio programme.
'He hasn't been able to return in the past few months to prepare for his new ventures and life here, so a definitive decision on his future residence may need to wait until he comes back to Hong Kong.'

Kwok added that since the adoption of talent acquisition policies in 2022, the department had approved more than 310,000 applications, with 400,000 to 500,000 people coming to Hong Kong, including family members of the main applicants.

Hong Kong triathlete Bailee Brown set to return from injury ordeal in mainland China race
Bailee Brown has been cleared to return from her injury nightmare and join a 16-strong Hong Kong contingent at the Asia Triathlon Cup in Taizhou on Saturday. While the men's big three of Jason Ng Tai-long, Oscar Coggins and Robin Elg will skip the event, some of their teammates competing on the mainland this weekend have been warned they were fighting for their international futures. The luckless Brown needed three operations since badly damaging a finger in December. However, head coach Andrew Wright said the 25-year-old was in rude health following an unbroken four-week training block. 'Cream always rises to the top, and people who are talented bounce back from anything,' he added. 'She's as fit as she was before the injury, although not as fit or as fast as she'd have been without it. She'll be nearly there by the National Games [in November].' Wright said being able to train and fulfil her potential had significantly lifted Brown's mood. 'When you're stopped from doing what you're passionate about, it's a bit depressing,' he added. Frankie Lor Fu-chuen is backing the brilliance of Zac Purton to be the difference when Bottomuptogether tackles Saturday's Class Two HKU Business School And Faculty Of Engineering Handicap (1,200m) at Sha Tin. Bottomuptogether has compiled a strong record over 1,200m on the Sha Tin turf this season without actually winning, racing at the course and distance five times for four seconds and a third. A galloper who likes to race on pace, Bottomuptogether will have to overcome barrier 10 of 11 if he is to add to his wins under Purton at Happy Valley and on the Sha Tin dirt this season. 'This time he has drawn 10, which is a little bit awkward because inside him he has some horses who are quite fast,' said Lor. 'It will depend on how he jumps. If he jumps better than the others maybe he can lead, but if someone goes crazy in front maybe he can take a sit. After three Sha Tin turf wins under Purton to begin his career last season – two at 1,000m and one at 1,200m – saw Bottomuptogether's rating jump 27 points to 79, the four-year-old has pushed onto triple figures this campaign. While Lor feels it's been a slow burn for the son of Shamus Award, he hopes the 102-rated speedster has Group racing in his future. 'I hope so, because he's a horse who has improved slowly, slowly. He just gets a little bit better each time. He's still young, he's only four years old, so I hope next season we can try for Group Races,' said Lor, pointing to the fact Bottomuptogether's full-brother and stablemate, Beauty Live, has won at a mile in Class Two.
