Cristiano Ronaldo set to sign new two-year contract at Al-Nassr

Rhyl Journal11 hours ago

The 40-year-old Portugal captain's deal was due to expire at the end of June.
Ronaldo posted on social media 'the chapter is over' following Al-Nassr's final league game of the season last month, fuelling speculation that he was to leave the Riyadh club.
But the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is now set to stay in Saudi Arabia.
The forward joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 as a free agent after leaving Manchester United following a controversial interview in which he criticised the Premier League club.
Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr and netted 35 last season to win the SPL's Golden Boot award for top scorer.
Grazie per tutto! 🙏🏽 https://t.co/lGfKmNNVGc

Al-Nassr are currently without a manager after parting company with Stefano Pioli on Wednesday.
Former AC Milan and Inter boss Pioli, who was appointed in September, led Al-Nassr to a third-placed finish in the SPL last season, 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad.

Former Man United star 'set to sign for Burnley' as a free agent in return to the Premier League after his side were relegated last season

A former Manchester United star is returning to the Premier League with Burnley after his side were relegated last season. The Clarets will return to the top flight this season after just one year away, with Scott Parker leading them back to second place in the Championship with a stellar defensive record. They conceded just 16 goals in 46 matches as they reached 100 points, finishing second only on goal difference after Leeds scored 95 goals to Burnley's 69. That hasn't stopped the club looking to reinforce their defence, however, and they are now on the verge of signing a defender who can play at either centre back or right back, according to a report. The Athletic suggest Axel Tuanzebe is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a deal to move to Turf Moor from Ipswich, two years after he joined Kieran McKenna 's side. The now-27-year-old played 37 times for United's first team after making his way through the academy, before leaving for Ipswich on a permanent basis in 2023. Tuanzebe, who suffered a bizarre thumb injury last season, joined United at the age of eight. He became the first first-year scholar to captain the first team since Gary Neville, and made his first team debut in January 2017 at the age of 19. He struggled for first team game time, however, and went on loan five times - three of those spells being at Aston Villa. The defender first joined Villa in January 2018, but made just five appearances before the end of the season. He did, though, head back to Villa Park for the entirety of the next campaign as Villa were promoted to the Premier League. After that campaign, he started to play more at United before injuries stared to come into play. He joined Villa again for the 2021-22 season, but was recalled in January. After that, he spent time at Napoli and Stoke on a temporary basis, before joining Ipswich permanently in the summer of 2023. Now, though, his contract is up and he is seemingly set to join Burnley as a free agent. Ipswich did offer him a new deal. He will become the third signing of the summer for the Clarets, who have already secured moves for Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord and goalkeeper Max Weiss from Karlsruher in Germany.

This is going to be Michael 2.0 – Van Gerwen ‘excited' to return in New York

Van Gerwen is back at the oche for the US Darts Masters in New York in what is his first tournament since the final round of weekly Premier League nights in Sheffield on May 22. The Dutchman, who will wear a new shirt at the Madison Square Garden event, has taken time away from the game to deal with his divorce from wife Daphne. A post shared by Michael van Gerwen (@mvg180) But he is ready to get back into action in an event he has won twice before. 'This is going to be a new Michael. Michael 2.0,' he said. 'I am really excited, everyone knows I have had very tough times, still going on, but I am dealing with it, living by the moment. 'I still love what I do. I play darts. We all need to understand one thing, there is only one thing I love more and that is my kids. 'I wouldn't be here if I wasn't here to win, I want to come here and put my head on something else, that is something that is really important. 'I also need to be realistic, I have never been in this situation, never had so many weeks of not playing competitive darts. My head says something else, my head says I have to smash it.' Van Gerwen will be in a strong field that also includes Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price. Humphries is yet to win this event but is desperate to add it to his collection. 'It's great to be back, it's such an iconic venue, I always look forward to this one most on the World Series,' the world number one said. 'This is the one all the players want to win, it is really special. 🇺🇸 The countdown is on! 'Hopefully I can tick another thing off the CV that I have always wanted to win.' Nathan Aspinall is also playing and hinted he has a better chance of winning without his wife and the distraction of the bright lights of New York. 'It's great to come to America, normally my wife has been with me, but I'm on my own so it's a bit different to previous years,' Aspinall said. 'I think I'm going to be a bit more focused on the tournament itself than previous years, which hopefully means I can go and win it.'
