Fifty years after it scared the world out of the water and into movie theaters, Jaws will be the subject of a new exhibition at the Academy Museum.

The first exhibition at the museum focused on a single film, Jaws: The Exhibition, will feature over 200 original objects from the set of Steven Spielberg's legendary blockbuster — everything from concept drawings to costumes to mechanical shark schematics to a prop dorsal fin that appears in the film.
The exhibit will be curated with unprecedented access to Spielberg's personal collection and The Amblin Hearth Archive and NBCUniversal Archives & Collections, and will feature 'behind-the-scenes revelations and interactive moments,' according to an Academy Museum statement.
Since its 2021 opening, The Academy Museum has been home to the sole surviving full-scale model of the Jaws shark, known as 'Bruce the Shark.' At 25-feet-long, it's the largest object in the Academy's permanent collection, greeting visitors outside the museum's 4th floor exhibition space.
Jaws: The Exhibition is organized by senior exhibitions curator Jenny He and assistant curator Emily Rauber Rodriguez. The exhibition will be accompanied by a dynamic series of film screenings, exclusive new merchandise and public programs to be announced at a later date.

Indiana Jones' Whip Belongs in a Museum, Unless You've Got $500,000 to Spare

The iconic bullwhip, whip holster, and belt set from 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' are going up for auction. It's one of the most recognizable weapons in movie history: the bullwhip wielded by Harrison Ford's rakish adventurer in the Indiana Jones movies. If you're an Indy superfan—particularly of the 1989 series entry Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade—and you have a rather large spare stash of cash, here's your chance to own not just the whip, but also the whip holster and belt set used in the Steven Spielberg classic. Propstore has this drool-worthy treasure as the featured item in an entertainment-focused auction coming up in September. The whip uncoiled is eight feet long and was made by David Morgan, who the auction house identifies in a press release as 'the master whipmaker who supplied all the original whips for the classic Indiana Jones trilogy.' It's in excellent condition and is said to be the only known set of whip, belt, and holster available to private collectors. It's been in one such collection for years—an unnamed 'production source' who worked on Last Crusade—and this is its first time coming up for sale. The lot also comes with a tag from the film's production, designating its use in the 'Rideaway Scene,' as well as a 'production-used call sheet' that ties the whip to the film's memorable motorcycle chase sequence filmed mostly in Marin County, California. That said, 'the motorcycle chase was filmed at the end of the production schedule and the whip, belt, and holster may also have been used in earlier filming at the studio in the UK or on location in Spain.' More details: 'The whip and holster remain secured by metal wire ties added by the props team to hold the set together. The whip also bears dark markings from previous bindings, consistent with how it was worn coiled on Indy's belt during filming.' This thing is undeniably badass and is estimated to command an eye-watering $250,000 to $500,000. It may belong in a museum, but imagine just casually having it in your home? Learn more about the auction here, and check out all the images below. If the price tag on the whip is too rich for your blood, a more attainable Holy Grail—Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on the big screen—is also something to look forward to. Fathom Entertainment is bringing it back for Father's Day, with screenings planned for June 14-15 and 18. Find out theater and ticket details here.

Celebrate 10 Years of Perfectly Adorable Pop Culture Art From Scott C

There's no mistaking the artwork of Scott Campbell. It's funny, it's colorful, and even though it can look simple, it still somehow captures a moment of pop culture nostalgia in a few quick brushstrokes. Campbell is best known for his ongoing series called Great Showdowns, which we've previously covered on the site. But, Showdowns are not the only thing he does. He also does large-scale works, creates books, and helps with design concepts—and everything has been building up to one big, epic, mega show, which is happening this weekend. It's fittingly called 'The Big Show' and it opens at 6 p.m. June 7 in New York City. That'll be your first chance to buy originals big and small, prints of several new pieces (including the Steven Spielberg and Hayao Miyazaki pieces below), and more. It'll then remain on display through June 28, with leftovers going online at 1 p.m. ET June 12. Click here for the address, hours, and more. Basically, though, this is a show that celebrates Campbell's entire body of work, which ranges from huge, sweeping pop culture collections to original concepts, book illustrations, and more. 'I have had exhibitions in the past to celebrate my book releases and various other popular culture and conceptual experiences, but I have never had an exhibition that encompasses all of these worlds together before,' Campbell told io9 via email. 'I have accumulated quite a body of work over these past 10 years from various projects and have experienced many life changes from moving to Los Angeles to meeting my wife and starting a wonderful little family. The influences for the stories and ideas for these paintings has evolved over the years along with these experiences. Seeing everything together on these walls is like walking through these experiences again. And with the release of my first graphic novel series in the fall, a project I have been working on since the late 2000s, it felt like the exact right time to reflect on all of this. I find great comfort in all of these worlds and am very glad to be spending time with them again.' Below, we have images of just a few of the over 100 original watercolor paintings, sculptures, prints, books, pins, and more that are in the show. Several of these are new but most pieces have previously been released. They've just never been on display, or for sale, in their original form. Presented by Spoke Art, 'The Big Show' opens at 6 p.m. June 7 at Harman Projects, 210 Rivington St., New York, NY. It'll then remain on display through June 28, with leftovers going online at 1 p.m. EST June 12. Click here for additional information.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Buy an Australian Sailing Team

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are buying a competitive sailing team. The Deadpool & Wolverine duo are now co-owners of the Bonds Flying Roos, the Australian team that competes in SailGP, the international sailing competition founded in 2019 by Oracle founder Larry Ellison and world champion yachtsman Russell Coutts. SailGP sees 12 national teams competing in races held around the world using technologically advanced catamarans. Advertisement More from The Hollywood Reporter The addition of Reynolds and Jackman as co-owners coincides with Bonds, an Australian underwear brand, coming aboard as sponsor of the team, which will compete at the New York Grand Prix this weekend. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure,' Reynolds and Jackman said in a joint statement. 'Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our Bonds. No further questions.' 'This is an incredible milestone for us and for our sport, having global icons Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds come on board as co-owners of our team,' added Tom Slingsby, driver, CEO & co-owner of the Bonds Flying Roos. 'They bring unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of humour that fits perfectly with our team. With Bonds joining as our Title Partner and the launch of the Bonds Flying Roos, we're building something distinctly Australian; a team driven by spirit, resilience, and national pride.' Advertisement Reynolds has been active in the sports space, most recently acquiring the Welsh soccer team Wrexham AFC with his friend Rob McElhenney. The team has seen great success since the acquisition, and its growth has been chronicled in the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. Reynolds and McElhenney also invested in the Alpine Formula 1 team, as well as the Mexican soccer team Club Necaxa. Best of The Hollywood Reporter Sign up for THR's Newsletter.
