Fort Cobb-Broxton tops Calumet for Oklahoma high school baseball Class B title three-peat
SHAWNEE — Eli Willits and his Fort Cobb-Broxton teammates live and breathe baseball.
The Mustangs spend countless hours on the field and have essentially been playing together their whole lives.
The result has been the development of a powerhouse in Class B baseball.

'We come to the field every day ready to work, ready to learn something new,' said Willits, the fourth-ranked prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft, according to MLB.com.
'And to know that our hard work and dedication to the game has paid off, I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else.'
Fort Cobb-Broxton wrapped up another season to remember Saturday as the top-ranked Mustangs beat No. 2 Calumet 9-2 in the championship game at Shawnee High School.
Fort Cobb-Broxton (26-9) has now won three straight titles and five overall in the spring. The Mustangs also completed a three-peat in the fall, giving them all six titles in spring and fall since 2022.

Fort Cobb-Broxton edged Calumet 2-1 in last year's title game, but it was a different story this time. The Mustangs overwhelmed Calumet (18-10).
Willits, a senior OU signee, got things rolling in the top of the first inning with a triple off Calumet senior Kyler Thiessen before scoring on a groundout by senior Tanner McAdoo.
Fort Cobb-Broxton added two runs in the second frame before pulling away with a five-run fifth inning, while Fort Cobb-Broxton senior Blaine Bellamy dominated on the mound.
He pitched all seven innings, allowed just two hits and struck out two, which were the final batters he faced.

'I knew I wasn't going to strike a whole lot of them out,' Bellamy said. 'I just trust the guys behind me. I know they're going to make plays.'
Bellamy is the nephew of Fort Cobb-Broxton coach Dale Bellamy.
Dale was proud of his guys Saturday.
'That's what they work for all year long,' he said. 'From the first one they won to this one, they've got in there and competed and worked their butts off all fall, spring, summer to get where they're at here.'
Vote: Who will be Oklahoma high school baseball player of the year?
Fort Cobb-Broxton's Breylan York (20) celebrates after Fort Cobb-Broxton beat Calumet during a OSSAA Class B baseball championship game at Shawnee High School in Shawnee, Okla., on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Willits finished 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in one run, while McAdoo went 3 for 5 and had four RBIs.

Sophomore Kohlton Baker also had three hits and finished 3 for 4.
'It's the best feeling,' Blaine Bellamy said. 'To end it beside some guys that I can call my brothers now, it's just a bond that won't be broken.'
Fort Cobb-Broxton has a tight group, and the Mustangs' chemistry is something they value as much as anything.
'It starts at the top with Coach Bellamy,' said Willits, the son of OU associate head coach and former big leaguer Reggie Willits.
'He's a great coach. He's a great leader. So just having him involved in everything, we have team bonding all the time. We make sure to show up to practice ready to learn. He's a great coach, and I wouldn't want to play for anyone else.'

Wales will go on attack in Belgium, says Bellamy
Craig Bellamy has won five and drawn four of his nine games as Wales head coach [Getty Images] World Cup qualifier: Belgium v Wales Venue: King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels Date: Monday, 9 June Kick off: 19:45 BST Coverage: Live on BBC One, S4C, iPlayer, BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru, the BBC Sport website and app, plus live text commentary. Advertisement Head coach Craig Bellamy vowed Wales would go on the attack in Belgium on Monday after beating Liechtenstein to top their World Cup qualifying group. Friday night's 3-0 triumph in Cardiff extended Wales' unbeaten start under Bellamy to nine games and took them two points clear at the summit of Group J. They face their sternest challenge yet under their former captain on Monday when they travel to Brussels to face the group's top seeds. Belgium only started their campaign on Friday, conceding a late equaliser in North Macedonia to leave them six points behind Wales, albeit with two games in hand. Advertisement Asked if he thought that result put Belgium under pressure before facing Wales, Bellamy said: "No, I don't. These games can happen. They haven't lost. "Did I expect them to get three points? I did. I need to see the game back to give you a better rundown on what happened and how it happened, and even for myself. But, yeah, North Macedonia played their part, so good. "We go there and I'm not camping. I'm not sitting back. It's not in my make-up. I can't do it, I don't want to do it. "So let me watch the game a little bit more. I've got a little bit more in my head but I'm really excited about it." Advertisement Wales were utterly dominant against Liechtenstein, as they would have expected to be against predominantly part-time opponents ranked 205th in the world. Although they were initially frustrated by their determined, defensive visitors, Wales secured victory with goals by Joe Rodon, Harry Wilson and Kieffer Moore – and the winning margin could have been far greater. "There is a lot I liked. I'd really like us to make this six, seven, eight. That's what we need to push," said Bellamy. "These games have never been easy for our nation. We have a proven record of that and the chances we created we could make this more. Advertisement "We'll get to that, but I liked the reactions as soon as we lose we get it back. The mentality of the players was really good. Did we expect to win? Of course we did. "Did we expect such a slow game? I felt our ball boys could have been a bit quicker. "We are at home so we have a choice in that as well. I'm going to be looking for them in a bit - I'm not, I'm joking."

Craig Bellamy promises Wales will not sit back and defend against Belgium
Craig Bellamy promised not to sit back and defend against group favourites Belgium on Monday after brushing aside Liechtenstein to go top of their World Cup qualifying group. Wales coasted to a 3-0 win over Liechtenstein, the world's 205th ranked team, as second-half goals from Harry Wilson and Kieffer Moore added to Joe Rodon's 39th-minute opener. Advertisement It was defender Rodon's first international goal and Wales had complete domination of a one-sided contest with 27 goal attempts to zero. Wales face a far tougher challenge in Brussels, although the Dragons did have the bonus of Belgium being held 1-1 in North Macedonia on Friday night, thanks to a late home equaliser. Bellamy said: 'We go there and I'm not camping. I'm not sitting back. It's not in my make-up. I can't do it, I don't want to do it. 'I've got a little bit more in my head, but I'm really excited about it. I'll try and absorb this one but then, yeah, get ready for that.' Victory took Wales to the top of their World Cup qualifying section with seven points from three games – but Bellamy could not resist a dig at the Welsh ball boys on the perimeter of the pitch. Advertisement 'There is a lot I liked,' said Bellamy. 'I'd really like us to make this six, seven, eight. That's what we need to push. 'These games have never been easy four our nation. We have a proven record of that. 'The mentality of the players was really good. Did we expect to win? Of course we did. Did we expect such a slow game? Joe Rodon celebrated after scoring the first goal of his Wales career (Nigel French/PA) 'I felt our ball boys could have been a bit quicker. We are at home so we have a choice in that as well. 'I'm going to be looking for them in a bit – I'm not. I'm joking!' Victory came at a price as Neco Williams, one of Wales' best performers since Bellamy took charge last summer, was forced off midway through the first half with a nasty-looking injury. Advertisement The Nottingham Forest full-back, in trying to cross on the byline midway through the first half, landed awkwardly and was in obvious pain before leaving the field on a stretcher. Neco Williams leaft the pitch distraught after being carried off on a stretcher in Wales' 3-0 victory over Liechtenstein (Nigel French/PA) Williams appears a serious doubt for Monday's clash with Belgium. 'Give us a few hours,' said Bellamy. 'We just don't know. We'll find out tomorrow morning (Saturday). 'The medical staff will be racing with it, we'll make sure he's looked after. 'We'll find more and relay that message as soon as we know.'

Wales brush aside Liechtenstein to maintain Bellamy's unbeaten reign
The unbeaten reign of Craig Bellamy continued as his Wales side propelled themselves to the top of their World Cup qualifying group with a thumping win. Bellamy was appointed head coach in July 2024 and the national side have drawn four and won five under him. Wales leapfrogged North Macedonia, who drew 1-1 to Belgium on Friday. The Red Devils are only just getting their qualifiers under way because they were involved in Nations League playoffs in March. Advertisement Related: Squad goals: Toney's inclusion offers window into Tuchel's England approach Belgium are the favourites to top the group with the prize for doing so automatic qualification. But Wales's great run has put them in a good position to challenge Domenico Tedesco's Belgium, who they play on Monday and have a history of upsetting with that famous 3-1 win in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016. Wales were firmly focused on the opposition in front of them and on Friday Liechtenstein made their presence known. While the visiting fans were heavily outnumbered, they were the ones in the car park pre-match who could be heard singing songs and shouting chants. They made the trip to see if their side could end a 35-game losing streak, which has lasted five years. The two countries have met three times before with Wales victorious on all three occasions and Liechtenstein were winless in their past 43 World Cup qualifiers. The hosts were undoubtedly huge favourites and under cloudy conditions they ensured Liechtenstein's wait for a win continued. Advertisement Whistling, boos and chants of 'Wales' drowned out Liechtenstein's national anthem before the spine-tingling Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau began. The music was cut to allow the Wales supporters to belt out the anthem. They played their part and it was the players turn to perform. Harry Wilson, who returned after missing the March qualifiers with injury, took an early free-kick and went for goal but his attempt was fired wide. Wales kept up the pressure, particularly through the attacking spark of Sorba Thomas, but the visitors soaked it up. While it was all Wales in the early stages, it was not all good news for the hosts as they were forced into an early change with Neco Williams off with injury. He needed a stretcher with a suspected hamstring problem and was shaking his head as he was wheeled along the touchline. Kieffer Moore and Ben Davies had close chances but Brennan Johnson, the Spurs hero from the Europa League final, came closest with a deft touch. Advertisement Benjamin Büchel, who has won Liechtenstein's player of the year three seasons in a row, made an incredible save. Ethan Ampadu, also returning to the side, was the next to take a shot with a bicycle kick almost beating Büchel but the Vaduz keeper nudged it over the bar. Liechtenstein had been well-drilled in defence but the simplest of set pieces unpicked the deadlock. A good delivery from Thomas allowed Joe Rodon to head home and so the half-time score stood at 1-0. Wales continued with their relentless attack but the visitors reverted to a brick wall with chances continually repelled. That was until Wilson headed an excellent shot, his fifth goal in seven games under Bellamy. The Fulham forward is the top scorer under the head coach. Moore then got his goal with a tap in before a ripple of applause came over the crowd in the 68th minute in memory of The Alarm's Mike Peters, who sang Wales's Euro 2020 anthem. He was an avid supporter of the team who died in April. The 68th minute was chosen in honour of The Alarm hit 68 Guns. Advertisement The pace of the game slowed but the result was already sewn up with it equalling the best win under Bellamy after a 4-1 victory against Iceland in the Nations League in November. Wales face their toughest test against Belgium in a few day's time and they will have to make history if they want to come away with maximum points as they have never won a match in Belgium.
