
Omran unveils design for first Club Med resort in Middle East
Muscat – Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) has unveiled the design of Club Med Musandam Resort, the first of its kind in the Middle East, during the International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF) in Berlin.
The resort will offer an all-inclusive luxury experience in Musandam, a region known for its fjords and mountainous coastline, and is aimed at strengthening Oman's profile as a high-end, sustainable tourism destination. It will include 300 premium rooms, wellness retreats, adventure activities, and dining options, with a design that integrates local materials and eco-friendly technologies to reduce environmental impact.
The architectural design was selected through the Club Med Musandam Design Competition, which drew international entries. The winning concept was presented by AW², a Paris-based architecture and interior design firm with projects in Saudi Arabia and beyond. The firm is known for its work on the Banyan Tree resort in Al Ula.
The resort's design blends elements of Omani heritage with modern sustainability standards, drawing on the natural landscape of Musandam for inspiration. It is expected to contribute to local employment, with over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, and support for SMEs and entrepreneurs.

This project reflects our vision to enrich Oman's tourism landscape with innovative and sustainable hospitality offerings that align with global industry trends.'
David Vély, vice president, Development at Club Med, added that this flagship project demonstrates strong environmental and human sensitivity, incorporating sustainable solutions that reinforce local integration and contribute to responsible development in harmony with the site. 'We believe that Club Med values and features are perfectly embodied in the project and well-tuned with what local families would like to experiment.'

Tourism master plan for Oman's White Mountain
MUSCAT, JUNE 7 Spanish-based tourism and hospitality industry consulting firm THR Strategic Tourism Advisors has announced that it has been appointed by Oman's Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to master plan the development of Jabal Al Abyadh (The White Mountain) into a sustainable tourism attraction. Located in the Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, Jabal Al Abyadh is the second highest peak in Oman, reaching an elevation of around 3,000 metres. Unlike other well-known mountain destinations in the governorate, notably Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Jabal Shams, which are connected by modern access to the summit of the White Mountain is only via graded tracks that are off-limits to only but the most skilled motorists. But with Jabal Al Abyadh enjoying almost the same favourable natural and weather-related characteristics as Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Jabal Shams – cooler climes, rugged landscapes, campsites and other features suited for adventure tourism – authorities have decided to open up this location to tourism development as well. 'We are excited to share that we've officially launched a project to develop a tourism master plan for Jabal Al Abyadh, also known as Oman's White Mountain,' said THR. The company added in a post that a team from THR, accompanied by representatives from the ministry and local experts, had recently made an initial site visit to 'explore this breathtaking destination, located less than a 2-hour drive from Muscat'. Commenting on the significance of the mountain destination, THR added: Al Abyadh holds remarkable potential for nature-based and cultural tourism, with its stunning wadis, rich archaeological sites, awe-inspiring caves, and above all the warm hospitality of its people. This visit was an essential step in understanding the area's assets and identifying opportunities for sustainable tourism development that honours both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region.' According to experts, the toponym 'White Mountain' is a reference to the presence of extensive limestone and ophiolite rock formations in Jabal Al Abyadh. Part of its appeal also stems from the presence of abandoned mountain villages and ancient Aflaj system, underscoring the mountain's historical value. Additionally, pastoral communities on the summit have preferred to live traditional lives as goat-herders while eschewing many of the creature comforts afforded by modern living. THR, which has undertaken over 1100 projects in around 70 countries, specialises in tourism and hospitality industry consulting, destination strategy, marketing and management, resorts and hotels, and tourism development plans.

Pact to advance urban air mobility in Oman
MUSCAT, JUNE 6 AeroVecto, an Oman-based startup specialising in sustainable air mobility solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Romanian-based LYNEports, a digital planning platform for advanced air mobility infrastructure, to support the rollout of hybrid electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aviation services in Oman and the wider GCC region. The partnership is set to take advanced air mobility services, currently in its nascency in Oman, to the next level. A number of Omani startups, in partnership with key players in the global international, are gearing up to introduce uncrewed air mobility services for, among other fields, cargo deliveries, passenger transportation, ambulance services, medical deliveries and even disaster relief. AeroVecto is credited with developing Shuttle, a hybrid eVTOL aircraft purposely built for mass public transportation. According to the company, the high-capacity aircraft will enhance current ground-based public transport by enabling convenient point-to-point travel. With a focus on passenger volume and comfort, Shuttle aims to revolutionise urban and intercity mobility, introducing a new era of clean, efficient and scalable air transport. Through the partnership, LYNEports will assist in planning and simulating AeroVecto's Shuttle network, ensuring each site meets aviation-grade safety standards, operational viability and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, by leveraging LYNEports' AI-driven platform, AeroVecto can evaluate ideal locations, model flight routes and visualise integrated transport systems, accelerating the adoption of advanced air mobility across Oman. $1 bn Li-ion battery materials project proposed in Oman
Muscat, June 5 Chinese global battery materials manufacturer Hunan Zhongke Electric Co Ltd, a publicly traded company listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, has announced that it plans to set up a first-ever lithium-ion battery anode production facility in the Sultanate of Oman with an investment estimated at $1.1 billion (equivalent to around 8 billion yuan). The proposed investment will be made through its Hong Kong-based wholly-owned subsidiary, Zhongke Shinzoom (Hong Kong) Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of its holding subsidiary Hunan Zhongke Shinzoom Graphite Co, Ltd. The project centres on the development of an integrated base for the production of 200,000 metric tonnes of lithium-ion battery anode materials annually. The facility, tipped to be built at Sohar Port and Free Zone, will be constructed in two phases, each with a planned capacity of 100,000 mt per year, and the construction period for each phase is expected to be 36 months. Zhongke specialises in developing, manufacturing, and distributing graphite negative electrode materials for lithium batteries used in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and energy storage. The company also produces electromagnetic equipment and other products. Its products are supplied to leading manufacturers of auto batteries in China and globally. Zhongke aims to capitalise on the restructuring of the global lithium battery supply chain by leveraging its Oman project to expand into international markets, tap into emerging opportunities, and position itself as a leading global brand in lithium-ion battery anode materials. Together with investments flowing into polysilicon, solar PV and module, and even wind turbine projects in Suhar and Al Duqm, the latest investment in lithium battery materials will enhance Oman's positioning as a regional hub for goods destined for the burgeoning global clean energy industry.
