The Xbox Showcase's most surprising reveal is a spooky British home renovation musical
Developer Friday Sundae revealed an eye-catching new game, There Are No Ghosts At the Grand, during the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. The project, set to launch in 2026 on Xbox and PC, is one part part home renovation game, one part British ghost story, and one part musical.
The debut trailer was one of many during a packed Xbox Games Showcase, but it stands out among the pack. The breakneck clip features talking cats, a full on musical sequence, magical power tools, and much more. If it all left you a little confused, Digital Trends learned more about how exactly the eclectic genre mash-up works.

There Are No Ghosts At the Grand is a narrative-driven adventure game follows Chris David, a man who inherits a dilapidated seaside hotel from his late father. His goal is to renovate the hotel in 30 days and nights using seven somewhat magical power tools. The trailer gives a glimpse if tools like sand blasters and furniture canons. Players can blast wallpaper away, vacuum up trash, redecorate, and more in first-person. It may look a bit like House Flipper or PowerWash Simulator at first glance, but that's not exactly the full picture.
The project isn't a life simulator, but rather a supernatural mystery game with some choice-driven gameplay. Cleaning the hotel, and the town around it, during the day will reveal details about what exactly happened at The Grand. Friday Sundae notes that there are several layers of deception at play during the 10 hour story, as even the game's hero is described as an unreliable narrator. Players will also be able to explore a small open-world in that time, where they can ride around the sea on a boat, search for buried treasure with a metal detector, or ride around on a scooter in search of side activities like mini-golf.
There are seven main areas to restore in the hotel and each one has an NPC tied to it who's a bit of a caretaker (and also a talking cat named Mr. Bones the Bastard). That's where the game's musical component comes in, as each one belts out original songs by Friday Sundae. The team describes it less like a traditional musical and more as a collection of British punk and ska records.
The gameplay completely changes once again when nightfall hits. Everything transforms into a horror game at that point, where players need to outrun ghosts as the hotel shifts. The power tools turn into weapons at that point, which can suck up or otherwise destroy specters.
So, to recap: house renovation mystery musical with open-world elements by day, Luigi's Mansion-esque horror game by night, all of which has to be completed within 30 days and 30 nights. Got that?
There Are No Ghosts At the Grand launches for Xbox and PC in 2026.

Microsoft reveals new handheld Xbox Ally gaming PC in partnership with Asus
As with the Xbox Series X|S, the ROG Xbox Ally will ship in two models: one aimed for power users (Ally X), and a cheaper model (Ally, shown here) with slightly lower specs. (Xbox Image) After months of rumors, Microsoft officially debuted its ROG Xbox Ally gaming PC on Sunday, made in collaboration with Taiwanese computer company Asus. The ROG Xbox Ally is planned to ship this holiday season with two separate SKUs, with the same scheme and coloration as the Xbox Series X|S console. The white Ally is a lower-powered model aimed at casual players, while the more expensive black Xbox Ally X is billed as the 'ultimate high-performance handheld.' No prices have been announced. Both models of Xbox Ally are custom-made versions of Asus' ROG Ally handheld unit, with exclusive features such as a dedicated Xbox guide button. They're designed to support local native downloads, remote play by connecting to a local Xbox console, or streaming gameplay through the newly-rebranded Xbox Cloud. According to Microsoft, the Xbox Ally runs an optimized version of Windows 11 Home that integrates features from both Microsoft's Game Bar and Asus' Armoury Crate app. The Windows OS also lets you install games from multiple digital storefronts such as and Steam, or use apps such as Discord. The Xbox Ally is also stated to feature a 'Xbox full screen experience' that aggregates all your games from every available library connected to the device, eliminating the need to hunt through all your various apps to find what you're looking for. Both versions of the Ally are planned to ship with the recently-announced Copilot for Gaming integrated into the Game Bar, billed by Xbox as an AI-powered 'personalized gaming companion.' The Xbox Ally X is also powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, which is designed to 'power the latest AI features as they are introduced.' The Xbox Ally was revealed as part of this year's Xbox Showcase, a 90-minute presentation held as part of the annual Summer Games Fest in Los Angeles. While past Showcases have been broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater, this year's was pre-recorded, with segments hosted by Microsoft's Sarah Bond, Matt Booty, and Phil Spencer. Bond made a point of noting during the Showcase that every game that was shown this year will ship day-and-date on both Xbox Game Pass and will be compatible at launch with the Xbox Ally. One big surprise about the Xbox Ally, mentioned almost in passing during the Showcase, is that the long-awaited indie platformer Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently scheduled as a 'launch title' for the Ally. This is the first mention of Silksong anywhere during Summer Games Fest, which is a shock, as 'where's Silksong?' has been a running joke during every major gaming show for the last couple of years. In a slightly lower-key detail, this was the first Xbox Showcase held after Microsoft's recent move into cross-platform publishing. While no specific announcements were made on the topic, every game that's also headed to competing storefront like the PlayStation 5 or Steam was labeled as such during the Showcase. That was not the case before today. Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 lets you fight or potentially join the minions of 'Auntie's Choice,' the company that's bleeding the system of Arcadia dry. At Fate's End already looks like the must-play indie game of 2026
Coming off its smash indie hit Spiritfarer , Thunder Lotus Games is taking a more action-heavy approach with its next title. The developer debuted At Fate's End with an announcement trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025, giving us a taste of its captivating visuals and unique combat system. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. While Spiritfarer offered a more slow-paced experience filled with charming characters looking for a final peace, At Fate's End has a contrasting action-packed style where you follow the story of Shan, a heiress to a clan that's looking to resolve familial disputes by either fighting or talking it out. The gameplay looks equal parts narrative fantasy and intriguing combat style, since you can use tactical dialogue mid-fight or psychological insight about your family to turn the tide of battle. As you progress through the story, you'll face more of your estranged family members, and you advance your skill tree in different ways depending on whether you defeat or reconcile with them. Thunder Lotus Games hasn't set a hard release date yet, but At Fate's End is expected to release sometime in 2026. The upcoming title will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, Steam and Epic Games.
