Loeb's Third Point builds stake in Band-Aid maker Kenvue

Billionaire investor Daniel Loeb's hedge fund
Third Point
is building a stake in
Kenvue
, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday, as some investors are pushing for strategic changes at the
consumer healthcare
company.
News of Third Point's investment in the $44 billion Summit, New Jersey-headquartered maker of Band-Aids and
Tylenol
helped push its share price up more than 2% in late afternoon trading on Friday before giving up some gains to close at $23.01.
Kenvue, spun out of
Johnson & Johnson
two years ago, has faced pressure from
activist investors
for months and avoided a full-blown proxy fight with
Starboard Value
in March when it added the firm's founder and chief executive, Jeffrey Smith, to its board.
Starboard pressed the company to review how it positions its brands and how they are priced in order to boost its performance.
Since reaching its agreement with Starboard, Kenvue has faced pressure from Toms Capital Investment Management, another activist firm that also built a stake and wants the company to consider strategic alternatives including a possible sale of the entire company or portions of it, sources familiar with the firm's engagement said.
It could not be established how large Third Point's investment is or whether the hedge fund has engaged with Kenvue's board or management. A representative for Third Point declined to comment. The Financial Times first reported Third Point's stake in Kenvue on Friday.
Kenvue said it regularly engages with its investors but does not comment on individual investor discussions. The board acts "in the best interests of the company and all Kenvue shareholders and we remain focused on accelerating sustainable, profitable growth and enhancing shareholder value," the company said in a statement.
While Kenvue's brands, including Aveeno, Listerine and Zyrtec, are well-known, net sales were flat at $15.5 billion in 2024. The company's stock price, while up 8% this year, has slid 13.2% since being listed as a publicly traded company in May, 2022.
Third Point pursues a variety of strategies including, from time to time, activism in which it engages with management to push companies including Advance Auto Parts, Walt Disney and Bath & Body Works to perform better.
It oversees roughly $12 billion in assets and returned 25% in 2024, a dramatic increase from a gain of roughly 4% in 2023 and a 22% loss in 2022. Last year, the firm rotated into consumer discretionary, financial and industrial companies that helped fuel returns after a post-election rally.

Agodas Indian employee base to 'grow significantly': CEO Omri Morgenshtern

New Delhi, Jun 13 (PTI) Travel booking platform Agoda CEO Omri Morgenshtern on Friday said India is a key market for the company and expects its Indian nationality employee base to "grow significantly" from 800 at present. Indians comprise the second largest employee base in terms of nationality for the Singapore-headquartered company. With 300 employees stationed within India and the remaining 500 stationed globally. "And I expect it to grow significantly, both on the ground in India and outside," in an interview to PTI, Omri said. Talking about Agoda's expansion plans for India, he shared that India's growth is hard to ignore and it is one of the biggest opportunities, stressing that India is a super important market for the company." Omri termed the London-bound Air India plane crash on Thursday "tragic", underscoring the importance of ensuring safety for passengers, while expressing confidence that "all companies involved put safety above all". Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, operating a flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed soon after the take-off on Thursday afternoon. Out of the 242 people on board the plane, only one person survived. Meanwhile, Aviation watchdog DGCA on Friday ordered enhanced safety inspection of Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet powered by GEnx engines, a day after 241 people onboard died in the plane crash in Ahmedabad. Responding to a question on the impact of the recent Pahalgam terror attack on India's hospitality sector, the Agoda CEO said while May saw a dip in booking numbers, the platform witnessed a "tremendous pickup and recovery" in June.

HC defers Turkish firm Celebi's plea against revocation of security clearances, to await Delhi HC verdict

The Bombay High Court on Friday deferred till July 10, the hearing on the petition filed by subsidiary of Turkey-headquartered airport ground handling services major Celebi, seeking suspension and annulment of the security clearance cancellation by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The HC decided to adjourn the hearing after it was informed that the Delhi HC judgment on the identical challenge was awaited. The BCAS, amid the backlash over Turkey's support for Pakistan in the India-Pakistan conflict, had last month revoked with immediate effect security clearance of the Indian arm of the Celebi citing 'national security'. The revocation led to airports in India where Celebi group operated including Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), terminating their contracts with the group companies, prompting the subsidiaries to approach the courts. The court was informed that seven airports including those in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai have terminated services of the petitioner. The MIAL had terminated the contract of Celebi's subsidiary Celebi Nas Airport Services India, which operated at the Mumbai airport. A bench of Justices Burgess P Colabawalla and Firdosh P Pooniwalla was hearing writ plea by Celebi Nas against revocation of security clearances. The Union of India, BCAS, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the regional office of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) are made respondents in the matter. The bench noted that the issue raised by petitioner was identical to those raised by its sister concern before the Delhi HC and the same was heard and the judgment was reserved, which will be delivered in due course. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing the Central government submitted that the present writ plea be adjourned till the Delhi HC pronounces its verdict. The court noted that senior advocate Chetan Kapadia for the petitioner Turkish firm 'did not seriously oppose Mehta's request as the decision given by Delhi HC would certainly have bearing on present matter.' The HC will hear the plea next on July 10. Meanwhile, a single-judge bench of the Bombay HC of Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan on June 13 extended temporary relief granted to Celebi by vacation court. The vacation bench on May 26 had restrained MIAL from taking a final decision on tenders invited to replace Celebi's subsidiary till the matter is heard by the regular court. Justice Sundaresan was hearing two applications by Celebi Nas Airport Services India, filed under Section 9 of Arbitration and Conciliation Act against Adani group-owned MIAL seeking annulment of its termination of contracts with the petitioner. The vacation bench had directed the MIAL that till regular court hears the matter, a final appointment of replacement operator must not be given an effect. Justice Sundaresan has posted further hearing on arbitration pleas to June 17.
