Tolono could have first African American Village President
TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — The Village of Tolono is waiting to see the final election results, and one community member could be making history.
Village Trustee Terrence Stuber could become the first African American Village President in Tolono. He said it'd be an honor to go down in history but that isn't his goal. Stuber wants to be remembered for creating a welcoming community, building economic success and more.
Champaign Police increasing patrol to combat distracted drivers
'I recognize the impact that that can have, especially on people who look like us,' Stuber said. 'They can't just see a dark-skinned man and say, 'I want to be that.' The skin color is not what matters. Do you have the heart to serve people?'
Stuber currently has a 5% lead over his opponent Gary Mitchell. Even though he's ahead, Stuber is still being cautious until the final results come in. If elected, he wants to focus on creating more infrastructure and adding streetlights around town.
WCIA reached out to Mitchell, who said he's already called Stuber and congratulated him on his victory.

The governor told Politico 'it's in recognition that I am the only Black governor in the country, and only the third African American ever elected governor in the history of the United States' when asked why he has chosen these states for travel. 'But also, I think it's a recognition of the work that we've done,' Moore added.

Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette to attend 250th Anniversary of the US Army Grand Military Parade
WASHINGTON (WCBD) – Preparations are underway in the nation's capital for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army's grand military parade. The parade will be attended by dignitaries from around the country, including South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette. Evette will join more than 9,000 soldiers from across the U.S. as they march through the streets of Washington and display some of the military's equipment. The parade will feature approximately 130 vehicles, including 28 M1A1 tanks, 28 Bradley fighting vehicles, 28 Stryker armored fighting vehicles, and various other vehicles towing artillery launchers. Mobile city councilman in District 2 seeks re-election
MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile District 2 City Councilman William Carroll has announced his re-election campaign to the city council, according to a news release. Trial begins for Mobile County father accused of killing his 14-year-old daughter who went missing in 2012 Carroll hopes to continue representing District 2 like he has for the past four years. Since rejoining the council in 2021, he's focused on infrastructure projects, advocated for affordable housing and pushed for stronger community investments. 'My work has always been about putting the needs of our residents first listening, responding, and delivering real solutions,' Carroll said. 'We've made important progress, but there's more to do, and I'm ready to keep moving District 2 forward.' While serving District 2, Carroll has led many initiatives to build Mobile's community. Infrastructure has steadily upgraded, with recent road and sidewalk resurfacing on North Scott Street, Maryland Street, and Jefferson Street. Public parks have had changes as well. James Seals Park, Texas Street Park, and Crawford Murphy Park have received new sidewalks, pickleball and tennis courts, sitting areas, and new playground equipment, the release said. If re-elected, Carroll plans to focus on affordable housing, public safety, modern infrastructure, and attracting businesses.
