4415 Indians evacuated from conflict zones in Iran, Israel via 19 special flights: MEA
New Delhi: The Indian government has initiated Operation Sindhu to evacuate Indian nationals from conflict zones in Iran and Israel amid escalating tensions in West Asia. The operation, which began on June 18, has successfully evacuated over 4415 Indian nationals so far.
"A total of 4415 Indian nationals (3597 from Iran and 818 from Israel) have been evacuated so far using 19 special evacuation flights, including 3 IAF C-17 aircraft. 14 OCI card-holders, 9 Nepali nationals, 4 Sri Lankan nationals and 1 Iranian spouse of an Indian national were also evacuated from Iran," the Ministry of External Affairs said.
"The evacuated Indian nationals included more than 1500 women and 500 children," it added.
According to MEA, on 17-18 June, Indian Missions in Tehran, Yerevan, and Ashgabat coordinated the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran through land border crossings to Armenia and Turkmenistan. Special evacuation flights commenced on 18 June and facilitated the return of Indian nationals to New Delhi.
The majority of evacuations were carried out through Mashhad, following Iran's opening of its airspace for evacuation flights under Operation Sindhu on June 20 at India's request.
"We thank the Government of Iran for this gesture. A total of 3597 Indian nationals -- including students, workers, professionals, pilgrims and fishermen - from more than 15 Indian states - were brought back to India from Yerevan, Ashgabat and Mashhad from June 18 to 26using 15 special evacuation flights," as per MEA.
The Israel leg of Operation Sindhu commenced on June 23. Indian Missions in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Amman and Cairo facilitated the movement of Indian nationals across land borders to Jordan and Egypt.
A total of 818 Indian nationals were evacuated, including students, workers and professionals. They were evacuated from Amman and Sharm al Sheikh from June 22 to 25 using four evacuation flights including 3 IAF C-17 aircraft.
MEA noted that, "in view of the reopening of the airspace, evacuation operations were halted on June 25. Further actions will be taken based on the evolving situation in West Asia."
The Government of India is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad. Under PM Narendra Modi's guidance, Operation Sindhu is another demonstration of this commitment, said the MEA.

Missile launched by Houthis at Israel 'apparently successfully' intercepted, says IDF; no injuries reported
Tel Aviv: A ballistic missile launched at Israel by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen was likely intercepted by air defenses on Saturday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said, according to The Times of Israel. The IDF noted that attempts were made to shoot down the missile and they were "apparently successful," with no reports of injuries or impacts. Sirens were sounded in Beersheba, Dimona, Arad, and surrounding areas in southern Israel. Residents received an early warning alert via push notification on their phones four minutes before the sirens began, warning of a long-range missile attack. The Houthis later claimed responsibility for the launch, stating they had targeted a "sensitive Israeli enemy target" in Beersheba. "The operation successfully achieved its goal, thanks be to Allah," the group said in a statement. The Times of Israel reported that the Houthis have continued attacks against Israel and maritime targets since November 2023, following the October 7 Hamas-led massacre. The Houthis had paused their fire after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in January 2025. By that point, over 40 ballistic missiles, as well as numerous attack drones and cruise missiles, had been launched by the group at Israel. One of those missiles killed a civilian and wounded several in Tel Aviv in July, prompting Israel's first strike in Yemen, The Times of Israel reported. According to the outlet, since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have fired 52 ballistic missiles and at least 13 drones at Israel. While some missiles have fallen short, the Houthis remain the primary actor still regularly attacking Israel. Iran conducted a 12-day missile campaign earlier this month, and Hezbollah's rocket fire from Lebanon had ceased following a November ceasefire. In parallel with these ongoing regional threats, the IDF issued tonight an evacuation warning to civilians in the central Gaza Strip. IDF Arabic spokesman Avichai Adraee's warning reads as follows: "To all Gaza Strip residents in Nuseirat, Al-Zahraa and Al-Mughraqa in the northern coast neighborhoods, Al-Nuzha, Al-Badi, Al-Busma, Al-Zahraa, Al-Bustaneim, Badr, Abu Huraira, Al-Ruda and Al-Safa: The IDF is operating with tremendous force to destroy the capabilities of terrorist organizations in these areas and will attack any area used to launch rockets." "Iran has to get back into world order flow...": US President Trump
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Friday reiterated how the nuclear sites in Iran were "obliterated" and said that Iran has to come back to the world order flow or else things could get worse for the country. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Why would the so-called 'Supreme Leader,' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war-torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie? It is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie. His Country was decimated, his three evil Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED, and I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life." "I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, "THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!" In fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that Israel bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout! Tremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far," he added. Trump further claimed that he had convinced Israel to bring back its large pool of fighter jets, which were heading toward Tehran. Iran has to get back into the World Order flow, or things will only get worse for them," he said. Earlier on Friday (US local time), while holding a press briefing, the US President had restated his stance on the destruction of the nuclear sites in Iran and praised the military prowess of the United States in targeting the sites. Trump had remarked, "So Iran wants to meet. As you know, their sites were obliterated. They're very evil nuclear had some fake news for a little while. The same people that covered the Hunter Biden laptop was from came up with something that delayed the credit that our great pilots- what talent that was, and they (pilots) hit it right down in the spot- fifty-two thousand feet. Think of this- dark, no moon. You couldn't see a thing, and they hit the refrigerator door, as they say. That's the size of a target... We're the only ones that could have done it. And we took out the two of the other sites also. In addition to that, we finished them off." Trump added in his remarks, "That was a very evil intention. I believe that, and again, time will tell, but I don't believe that they're (Iran) going to go back into nuclear anytime soon. They spent over a trillion dollars on nuclear, and they never got it together." He noted that nothing was moved away from the nuclear sites. "It's very heavy material. Those cars were most likely the cars of masons because they were pouring concrete at the top of the hatch, going into the nuclear site. They wanted to reinforce it, and they had some masons there pouring concrete. By the way, that concrete was obliterated. It hit exactly at the concrete. It was, I don't think it had a chance to dry, but everything's down there. It's under millions of tons of rock."
