2025 WHL Championship Series Game 2 Preview
The 2025 WHL Championship Series continues on Sunday with a heavily anticipated Game 2. After a 4-1 victory in Game 1, the Medicine Hat Tigers will be looking to extend their series lead to 2-0, while the Spokane Chiefs will have their eyes on leaving Medicine Hat with a split. If Game 1 was any indication, there should be plenty of highlight reel moments when the teams hit the ice for Game 2.

Blue Jays' George Springer called out in embarrassing fashion against Athletics

The Toronto Blue Jay' George Springer reacts after being called out at third base against the Athletics during the fifth inning at Rogers Centre on June 1. George Springer played a vital role in the Toronto Blue Jays' 8-4 win over the Athletics on Sunday. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run in the victory. However, he might have also made the most embarrassing out of his career. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blue Jays were down 3-0. After Myles Straw singled to start the inning, the A's got two quick outs, putting the Blue Jays on their heels. Luckily for the Canadians, their next hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., was hit by a pitch, pushing Straw into scoring position, who would promptly be driven in by Springer on a single to left. The offense continued with Alejandro Kirk, who doubled, driving in Guerrero and pushing Springer to third. Advertisement Sure, there were two outs, but the Blue Jays were only down a run now with two men in scoring position. Surely, another hit would lift Toronto over the Athletics, right? Well, the Blue Jays never got that chance. No. After the double put Springer at third base, the former World Series champion decided that it was a great time for calisthenics, as he jumped up and down on the bag, allowing Athletics third baseman Max Schuemann to tag him out mid-leap. Springer was originally called safe, but video review was clear as day. The ball was on Springer and Springer was not on the bag. Toronto's rally was dead in the water. Advertisement EXCLUSIVE: How ex-MLB player Eric Anthony learned his dad was Dodgers legend Willie Davis How did Springer do the rest of the game? Springer only had two more plate appearances in the game, both of which came in the Blue Jays' six-run eighth inning. In a sense, Springer was the reason that inning got going. He led off the eighth by reaching base via catcher interference and scored soon after on an Addison Barger home run. He did also ground out to end the inning though. Springer ended the game going 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Who won the series? Toronto's 8-4 win gave them the four-game series sweep against the Athletics, pushing their record to 31-28. The Blue Jays currently sit in second place in the AL East behind the first-place New York Yankees. At the bottom of the post, let us know if we got it right by voting for your choice. Nominee: Aleksandr Maslov def. Yuriy Fedorov at ACA 186 After facing some early adversity in their heavyweight bout, Alexandr Maslov got the last laugh against Yuriy Fedorov. Advertisement In a heated exchange early in the second round, Maslov (12-1) threw a multi-punch combination at Fedorov (10-7), one of which was a right hook that landed clean to the chin and immediately send him folded to the canvas unconscious. Nominee: Connor Hughes def. Sebastien Di Franco at 2025 PFL Europe 1 The devastating knockout power of Connor Hughes was felt by Sebastien Di Franco when the pair met in a lightweight showdown. At roughly the midway point of the fight, Hughes (11-2) took advantage of poor movement from Di Franco (10-4) with a clean punch that instantly knocked him out. No follow-up shots were needed with Di Franco's lifeless body falling and smacking his head off the canvas. Nominee: Mike Malott def. Charles Radtke at UFC 315 Mike Malott gave the Canadian crowd plenty to cheer about – especially after Charles Radtke talked trash on the country prior to their welterweight bout. Advertisement A "Proper" left hook from Malott (12-2-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) spelled the beginning of the end for Radtke (10-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC). Malott found the chin early in Round 2 with the cracking shot, leading to the finish seconds later after hard, accurate follow-up punches. Nominee: Jared Gordon def. Thiago Moises at UFC Fight Night 256 Jared Gordon scored the biggest highlight reel win of his octagon tenure so far when he knocked Thiago Moises out cold. After getting a takedown early in the lightweight bout, the action returned to its feet where Gordon (21-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) landed a brutal right hand that floored Moises (19-9 MMA, 8-7 UFC). He followed up with a few shots on the ground to seal the deal. Nominee: Dustin Jacoby def. Bruno Lopes at UFC on ESPN 68 Dustin Jacoby prioritized violence over technique, and it paid off against Bruno Lopes. Advertisement Jacoby (21-9-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) knocked out Bruno Lopes (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) with a swarming attack for a stoppage just minutes into the opening round of the light heavyweight bout. The winner: Marc-Andre Barriault def. Bruno Silva at UFC 315 Marc-Andre Barriault finished Bruno Silva in scary fashion at UFC 315. Barriault (17-9 MMA, 6-8 UFC) unleashed an array of elbows in the clinch to knock out Silva (23-13 MMA, 4-7 UFC) at the 1:27 mark of Round 1 in their middleweight bout. Silva was rendered unconscious after being finished by an emotional Barriault and had to be stretchered out. With the win, Canada's Barriault snapped a three-fight losing skid. Meanwhile, Silva has now lost five in a row, and seven of his past eight fights. Cast Your Vote! Oilers React to NHL's Major Connor McDavid Announcement

Oilers React to NHL's Major Connor McDavid Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are heading back to the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year after a 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 5 on Thursday night. Advertisement McDavid has been on a mission ever since the Oilers fell to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of last year's Stanley Cup Final. In these playoffs, he's racked up six goals, 20 assists, and 26 points through 16 games. On Thursday night, in that 16th game, the three-time Hart Trophy winner found teammate Corey Perry for the opening goal in the first period. That assist marked the 100th of McDavid's playoff career, and the NHL announced shortly after that only one player in history had reached the milestone faster. Wayne Gretzky did it in just 70 games, while McDavid reached it in 90. "That's 100 assists for Connor McDavid in the #StanleyCup Playoffs!" the NHL wrote. "Of the 25 other players in NHL history to hit the milestone, only Wayne Gretzky (70 GP) has done so in fewer games." Advertisement The Oilers' social media team reacted to the announcement with no words but rather a simple repost. The Edmonton Oilers reposted the NHL's announcement.@NHLPR/X McDavid joined Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov and Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as the only active players to record 100 postseason assists. This is just another accomplishment that puts McDavid in the same conversation as Wayne Gretzky. He previously broke "The Great One's" single-postseason assist record, recorded the most power-play points with one franchise, and became the first to post 20 or more points in four straight playoff seasons. Advertisement Now, McDavid and the Oilers will get a crack at the Panthers once again in a Stanley Cup Final rematch. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
