Iran could strike American military bases
Iran could target US military bases in the Middle East as part of its retaliation after being attacked by Israel, Fars news agency has reported, citing an informed source.Tehran's ambassador to the UN Amir Iravani has said that Washington's support for Israel has made it complicit in the IDF strikes that killed 78 people and injured 320 others in Iran on Friday.
A source with access to Iran's military leadership has told Fars that 'in the coming days,' Tehran's retaliation 'will spread to all areas occupied by this [Israeli] regime and related US bases in the region.'
'This confrontation will not end with last night's limited action. Iran's strikes will continue and… will be very painful and regrettable for the aggressors,' the agency's interlocutor claimed.
Israel and the US will pay the price for being the 'main pillars of terrorism in the region,' the source said.
Israel has claimed that it targeted Iranian uranium enrichment sites in the airstrikes as well as several senior military commanders and scientists as a preemptive measure aimed at stopping Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Iran, which has repeatedly denied pursuing a military nuclear program, responded on Friday by launching multiple volleys of ballistic missiles into Israel, killing at least three people and injuring over 150, according to the Jerusalem Post.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted in a statement later on Friday that the attack on Iran was a 'unilateral action' by Israel.
'We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel,' he stressed.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, the US operates military sites across at least 19 locations in the Middle East, including eight permanent bases in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The think tank estimates that there are currently between 40,000 to 50,000 US troops in the region.

Iran to roll back cooperation with UN nuclear watchdog
Iran will limit its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over what it calls the agency's 'silence' on Israeli strikes, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said. Israeli jets bombed nuclear and military facilities in Iran on Friday morning in what West Jerusalem described as an operation to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran, which denies having a military nuclear program, responded with its own strikes in Israel. Tehran also suspended nuclear negotiations with the US, with the next round originally scheduled for Sunday. 'We have decided that, from now on, we will no longer announce the details of our nuclear activities to the Agency in advance. This is part of a review of the level of our cooperation, which will no longer be the same as before,' Gharibabadi told SNN on Saturday. 'We have always maintained the most transparent peaceful nuclear program, but when the Agency and its Board of Governors remain silent in the face of Israeli aggression or issue resolutions influenced by political pressure, we can no longer maintain the same level of cooperation,' he added. Without directly blaming Israel, the IAEA released a statement on Friday stressing that attacks on civilian nuclear sites are illegal under international law and called for dialogue. The international watchdog previously reported finding uranium traces at locations Iran had not declared as nuclear sites and, on Thursday, formally accused Iran of breaching its non-proliferation obligations. Tehran rejected the allegations as politically motivated.

Putin wished me a happy birthday — Trump
US President Donald Trump revealed his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, wished him a happy birthday during a phone conversation on Saturday. Shortly after the phone call, the US leader took to his Truth Social to spill some details on the talks. 'President Putin called this morning to very nicely wish me a Happy Birthday, but to more importantly, talk about Iran, a country he knows very well. We talked at length,' Trump, who turns 79 on Saturday, wrote. The two presidents spent 'much less time' discussing the Ukraine conflict, he noted, adding that the topic 'will be for next week.' 'The call lasted approximately 1 hour. He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end,' Trump wrote. According to the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the conversation between Putin and Trump was 'meaningful, frank, and most importantly, very useful.' The Russian leader condemned Israel's strikes on Iran, noting that they occurred just before the sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, originally scheduled for June 15, he noted. 'Despite such a complicated situation, the Russian and American presidents didn't rule out a return to the negotiating track on the Iranian nuclear program,' Ushakov added. The presidential aide also confirmed that Putin extended birthday wishes to Trump, noting that both leaders have 'expressed their satisfaction with the personal relationships that allow [them] to communicate in a businesslike manner,' as well as to 'seek solutions to pressing issues on the bilateral and international agenda, no matter how complex these issues may be.'
