McGoldrick contract offer confirmed by Notts County
Prolific veteran striker David McGoldrick has been offered a new deal to remain at Notts County beyond the summer.The 37-year-old was said to be in head coach Stuart Maynard's "plans for next season", but the tabling of a contract offer has now been confirmed.In March, McGoldrick told BBC Radio Nottingham that he hoped his performances would earn him another deal at Meadow Lane.He was Notts' second highest scorer with 17 goals as the Magpies finished sixth in the table, taking his tally to 30 goals in 76 appearances since he returned to his boyhood club for a third spell in the summer of 2023.Injury meant the former Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Derby County forward missed their season-ending play-off semi-final second-leg defeat by AFC Wimbledon on Saturday."He is incredible, we want him to be at the club," Maynard said of McGoldrick after Saturday's loss at Plough Lane.
McGoldrick is the only out-of-contract Notts player to be offered a new deal after the side missed out on promotion from League Two.Midfielder Sam Austin, who featured 28 times in the 2024-25 season, is among a quartet of the Magpies' promotion-winning National League side who have been let go.Former captain Kyle Cameron and Adam Chicksen - two players that spent much of the past season out on loan - as well as goalkeeper Sam Slocombe were all part of the side that returned Notts to the English Football League two years ago."While it's sad to be saying farewell to four players who were such important figures in our 2022-23 promotion season, they leave us with many fantastic memories," the club said in a statement on its website, external.Attacking midfielder Charlie Whitaker, goalkeeper Tyler Miller and defender Robbie Cundy have also been released.

Academy boss Elias - who developed Bale and Alexander-Arnold
Malcolm Elias, the man responsible for developing Gareth Bale and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has died after a short Fulham's head of academy recruitment, joined the Premier League club from Liverpool in 2009, having previously worked at Southampton. In a statement, Fulham said: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and dear friend, Malcolm Elias, after a short illness."The club's head of academy recruitment, Malcolm had a fantastic reputation in football for unearthing and nurturing young talent."The influence that Malcolm had on the modern game cannot be understated, having worked with and developed the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Luke Harris and Jay Stansfield, to name but a few."Welshman Elias was born in 1953 and was key in the development of his compatriot Bale at the Southampton went on to win 111 Wales caps and enjoyed a successful club career with Saints, Tottenham and Real Madrid, where he won five Champions League titles. England's Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, won eight major trophies with boyhood club Liverpool before joining Real Madrid earlier this month."We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Malcolm Elias, one of the influential figures in the club's youth development history," Southampton said.

Isle of Man TT Senior race delayed by rain

Friday's racing saw Yorkshire's Dean Harrison secure the double in the Superstock class, and Manx brothers Ryan and Callum Crowe achieve the same feat in the Sidecar Northern Ireland's Michael Dunlop made it two out of two in the Supertwin class, securing his fourth win of the week and extending his record-breaking tally of TT wins to 33.
