"One of the best": Ukrainian drone operator Kateryna "Meow" Troian killed in action
Kateryna "Meow" Troian, a first-person view drone operator with the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade, has been killed in action on the Pokrovsk front in Donetsk Oblast. Source: Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Details: Kateryna joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces less than two years ago and carried out missions in the operational zone in Russia's Kursk Oblast and in Ukraine's Donetsk Oblast. During her service, Meow completed over a thousand successful drone sorties. Kondratiuk said that she and Ambassador Valerii Zaluzhnyi had shared Kateryna's story with members of the UK Parliament just a week earlier, during the opening of the photo exhibition Women Defending Ukraine. Kateryna was killed on the Pokrovsk front at the age of 32. Her brother-in-arms, Sashko Shershun, expressed his condolences and shared memories of her. Quote from Saskho: "There are fewer and fewer truly great people... We never saw you give up. You were never afraid to ask questions and you were always ready to learn, teach and help. You endured guided bomb attacks, artillery and mortar barrages and enemy FPV drone strikes with us. You were one of the best in your element." More details: Another comrade, Valentyn Dembitskyi, called Kateryna "both a brave person and a skilled warrior" with whom he had withstood numerous Russian attacks and completed many complex missions. "Meow came to war to become a true expert," he said. "We will remember her as a teammate who genuinely cared – the most important quality. "She came to war as an equal," he added. "We knew her as a person with an open heart and no arrogance. She was always ready to help and never hesitated to ask for help herself." Kateryna's friends have launched a fundraiser to support her family. Background: Earlier, paramedic Mariia-Khrystyna "Alpaca" Dvoinyk was also killed in action defending Ukraine. She was fatally injured while on her way to evacuate a wounded soldier. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Zelenskyy: Over 40 injured in Kharkiv, these are not "retaliatory" strikes
One woman was killed and more than 40 were injured in a Russian attack on Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs on Saturday 7 June. Source: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram and in the evening address Quote: "As of now, more than 40 people were reportedly injured and one killed in Kharkiv as a result of a Russian guided aerial bomb attack. Another brutal murder. Aerial bombs on civilians in the city – even near a children's railway. This makes no strategic sense. It is pure terrorism. And it has been going on for more than three years of full-scale war. This cannot be ignored. We cannot turn a blind eye to it. And this is not a game. Every day we lose our people only because Russia feels it has impunity. We need to force Russia to make peace." Updated: In his evening address, Zelenskyy said that "no matter what anyone says, these are not 'retaliatory' Russian strikes, but strikes aimed at destruction, the complete destruction of life." Zelenskyy stressed that no form of pressure on Russia should be weakened – neither the measures that have already been applied nor the methods of pressure that are being prepared. "We are working to increase Ukrainian air defence. We need positive signals from the US, specific signals on air defence. We are still waiting for a response to the offer to buy systems that can help," he said. Background: At around 17:35, Russia attacked the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi districts of Kharkiv with four guided aerial bombs. A 30-year-old employee of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) was killed and at least 18 other people were injured. Four of the victims are employees of Ukrzaliznytsia. The attack damaged two buildings of a children's railway and four railway carriages, as well as houses and an outbuilding. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Ukraine rejects claims of delaying exchange of soldiers' bodies, calls out Russian disinformation
Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has refuted Russian claims that Ukraine postponed a planned prisoner exchange and body repatriation, stating that a Russian propaganda video showing refrigerated units with bodies was filmed in Russia, not at the designated exchange site. Source: Andrii Yusov, Deputy Head of Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda Quote: "The video released by the enemy was filmed today in Russia, not at the exchange site. The video is overtly propagandistic and part of a deliberate disinformation campaign and PsyOp by Russian special services to discredit Ukraine and pressure the negotiating group ahead of the upcoming exchange and repatriation activities. Screenshot In fact, the timing for repatriation activities was agreed on Tuesday [3 June – ed.] with authorised representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defence and is scheduled to begin next week as planned. What is being presented today is merely another performance by enemy special services. Despite such overt provocations, preparations for the exchange continue, and we expect results in the near future." The Coordination Headquarters previously stated that Ukraine provided lists for the exchange, adhering to categories agreed in Istanbul: seriously wounded, seriously ill and young soldiers exchanged in an all-for-all format. However, Russia submitted lists that did not comply with these agreements. Ukraine has provided feedback and awaits Russia's next steps. Background: On 7 June 2025, Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian negotiating group in Istanbul, claimed Ukraine had indefinitely postponed the prisoner exchange and body repatriation. He stated that 1,212 bodies had been delivered to the exchange site in refrigerated units and that a list of 640 Ukrainian prisoners of war, meeting the agreed categories, had been submitted. Russia accused Ukraine of unexpectedly delaying the exchange, alleging the Ukrainian delegation failed to arrive at the designated location. On 6 June 2025, Russia claimed that repatriation efforts had begun, later asserting that "Ukraine refused to retrieve the bodies of its citizens". Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War emphasised that Russia is manipulating a sensitive issue, adding that preparations for the exchange are ongoing.
